How many miles before it went bad and how did you know with and the engine noise ?

there's a transparent hose coming out the case down there where the water pump is. this hose should be dry. if it contains coolant the rotary seel (first seal) is bad, if it contains oil, the oil seal is bad. worst case the shaft is messed up, then you have to tear the engine apart. always replace both seals, rotary and oil seal.

,They shouldn't be letting go at all, cheap gasket sets, like on my Spyder, do good engineering, and ruin it to save a few miserable bucks per unit, it's the BRP way!!
