2002 Hungarian Grand Prix, where Schumacher had an insane amount of pace over Barrichello, but was told to stay behind. It is my favourite in this arena because near the end of the race Schumacher started falling behind by a rather large margin out of nowhere, making people think he suddenly had an issue with his car. And then he put the hammer down and proceeded to put in a lap over 2 seconds faster than anyone else in the whole race, showing the kind of pace and result he could have had if he hadn't been held back by team orders.

Im glad "Karma" hit then back and the reason why Vettel/Red Bull won in 2010 was that they had not used teamorders in Brazil to let Webber take the win from Vettel, despite Webber having much better chance for the championship had they done so.... However as the race turned out in Abu Dhabi, had Red Bull used team-orders in Brazil, Webber would have lost the championship to Alonso and Vettel could not have had a chance to win it either....so I was very glad that day that Ferrari lost the championship despite using team orders and Red Bull/Vettel one because they DIDNT use teamorders :D

At that point Red Bull had NO preference which driver would win the champioship….as I remember it, Webber was heavily struggling with the grip of his tyres, even brushing a wall, which why he was pitted so early. Ferrari in return decided to react on that, but forgot that left Vettel in much better position. Anyhow Red Bull had the advantage of going to the final race with BOTH of their drivers in championship fight...usually I hear people saying this is bad thing, cause team-mates eat away points from eachother, but at that time it proved to their advantage.

I would put the (still) highly debated 2008 Belgian Grand Prix. Felipe Massa was definitely the wrong man who was declared the winner of that Grand Prix. Not only was Massa nowhere near battling for the lead outright, but the race should have been about the exciting battle for victory between Hamilton and Raikkonen. Hamilton made a lunge round the outside of Raikkonen, had the door closed and took to the escape road and cut the chicane to avoid a collision. Despite the fact that he let Raikkonen back through, before passing him properly shortly after, Hamilton was given a 25 second penalty which demoted him to third. Many neutral fans cried foul, as Massa was battling Hamilton for the championship, and Ferrari had got away with no penalties for other situations earlier that season, indeed Raikkonen benefitted from going off track at turn one not once but twice in that one Grand Prix

Kimi crashed out though, so it would have been ridiculous had he won, but the penalty for Hamilton that day was harsh. I agree that up until the crash at Blanchimont it was a great drive by Kimi though; him and Hamilton going either side of Rosberg was classic stuff on a slippery track.
@jsphblw6 жыл бұрын
Revolver Ocelot - Kimi crashed so the penalty did not benefit the affected party . If they’d given him a 10 or 15 second penalty, he would have still beat the other 2. If they had given him a 20 second penalty, he would have still finished second. They gave him a 25 second penalty which is actually the same as a stop and go penalty at Spa. He passed Kimi by being close to him, not Massa. Giving him a 25 second penalty goes well beyond the bounds of fairness. Guess it all worked out because without that plenty, we wouldn’t have witnessed the greatest finish to a season.
@jsphblw6 жыл бұрын
ATS599 - Actually, there was no rule back then as to what he was supposed to do other than give back the position. It was clarified afterwards that he needed to wait a corner before attacking. But your point regarding the penalty is fair enough. My only concern is that it was a 25 second penalty instead of 10, 15 or 20 second penalty. Bumping into drivers gets you a 10 second penalty. Against this backdrop, 25 seems extremely excessive.
@MrLolx2u6 жыл бұрын
Also for the Alonso part in the Singapore GP, you forgot to mention that he nearly lost his "win" when Massa could have beaten him to the restart after Piquet Jr's crash but the blunder of the light that caused Massa to launch off the pits before the refueling hose was removed caused him the lead and the whole god damn race.
@reptongeek6 жыл бұрын
I disagree with the inclusion of the Belgium Grand Prix in 1998. Damon did send a message suggesting that he and his teammate should hold station but this was only after he had waited for instructions and didn't receive any. This he points out in his recent book. Furthermore he stated quite clearly in his radio message that any decision was up to Eddie Jordan. Considering that the conditions were so bad there had been eight retirements due to crashes by this point it seemed fair that the hold station order was given and to benefit Damon who had been the fastest driver in the team that weekend up to that point However due to the closeness of Jean Alesi in the Sauber the two Jordan's still had to race each other to the chequered flag driving so quickly that they lapped Trulli on the penultimate lap for a second time. One final point. Whatever Ralf's demeanour on the podium might have said, he did accept the result later and wrote a nice tribute to Damon in Autosport the following year after he retired
@gentj6 жыл бұрын
More than that, it's often forgotten that Ralf was almost 20 seconds behind Damon until a safety car was thrown to mop up the Giancarlo Fisichella/Shinji Nakano accident at the Bus Stop. To say Ralf 'should' have won this race is disingenuous, given that he probably would not have been in a position for team orders otherwise.

It's your choice," Damon Hill's team radio towards the end of the 1998 Belgian Grand Prix "Ralf, you cannot overtake Damon, that's a team order," Eddie Jordan's order for the drivers to hold station to the end

Why is Hill's 98 win on here? Hill outqualified Schumacher by 6 places and Ralf was only anywhere near him because of a safety car eliminating Hill's lead. Very doubtful Ralf would have passed Hill who was way more experienced. Obvious choice to hold position.

No, if someone who is investigated for a crime is not charged, all that means is there was insufficient proof. It doesn't mean they're definitely innocent, and the rest of Alonso's career, and his involvement in a number of other scandals, at other teams, suggests he probably would have known about crashgate. I mean, we're talking about the same bloke who just a year before tried to blackmail his boss by threatening to blow the whistle on the cheating that got the team into a championship contending position, and wound up costing them $100m, all because he couldn't handle being beaten by a rookie, and spat the dummy when his demands for the team to give him the advantage over his rookie team mate failed.

Gonzalvez Alvez - 2016? Maybe. The other 2 are idiotic. 1989 - Senna needed 2 wins in the last 2 races. He crashed in the last race in Adelaide so it’s not really close in the end even if you give him Suzuka. 1994 - the only reason Hill is close is because some extreme penalties that were handed to Schumacher for minor infractions. Don’t get me wrong, Schumacher cheated that day and I would have been very happy if Hill had been crowned champion but in the context of the whole season, Schumacher was the best driver.
@gonzalvezalvez65726 жыл бұрын
@@jsphblw Schumacher cheated his whole life...he has cheated even death! I get your point! But imagine if Jean Marie Balestre hadn't stole Ayrton's victory in Japan, Maybe Senna would not drive like a mad man in rage at Adelaide and would not crash with Brundle (I think). Schumacher should have been irradicated from the sport after that filthy move on Hill in Australia. I was watching live (as allways) and at that moment I could kill the cheater 2016 to me, and no one can make me think otherwise Mercedes gave the championship to another german rat only because he is German and it would go very well a german brand with a german (fake) champ. It's not easy but I hope Lewis has the strenght to reach at least 7 championship titles! Almost five!
@jsphblw6 жыл бұрын
Gonzalvez Alvez - He crashed because he couldn’t see the car ahead of him. Piquet moved over to pass Brundle. Senna thought he’d moved for him and drove into the gap and Brundle. It wouldn’t have mattered what had happened in Japan. He was unsighted at that moment. How would having Suzuka awarded to him help him see better? On the Hamilton part, I don’t agree that Mercedes cheated. But it is hard to deny that Hamilton was a much better driver than Rosberg and would have won that championship if it wasn’t for mechanical issues during the year. He should be chasing his 7th championship right now if it hadn’t been for McLaren’s idiotic call in the 2007 Chinese GP and reliability issues in 2016.

@@jsphblw Well, winning the Suzuka G.P. would not improve his eyesight but, for sure, he would be in another state of mind. But at the end you are right even if the race was awarded to him it would be dificult...but not impossible. From what I remember Prost didnt even restarted because of the rain (at Adelaide) just imagine if...I think if he would not had been robbed of the victory in japan, maybe he would drive in a diferent manner "slower" and "cautiously" and maybe he would had won the championship...it would be a nice revenge for Monaco '84!

Monaco 1984. In the rain Ayrton Senna, in his first season driving for Toleman, was in the lead ahead of Alain Prost when the race was stopped due to poor conditions. Although Senna was in the lead the rules stipulated that the winner was the driver who was in the lead when ALL the drivers had completed the previous lap, which was Prost. However if the race had continued for another lap then Stefan Bellof would have overtaken Senna and Prost, who both had problems and were slowing. Australia 1986. Nigel Mansell. Exploding tyre.
