Comparing my old Audi S4 B5 to new M3 Competition X-drive,... Audi : better steering (servo), much better catapulting torque (whole rev range), engine and exhaust breathing freely, more organic sound (no cat), better power delivery, better stability (quattro). Big fun factor M3: faster, feel stronger only after 5000 revs (below is very shy) You know what I mean ): , old school wins. Thanks for your videos

The power at high revolutions is expressed in every BMW, that is BMW's recipe. For driving pleasure, I don't believe you can compare a BMW with an Audi, much less with a new model BMW. While the clean sound of the engine in the new models is not the same as in the old models, and from the European cars, BMW and Mercedes have kept the clean sound for longer, since BMW was the last to join turbo gasoline engines.

stock replace or Schrick? I didn't notice much out of my S70 engine, but then the E31 weighed sooooooo much. My E34 was similarly so easy and smooth and derivable as well. Mild camber plates, 7 series upper control arm bushings and Bilstein Sports and it was sweet in the mountains. Got better than 24 mpg on the highway in summer with A/C on at 140 kmh

@@madmike5144 I agree but I don't think you get what I am saying ;) The steering wheel itself is not straight. It is closer to your right hand than to your left hand. It is fixed this way so nothing that you can change about it. I sometimes notice it when I drive my E30's, but it does not matter as these cars are great fun to drive 😆

I’m still driving my 1989 e30 316i. 601000km. It’s a great balance. Fantastic feel putting a smile on my car when I do country side roads. This is a great looking car and best among all out there. Classic feel that never goes out of style.

What I really loved about this car and any car from the 80's I must say, is the clarity and visibility of the cabin. Thin windshield pillars, big windows. You can't miss a pedestrian when driving in town, you have almost no blindspot. And parking this car in reverse gear is simple a f**k. You just don't need no parking sensors :D

You should have a look at the cooling system - the needle should be straight down the middle of the gauge. Could be the fan clutch, water pump (should have been changed with the mentioned engine revision), or even the thermostat...

It's a BMW, if the cooling system is in good condition then something else could be catastrophically wrong 🤣

That is a beauty! I love the sound of it. I got a 318i for my 21st birthday back in 1991 and I had no problem at all with it except for a tire blowout at 180kph. All good though, and it served me well.

Great memories. My first car was a BMW E30 316i. You really do learn to drive properly with them. No traction control. No ABS. Total driver focused. Sadly, it completely rusted away and I sold it for pennies. They are now worth a small fortune!

Excellent video Max! Personally my love for the E30 runs deep, and it's something I've covered in depth on my own channel having had my E30 Touring for several years now. The durability, versatility, reliability and driver focus of this platform is what makes it one of the best BMWs ever in my opinion. The M20 is such a great engine too. The coolant temperature meter seems to be all over the place, and dangerously hot after idling when you drove off. Perhaps check the thermostat (and the rest of the cooling system for that matter)

my first car was a 1987 325is, i paid only 1200 USD for a delphin grey, super clean manual back in 2002. learned how to drive properly thanks to that car. edit: was gonna say replace all the fuel lines lol. they are super prone to cracking and leaking.

Ive owned 5 e30s. 85 325e coupe (bronzit), 86 325es (alpenweise), 87 325is (black n tan w maf w h&r coilovers), 88 328i coupe (zinno coupe with stroker, 272, maf, z3 rack, gc coilovers, full exhausr, etc etc), 89 325i cabrio (zinno over black). Also had sets of 16" bbs, 16x9 borbet b full square set. Really enjoyed the e30 chassis. ❤❤❤❤

Great video! Own an E30 325i cabrio myself. For the coolant gauge check the grounding nut on the back of the instrument cluster which could loosen overtime and give a jumpy reading. As for the 13 button on board display you might want to get a new screen repair kit and it'll look perfect :) All the best!
