I remember watching this video a long time ago . I'd like to say thank you for making it because I knew eventually we would have to change one. My son did follow your video perfectly and he was very proud of himself for doing it we both like to say thank you.

At 1:47 drilling holes puts you at extreme risk of marring the metal where it mates with the black oil seal by drilling right into the edge of the oil seal/metal. It is better to file a large flathead screwdriver into a sharper edge and stick to tapping away with a hammer if you aren't getting it to bite the edge of the seal. If it is thin enough to bite into the edge of the seal, it will give with some taps. Any damage caused there is not as bad as what could easily happen if you drill. Besides, the proper way to do this is to remove the crankcase cover and press it from behind. Obviously a lot of us prefer this shortcut including myself esp for my own engine. BTW thanks for posting this because as of now there are still only about 2 videos on this job with this kind of engine!

Great video guys! Took quite a bit of time to get it all out without damaging the housing or shaft! A baby chisel would have been the answer but had a small screwdriver that worked! Thanks again! To anyone doing this be patient and watch the video a couple times and it'll work!

I followed your video and still had the leak. What I found is that I needed to seat the inner ring of the new part connected to the spring. Just flipping the socket around and tapping didn't do it. I needed to use a few washers and a M8x1.25 nut to seat the new part correctly. Other then that additional step your video was very helpful.
@FrankiesChannel8 жыл бұрын
Yes that was the tricky part. Knowing how much to tap the center. First time I did it I just got lucky and pushed it in far enough that it didn't leak. Second time I didn't tap it far enough and it leaked. But was easy enough to remove the cover and tap it a little further. I guess this is the way we learn. Thanks for commenting and glad it worked out for you.
@RodgerDean8 жыл бұрын
If you can add a text comment over the end of the video like "not showed: use 8Mx1.25 nut and washer to seat inner spring ring flush." Don't want the next guy to deal with DIY ignorance like I did. I messed with it for several weekends and lost two outings. Still saved a ton of money though. thanks

Shop manual also has the washer and nut instruction in it and the press tool. Very helpful video though for those of us not near a dealer to get the press tool.

Wish I read this comment first. Watched video, followed video to a T. Old one came out quite easy; new one went in straight and seemed to be flush and seated. Added coolant and started unit and it's almost as if the coolant drains straight out the weep tube. I will remove cover/impeller tomorrow and try putting the nut/washers on to seat further. Hopefully I didn't ruin seal by tapping in center spring portion. Excellent video though, thanks.

If the weep hole leaks oil to the outside can you block the outside. Because it's not practical to remove the motor to drill and tap the weep hole

Nice video! BRP hasn't solved this yet. I have a brand new 2017 Rene 1000 XMR, leaking coolant and oil. Haven't even reached the first service yet. I don't really want the punks at the stealership to do the job. Planning to do it myself.
@FrankiesChannel7 жыл бұрын
Wow surprised it happened on a 2017. I've done over a dozen of these seals and all of them have been 2007s. As much as I hate taking it to the dealer. I would let them do it just in case there is something else wrong. But if you are planning on doing it yourself. It's not a hard job. Just a little time consuming. Hardest part is taking the old one out. Good luck and thanks for stopping in.

@FrankiesChannel10 жыл бұрын
You will have to get the seals from BRP. Not expensive. Water pump rotary seal is part #420650370 $26. Optional seals if you would like to change since it's all open are the oil seal #420650310 $13 and Gasket #420651190 $8

Is this why the coolant leaks out of the weep hole because the seal is shot?

If these two seals are bad will it cause coolant to get into your engine oil and oil into your coolant/radiator?

@mikeparkhill64489 жыл бұрын
hey just brought my 650 outlander to the dealer in town they say the water pump is sealing but the shaft has excessive play they wanna split the hole motor for a grand. Do you think this can be my problem. the bike looses coolent then i overheat
@FrankiesChannel9 жыл бұрын
I don't understand if they say its sealing but you loose coolant. So it's not sealing. I would just change the oil and coolant seal first and see how it goes. If the problem persists then split the engine to replace complete shaft.
@jasonbenoit47045 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your video on the water pump seal / oil seal replacement! Great video, easy to follow.I have one question though, did you do this seal change because the coolant was leaking into the oil? That is my issue at the moment and I wonder if this could solve it...Thanks , keep the videos coming.
@FrankiesChannel5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jason. We changed the seal because it was leaking through weep hole. In your case this might help but really hard to say. 1st thing that comes to mind when hearing about coolant in in oil is head gasket since that's where the greatest pressure is. I guess you need to start somewhere and the water pump oil seal is a fairly easy job to do. So if it was me, I would probably start there. Good luck and get back to us when you get it figured out. I would be curious to know.

Michael Krause the oil seal behind the main coolant one they removed would be the cause. The one he said not all guys change. If you don’t have oil mixing in then no need to change it.

how did you know this was the problem? my limp home light is coming on my bike and I noticed the fan is running all the time but no fluid leaking?/
@FrankiesChannel8 жыл бұрын
We could see an obvious coolant leak coming out of the weep hole. Doesn't sound like that's your problem. Are you overheating to cause the limp mod to come on? If yes then you mostly like have a dirty radiator. Very common problem on these bikes. Try cleaning the rad with air gun set it around 60 psi and get right in there. Then flush with water and see if that helps. Best way to make sure is to remove rad and clean on bench. You will be surprised to see what you find. Hope this helps. Good luck.

@leesbikelife22315 жыл бұрын
How did you loosen the impeller
@FrankiesChannel5 жыл бұрын
Removing the impeller is the easiest part. Just remove the 8 or 10mm nut. Can't remember what size it is. Then the impeller should pop right off. If it doesn't, might mean it's stuck. Just pull a little harder.
