This was completely delightful, as always. I hope to pick up The Harpy, and I'm curious about My Husband by Maud Ventura that you mentioned as well. Currently reading Wellness by Nathan Hill, an exploration of contemporary anxieties told through a particular marriage. The reading of your upcoming collection was brilliant, my copy comes in Novemeber 🙂

Hi Jen! So happy to have a cozy autumnal video. I’m currently reading The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida, Entangled Life as well as Please Do Not Touch This Exhibit!!! I’ve been totally pulled in by the poetry collection and been making my partner and family members listen to me read excerpts since I got it. Congratulations on its publication! ☺️

I loved The Harpy! I remember a particular “WHOA!” moment when either the first or second revenge was revealed. I agree the ending wasn’t quite there, but I loved it overall. Looking forward to her next one as I also loved The End We Start From.

Can't wait till I can prioritize to buy you book! Was so happy to see you read Ice. Read it in my bookclub earlier this year on my suggestion, after reading her short stories Asylumn pieces like 10 years ago, but her writing still amazed me. But it became a favorite of mine after because of how effectively she conveys this new chilling place and the confusion he experiences, as well as how dense and suggestive it feels. But yeah, agree on the issues on male gaze, which makes me want to read more on her and why she might have written it like such

Loved this reading vlog! I was so confused when you showed the new Nicci French book. I already have that book in Dutch, I read it earlier this year. I guess the book has come out in Dutch before it is even published in English? I didn't know that was even possible. I loved the book by the way, very excited for you to read it! Yesterday I read your new book and I really enjoyed it. I am not a poetry reader usually, but a lot of the poems spoke to me. It was wonderful ❤

Yes, it's an odd one; they're more popular in mainland Europe than they are here, so they're published there first, even though they're written in English, ha. I'm glad you enjoyed their book (and mine!) thanks. x

The myriad mentions you made to autumn in your video coincided delightfully with my current read, Ali Smith's Autumn. You've enthused about Ali Smith's writing in many a video, and I've glad to have finally gotten around to reading Autumn despite it being springtime here in Australia. I'm enjoying it a great deal! ❤

Thanks for the tip about the pumpkins! I have grown loads this year and we have a lot of foxes around here! 😂 I’ve only read one short story by Anna Kavan which was pretty weird but I think she’s a fascinating writer. I recently listened to a podcast about Ice but I was put off reading it for the reasons you mentioned so might try some of her other stories. I’m reading All the Little Bird Hearts and am very invested!

Unfortunately it doesn’t happen often because they’re normally with small presses. I would love to record an audiobook, especially for accessibility reasons, but unfortunately the ball is not in my court. I’ll be reading more of the poems at events in the next couple of weeks, if you want to listen www.jen-campbell.co.uk/events.html x

Hi. I thought I wrote down the book that you mentioned in a past post, but I can't find it. I've scrolled and scrolled. It was about a woman who changed her face and went back to the town she grew up in. That's all I remember. Sorry, I hope you remember. Thx

Love ice. Slipstream at its finest. Does the protagonist need the world to be in chaos and the woman to be in peril so he can validate the violent actions he takes?

Was there really a girl? Or really was anything relayed to us accurate? Interesting to consider all this knowing kavan, a female author, had a severe addiction problem.
@jenvcampbell Жыл бұрын
@@bmaei5 I got the philosophical question, but I'm saying that I'm just not interested in reading about a man fantasising about abusing a girl, whether she's stood in front of him or in his head.

Hi Jen, lucky you being able to get your flannels on, we're in to Spring and heading onwards to Summer and going to heat up to fire season. I like the sound of Ice, the writing sounds really beautiful and the mystery woman intrigues me. I might read it next year during the Winter period, it sounds like a wintery read. I've just slipped back over here to thank you for putting up kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4bUaIh6iaZqhK8 to explain about EEC syndrome. You're right after I heard you say the syndrome I googled it to read a little more and it's quite rare as you said. I'm not one to ask you about this, but I will acknowledge that I have wondered about your illness. The life struggles that you've had are so much, and extraordinary. I think you are an amazing person and so inspiring. So thank you so much for linking this willingly for us. So kind of you. Kathy
