WHO I AM
Hello, I'm Jen Campbell. I'm an award-winning poet and bestselling author of twelve books, spanning short stories, poetry, picture books, and nonfiction.
My books for adults include The Beginning of the World in the Middle of the Night, The Girl Aquarium, The Bookshop Book, and The Sunday Times bestselling Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops series. My picture book trilogy Franklin and Luna, and my middle-grade book The Sister Who Ate Her Brothers, are published by Thames & Hudson. Urquhart’s work sounds powerful. Her experience with the form and the doctor saying we won’t hold you to it is terrifying. Each day I feel as if I am holding a balance between appreciating great beauty and wonderful people next to idiocy and evil. Whew. Sometimes the balance tips and this is one of those weeks. Still, trying to focus on the good works. Thank you for your insights and those dumplings. And those cream buns! 🙏🏼

I’m one of those who absolutely enjoy your reading vlogs with some non-book related content thrown in. Love watching you cook too. I don’t find the lack of scenery boring at all. Most of all, I love listening to you talk, be it book related or not.

One thing I love about your videos is that whenever I click the title, I also think back to myself: ”this probably won’t interest me at all” and then after watching I feel absolutely inspired, as if my brain would’ve been jump started with all of the beautiful thoughts and ideas you share with us. I guess it’s mostly because the titles of your videos are similar to all the general booktube-content out there (and for example ”i tried reading for 2h/d”-videos generally aren’t my cup of tea), but the insights on this channel are always way deeper than you’d think. Thank you for this!

19:30 Yes! Doctors "are not prepared for the length it takes to tell it." It's reached the point where I get stunned silence from medical assistants or nurses, or they rush through my medication list and don't mark the appropriate frequency of some. I self-edit a lot, presenting only what I'm certain will get us to the next stage of the appointment, then show my doctor my written list, and we go from there.

Thank you for also sharing your delicious recipes with us! This reminds me that I wanted to suggest to you a South African book series: The Tannie (Auntie) Maria Murder Mystery Series by Sally Andrew. So far, there are four books. It is a cosy read with lots of food content and even recipes at the end. Additionally, there is a lot of South African context. You might enjoy reading them😊

Try using castor oil for cysts. It penetrates really deeply and it heals almost everything. My mum had one for ages, and it completely went away after using castor oil.

Hey Jen, I just read your new poetry collection and loved it! I think it's one of those books I'll be thinking about for a long time. And also I've missed your work vlogs and still really enjoy watching you talk about your job, even though you're not going to different places. I just love having a look behind the scenes of what you're doing, how you're preparing for an event etc. :)

Hi Jen! Been watching your videos for a long time and I have a grammar question. Whenever you talk about a translated book, I’ve noticed you say, for example, that the book is translated from “the Japanese” or “the Korean”. What is the grammar rule when adding the “the”, or what is the purpose of the “the” before the language and not just saying the language? I never would have thought to add the “the” before the language. Random question, I know. Lots of love ❤
@jenvcampbell

The implication is you’re missing out a word: “translated from the [original] Korean” or “translated from the Korean [language].” x
