I have just driven 1400 miles to the Scottish Highlands and back & averaged 51mpg. Pretty impressive I thought especially considering about 900 miles was on motorways. Admittedly when the car is pushed hard the high revving engine is a tad annoying but have got used to it now so would consider this car good value and enjoyable to drive.

I agree with most of your opinions on cars but I think the HRV is a fine looking car. I really do like how it looks. Maybe it’s just approaching middle age but I like it quite a bit more than most Honda designs.

Another great and fair review Tish, I've owned that very same model in that colour since January this year and can honestly say I use it in mixed driving both around town and up and down the motorway and in the real world when you do the sums and work out the Real mpg and not what it shows you on screen as that only shows you the mpg at that time you are using it and NOT overall it has never dipped below 60 mpg, regarding the looks I love it, but guess I'm bound to say that lol, just to let you know that is not the top model there is one above it with a different colour roof and roof bars plus a little extra spec, not that that model is lacking and I think it's the sweet spot in the range. Love you reviews and look forward to the next.

60 mpg is really great. My honda jazz hybrid can do 65 to 70 mpg and around 600 miles per tank.. do you know how many miles per tank Honda hrv can run?
@davidtinning9767
@davidtinning9767 4 ай бұрын
My new (July 24) Advance has done 1700 miles in the first 5 weeks and over that mileage (mixed driving including several 200-300 mile round trips) has averaged 57.8mpg. The tank only takes c £50 to fill up (my previous and excellent Hyundai Tucson N Line took £80+ to fill). Build and paintwork is exemplary, and the engine just needs to be driven differently to a petrol engine as it's, er, different!😅. It cruises superbly on level roads and corners far better than the Tucson. For my needs, in retirement, this car is perfect.

You are the only reviewer who understands that the size of the boot is not everything, but the shape matters! Good, balanced review. I will pick up my HR-V Advance Style in January, coming from a 2014 CR-V Diesel (built in Swindon). I have never driven a car as relaxing as the HR-V. And you can avoid the noise by just not pushing it too hard. By the way, in Germany, the HR-V won the famous red dot design award. I love the looks and will not get tired of them after ten years. Don´t think the Kia Sportage will stand that test of time.

I think it has a bit of a Volvo vibe to it which I like but as you say we’re all different. We’ve had 3 Hondas and the reliability has been great . We’re were two women and a child and now we’re empty nesters of a certain age so reliability is something we value . Currently we’re considering another Jazz or a HRV . We like the Jazz but people do tend to intimidate you on the road in it, hence looking at the HRV. Recently we’ve hired a few SUVs and we like the height and better view of the road but looking at reviews the reliability of most can’t match Honda and familiarity is something you tend to value as you get older. I’m just concerned about the HRV now being made in Mexico rather than Japan or the UK. Does it have that cast iron reliability of other Hondas ? Thanks for the review, it was very helpful.

I had a huge problem with this car during my test drive: in the middle of the car, my knee was leaning against the sharp edge of the silver ledge and my knee really hurt. I saw no other way how to position my leg and prevent this sharp protruding edge from penetrating my knee. No other car has this sharp edge. That is probably the biggest reason I did not buy the car. I would have to wear a knee protector.

I agree with you, it isn't a good looker. But it's the one car that I would consider buying even though I would love to go electric. All the cars I purchased in the past I ran until they fell apart, that is until I got my Honda mk2 CRV at one year old in 2006. I can't wear it out and it still drives today as good as the day I took ownership. This HRV comes at low end full electric money and will probably last two to three time longer than them.

I’ve driven both, and I generally agree. However, the HRV is more substantial and comfortable, and doesn’t have the occasional shudder that passes through the Jazz on certain roads. It rides higher than the Crosstar Jazz too, which is important for some people who find easy access important. I also think the HRV is incredibly handsome, far better looking than any of the competition.

I think Honda missed a trick there with the center of that steering wheel. They could have done what Citroen did years ago and have it stay in place while the wheel moves around it and it would have worked really good. Unlike the Citroen idea which also contained all the steering wheel controls for phone, radio etc on the central steering bose the Honda steering wheel does not.

In Japan, there is an AWD version of the HRV (which is called the Vezel over there). Shame we don’t get it here in Europe. Oh, and the new 2023 HRV (the one shown at 2:39) is actually for North America. In Ozzyland (which is what I call Australia), they have the same HRV as Europe and other markets. However, in Europe and Japan, the crossover which is called the HRV in North America will be called the ZRV, but I’m sure Honda will sell that particular vehicle in Ozzyland. North American specs are made in Mexico, and the European/Japanese specs are made in Japan. It’ll also be made in China for the Chinese market.

Although this would not be on my 'to test drive' list it is an interesting car. The style is ok and inoffensive and being a Honda should be nailed together well and as you mention should be reliable as well. She meant the American one, the Australian one is similar to the British one, but specs vary from country to country around the world. The American one shares a name but nothing more as it’s built on a civic platform and has a two litre engine. For my taste this is one of the handsomest cars out there, bar none. Honda did well here, unlike, in my opinion, with the new Jazz, which has a front like an Iveco truck, which works on the truck but less well on the Jazz.

The Type R and Civic Hybrid are sold out with 2 year waiting lists and they are building a huge new showroom in Brisbane near the airport, I think they're gonna surprise you

Had mine a year, far better economy on motorway driving mid 50’s My son is 6ft tall and we compared the Puma to the Honda before buying the Honda wins hands down. You also failed to show the magic seats for extra storage, so overall quite shabby presentation.

There is lots to cover Simon.... you can't squeeze everything in. Shabby seems harsh but thank you for sharing your experience.

Used to have an Accord 06, manual of course, and I would never have described it as a dull car

It’s an eCVT, meaning it’s a direct drive from the engine, when needed, with no change of gear.

The front is ok but the rest is boring. The silhouette is old fashioned looking.

I'm guessing that wasn't Rush's version of Cinderella Man Trish was playing? I drove my dad's Lexus CT200 recently and when you push on the CVT is a bit yucky but how often and for how long do you actually push on in today's give and take driving. Most of the time on the motorway it was unobtrusive and things have come a long was since then and Honda's CVT is supposed to be the best so I'm guessing it's fine. The motorway mileage is very disappointing especially as out 2010 Civic 1.8 petrol will equal that mileage. I think the car looks good in person especially in the lighter colours. Saw one in a light olive colour and it was quite lush.
