Totally agree John, treated the missus to tickets as she's the detectorist and I'm the spade man, but after 6hrs on Saturday(with many shade breaks)and very few finds even she couldn't raise the enthusiasm to start again sunday,no-one we spoke to had anything special and all seemed disappointed with the field prep but at least the cider was cold. Thanks for your usual entertaining video and congrats to Simon

It was a tough weekend. The Badminton Estate has been hammered by Detectorists for years and the footfall for events also means it’s littered with junk. The Victorian and Georgian stuff was devoid in most fields and the lack of such finds tells you all you need to know. Yes some good stuff came up but I didn’t see a single pre-decimal silver and only four or five pre-decimal coins, so it’s been heavily detected for a long time. But for the Saturday weather I’m sure more good stuff might have come up, but I take Detectival as more of a social event these days and if something good comes up great, but I appreciate for most they want good land and finds! Happy hunting and maybe see you in a future dig!

My day started at detectival with, while tha a garret not working ,I was in despair , I luckily came across a garret tent with a few friendly technicians who away to me , changed my circuit board while they were repairing it , john and Marty were there , well what a couple of gents they were , chatted away to me and both were very humble , , the kind technician got my detector sorted and met a couple of gents all in 10 mins ,, made my weekend , I got no great finds but that experience was enough to make me keep the hobby going , it’s not all about what’s in the ground

Hi Patrick! I remember the moment well and fair play to Garrett and Regton for getting you up and running again cost free. It was lovely to meet and I’m glad me and sweaty Martyn didn’t put you off too much 😂 Sorry like me you didn’t come up with the goods, but that’s detecting for you! See you in the next!! @The Scottish Detectorist John as a longtime Floridian and having also spent years in other even more tropical places I gave you some very good directions on how to deal with a hot, sunny climate including how to dress to minimize the effects of the heat and sun. This was in the comments on one of your previous videos. I see that you either missed or completely ignored that experience based advice so I'll try again: Wear loose fitting lightweight and lightly colored clothing. That goes for your hat as well. Your hat should be light in color and of a type you can wet with water. As the water evaporates it will naturally have a dramatic cooling effect. Keep it wet. Drink PLENTY of water AND a Sports Drink of some kind that contains electrolytes.

Well I don’t lose my musket ball but Simòn did lose his and his sunglasses and he stood on his other sunglasses and broke them too, and he lost his bag of tomatoes and he lost his receiver and he re-found his receiver and he found a match box of silver plate with the original paper advert which he then lost too 😂 honestly!!

Gotta love that green waste shrapnel :-( I had an awful time. Gave up at midday on Saturday. Went to go out again at 1500, but arthritis in my left foot was agony and still bad on Sunday, so went home. One button and a tiny trade token is all I came away with.

Hi Peter. Glad you made it but I feel your pain (my knee) and also the detecting. It was rough for me and you too it seems. Saturdays weather certainly didn’t help 😆

You make me laugh John with your sense of humour. The weather has been quite cruel lately so don’t worry that it’s because you’re Scottish. I went up to Glasgow and Edinburgh a couple of months back and the best thing I came back with was 18 mosquito bites all over my body and still haven’t healed yet lol ( fierce blighters ) thanks for a great video and congratulations to the Spanish Peacock finding the x2 silver Romans 🤗👍

I'm Scottish and when I was up in the Highlands I got so many midgie bites ( the wee hooligans knew I was a townie) it took almost 2 years for the scars to disappear 😢

Great video John. Can you tell Simon He does not need to use that Bluetooth Transmitter with the minelab Headphones. You only need them if you use different headphones. He just has to pair the Headphones to the detector. 👍

Thanks Colin…. If only Simòn had read the manual he’d know that already but you’ll have now saved him a lot of heart ache!! 😆 thanks

I don’t blame you for giving up…it was very poor. I had a lovely snake brooch from field 39 and a thousand musket balls.

I saw the brooch!! Amazing, well done you

Well done to Simon on his double Roman silver. I'll claim it was due to watching hours of Aussie Equinox tutorials in the car en route to the event. Heck, for us, 30 Celcius is a pleasant day. Make sure you never visit Australia in summer, John. You'll perish in our 38 to 40 C! 🌞

Many thanks Tony. Simon is now well and truly hooked! Many thanks

@@thescottishdetectorist and, I have to ask... you seemed to be wearing rubber gumboots (Wellington boots, Wellies) in the 30 degree heat, or am I mistaken?
