I have a 1969 Mach1. Had a top loader 4 speed when I bought it. I’m 77 and my wife is 66 and neither one of us want to drive stick any more so I had an aod from Monster Transmission installed. Miss the 4 speed sometimes but love the aod!

I put an AOD trans in my 66 mustang, wish I would have test fit because I now have rubbing issues on the tunnel. Only happens at stop lights and makes a loud squeaking sound so it’s super awesome. I bought a kit for mine that had cross member and TV cable, etc. good video guys!

Yup, you need about 4 feet of extensions, a wobble-joint and short socket to do those two top bolts. Nice however to be working back behind the transmission to do those two bolts.

I'm doing a 302/AOD in my 63 Meteor. The trans clearance up top is tight. I've heard of drilling holes and bolting thru the firewall. I may try a combo of the air chisel and grinding some thickness off of the bellhousing bolt area. The crossmember goes rearward and down by 1 1/2 inch. The shifter linkage from the column will work.

Drop the motor down a bit to install the bolts. I feel your pain. I did the 351 Cleveland and FMX trans in a 66 Mustang that started life as a 6 cyl. 9" rear end and a set of 67 Cougar front disks. Had to pull the motor to replace the center 4 plugs. Sold it in 85 on my way to Korea in Virginia. Following on the project.

@tombryant11045 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was going to kick the door in yelping something was rotten in SC but guess what?? I just looked at my '69 fairlane 302/C4 and there is barely enough room between top bell bolts and and firewall to insert tip of my finger(and none for middle). I can see why the sheet metal massage is necessary. Odd thing is there is probably 2/3 more space with a FE big block install. Difference is that top of bell is approx one inch lower, thus bolts are located just inside tunnel slope. If small block bolts were in same location, 4R70W install would be easy peasy.

@sixt9stang5 жыл бұрын
@@hotrodray6802 Thanks. I am aware of needing the correct balance. I didn't know about the '89 351W flexplate though. That is very good to know. I mostly wanted to bring this to their attention so that they could put it in a video for everyone to see.

Frankly we were shocked too. With the crossmember in (airing 1.30.20) it settles out nice. Good clearance. That lift...I wish I'd had that five years ago. The Wildfire is the best investment we made for the show.

It's a Monster transmission. It was installed 3 years ago. That means it was replaced about 2.5 years ago.

This is a great video & look forward to the next. While a little different, the process, steps, etc. I think, will be similar to any trans swap. I would like to install a 5 speed (T5?) on my 1966 Ford F100, with a 300 CI engine, and a 3 speed, on the column, transmission. Thank you.

🔔😎I'm trying to grasp why if a 302 C4 fits in that the bellhousing bolts won't clear now. Is the bh boss that much thicker?
@hotrodray68025 жыл бұрын
FYI it fits perfect in the full frame 72 + Torino chassis. They came with 429 C6s. The 347 AOD I did was a drop in. Even the original column shifter. Just made a bracket and used a Lokar trans lever. 👍😎

Ford changed the bellhousing in 1966 to a six bolt bellhousing. Then they changed the imbalance on the flywheel in 1983.

Watching this series with great interest. I'm planning an Explorer/Mountaineer 5.0/4r70w swap into my 66 Falcon wagon. Couple of questions: 1. How much massaging did you end up doing on the trans tunnel - area and depth? 2. Was it across the entire front opening, or just on the sides? 3. The ear you cut off, what was it's original purpose? Did you do this to get past the headers, or tunnel. I was very surprised, as others have mentioned, that it didn't just slip right in. Thanks for doing this. And, your videos keep getting better. The new music is great, too.
@AutoRestoMod5 жыл бұрын
'66 is a cool year for the Falcon wagon, probably the cleanest of those bodies We only had to dimple where the bolt ears are. Enough to clear the bolts so we could install them from underneath. We are going to go over some alternative methods in the final install episode. The ear probably would have been OK, but it was so close on going in I decided to hack it off to make it that little bit less of a hassle. It is a mounting flange for either assembly of the transmission or install in the chassis. It's funny, we thought all along it was going to be a bug bear.
@huckmosby5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Can't wait for the next episode. This is info I haven't found anywhere else do to the rarity of our vehicles.
@huckmosby5 жыл бұрын
Oh, if you where installing the engine and trans as a single until, would you still have to dimple the tunnel? I realize that you would have to pull the engine to remove the trans in the future if this is possible. Just wondering. Thanks, again.
