It'd all about themes, the new one matches the colours of other accessories more than the previous one does. I'm glad it's back though, it was one if the first "new" accessories that we used when we got back to BRIO.

I just started to buy a few things from Brio for my kids for this Christmas. I had a friend growing up that had Brio but we couldn’t afford it… I really like some of the newer trains they have! I’m going to try and steer clear of anything plastic or electronic. I just like the wooden stuff. I purchased one of the classic deluxe sets for my youngest, the Speedy Bullet plus track expansion for my oldest, and the Japanese exclusive train for my daughter. I also plan to buy some vintage pieces as well. I hope to find a good condition Santa Fe sometime.

We have our Top 5 trains, sets and accessories video coming out next week so that might be helpful for you. We only ever had wooden tracks growing up and a few trains, but as they grow I do think the plastic pieces have their place. The ascending curves for example are an excellent piece for track building, and would be very difficult to make in wood.

It's nice that you get some wagons cargo and figure with it. Then for those of us who collect BRIO the exclusive parts make the set more appealing than it might otherwise be if you already own the parts. One of our favourite things about BRIO is that if you own two of the same train it's not a negative, as it offers expanded play options. A little disappointed that there's no actual NEW trains. Shinkansen is the only exception, and it's a recolor.

I hear what your saying, I guess the Plesiousaurus is the closest we came this season... let's hope next year will bring a new non-battery train, as it will have been 5 years since the streamline train was introduced...

I'm guessing when they have done these more regional sets in the past they haven't sold well outside of their target country. Japan have some interesting unique sets actually which we will look at in a future video

I just ordered this Japan exclusive train from Amazon Japan. You’ll have to make an account. But it was fairly easy and there is an English language setting on the Japanese amazon website. I was able to get it shipped to the USA for about $40 USD. Not sure where you’re located but it may be available for shipping to Europe as well.
