The problem with rented tools is that parts are often missing. In your toolbox the large and heavy collar to expand the jaws is missing. Also without the collar you cannot grip a bearing on the outside.

Good morning ☕️ We appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts. We have experienced that before as well however we have had good luck with AutoZone, for the most part. We have rented our fair share of tools or tool kits and thankfully, most have come with no missing parts. But you’re right, parts can go missing if not taken care of properly. 👍🧰

I just buy the tool. It pays for itself the first time you use it. And even if I never use it, I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Period.

Buying a tool, using it, and returning it, is a dirty fucking thing to do. Doing this forces the retailer to sell the tool a second time, at a reduced cost, which drives up the cost on other, identical new tools, making them more expensive for everyone else. It's a lot easier to just go to a tool rental store, rent to use, then return it and get your deposit back. This is just typical me me me me screw everyone else childish behavior.

Good morning, we are drinking our morning coffee answering any and all questions for the DIY community. Renting tool and then returning it for a 100% return on deposit is definitely the way to go for tools that are part replacement specific and not used on a regular basis. Hello there, AutoZone offers this “Free Tool Rental” option to customers. It is common here in California. They are not New tools some even missing parts. They are a ‘Rental Tool’. They get the job done in a pinch. Basically you pay full price upfront for the used tool they have laying in the back, you take it home, use it, and return it for full deposit refund. If you keep the tool, well you already paid full price for a used tool 😂 I hate people that buy New tools only to use them and return them later. That’s not an honest thing to do at all. However, used tool rentals are different.
