The Boeing 747 sadly went out of production some weeks ago. Surprisingly, this fact could've been a nice segway to this video, as the reason that the famous airliner was axed was 'cos it was extremely thirsty and was deemed 'too damaging' to the environment.

I had the 2nd R1 (Exup II) and enjoyed it for 5 years, never missed a beat plus savagely quick! Pretty sure that bike was circa 140hp so this new one must be insane. Great review Rory; cars or bikes, guy's a great journalist and I bet a good bloke to chat all this motors over a beer! 👍

He's mentioned same power about five times whilst tip toeing round country roads. Anyone who knows anything about bikes knows 200hp is enough for anyone not on a track and pretty much everyone replaces the restrictive exhaust as soon as they buy one.

The old R1s I raced against and rode occasionally. What I noticed was they seemed to rev to eternity. And make more power up top than some other sportbikes. I imagine now adding another 50 or 75bhp Its about usable power and how good the rider is. I'm glad I took my time getting to the 1000cc sportbike level. Also kids a 600cc sportbike in town will eat a 1000cc for breakfast. But give that 1000cc a highway or long tracks. It's gone. Great review Rory.

A supercharger will work, however a turbocharger on a stock bike like the r1 which is made to take corners.... Not really. It works on a busa cuz that was made to take a straight line for many kilometres on a tour. But for a bike as high revving and light as the r1.... No.

The fact of the matter is the the new R1 does actually have a substantial power increase over the last model once a decat system is installed and the bike is tuned. The new R1 makes the same power as the old one while being more restricted than the old one. Remove those restrictions and it's a weapon.

Except for those loser hard parker, IG "car enthusiasts." Its a bit more difficult to review a bike, but they have figured out a FANTASTIC formula here. Great job guys, hiring Rory was the BEST decision Auto Trader could have made!!! Didn't like him on TG but that must have been because they made him act goofy and recite a shifty script. My first moto was a Yamaha FZ-1. I loved the moto. Later I got the R1. Now I'm looking at the MT-10. But, leaning (no pun) towards an R1 again. I just wasn't crazy about the design compared to the the 2009 version. Still, I love good tech. And the tech on this is nice to me. :) Great review as usual. I didn't even know you did moto's!

Race suspension can be a good thing on the street depending on how you ride. And if you own an r1... i can pretty much guess how you like to ride. Now that i think about it, the bike is so fast it needs to be set up with racy ergos as well. It should deter those who dont like to ride fast a lot, as their skills may not be up to par for the bike. And it should provide maximum feedback and control for those who do like to ride fast a lot. If you like to ride a bike like you stole it, cant do much better than an r1. If you like to mosey about the town, maybe not so much.

World Traveler , I agree, Sportbikes went beyond the average rider (like me) 25 years ago. You still have the same roads with gravel and deer to contend with and low speed limits. Plus now the cops have Lidar and drones besides radar . . . my point being the new bikes are definitely better for the track, but sure look cool on the street!
