Yeah, I heard this not knowing who was playing (it was in a playlist), and thought,"Huh. Sure sounds like Chet Baker.".... then the sax started playing and I thought "That's GOT to be Desmond", and halfway through, was thinking "but who's that kick-ass drummer??" I usually find this to be a boring tune but there isn't a dull moment here.

I was fortunate to meet Chet Baker in Las Vegas at the Four Queens just before he passed. On his breaks he came to talk to our little table of four. We asked for an autograph but he adamantly refused. There was a total of about fifteen people in the audience. He swung the Four Queen’s hand down to the table that night. What a gentle soul, and a class musician. Great band too.

Jazz, with its rich history and vibrant melodies, stands as a true testament to the beauty of human creativity. It is a genre that defies boundaries, fusing various musical influences and cultural expressions into a harmonious tapestry of sound. Jazz appreciation goes beyond mere enjoyment; it involves an immersion into a world of improvisation, syncopation, and emotional storytelling. The intricate interplay between instruments, the expressive solos, and the collective energy of a jazz ensemble create a captivating experience for both the musicians and the audience. From the smoky clubs of New Orleans to the grand stages of international jazz festivals, this art form has transcended time and geography, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural fabric of the world. Jazz appreciation invites us to explore the depths of human expression, to celebrate individuality within the collective, and to experience the pure joy of spontaneous musical creation. It is a genre that constantly evolves, embracing new influences and pushing the boundaries of what is possible. Jazz appreciation is a lifelong journey, a never-ending quest to uncover new rhythms, discover hidden gems, and connect with the universal language of music.

Jazz music is an absolute marvel that never fails to captivate me. The improvisation, the intricate melodies, and the soulful expression take me on a musical journey like no other. The sheer talent and virtuosity of jazz musicians astound me, as they effortlessly navigate complex rhythms and harmonies. Whether it's the joyful swing of an up-tempo tune or the poignant beauty of a slow ballad, jazz always manages to stir my emotions and transport me to another realm. Its timeless appeal and endless creativity continue to inspire and amaze me. Jazz music is a true treasure that deserves endless appreciation.

I admire a lot of sax players, but for me, enjoyable listening - Paul Desmond, man! It is just a very relaxing style - sit back and have an adult beverage. I like a lot of aggressive players too but I find with Paul - even people that aren't big jazz fans can get into it. And that's not to say that he's playing Jazz for Beginners. It's his personality and humor that come through his instrument. Gone too soon. Reading stories about him and what he wrote himself - too bad he never finished that book. I really love his odd sense of humor. Cover of his Summertime album - all icicles! One of the original "characters" of jazz.

DC Young's comments ring true. Really appreciated. Paul Desmond was one of a kind. If Debussy was born 100 years later and could blow, it might have been Paul. How lyrical and yet, such dry wit and humor. Much thanks.

Music is the universal language. I usually speak English and you all speak Spanish, but all of us can listen to this music and enjoy it.

I remember vividly my Tatay who plays as cool as Paul Desmond on the alto sax and even tenor sax. This piece was played by the Romy Posadas Band when they had an 8-year stint at Hyatt Hongkong. They were a sensation then in the 70's. Musicians emulated that group.

Buona vita.

I have this album in my collection. It’s one of the greatest pieces of jazz music I’ve ever heard. The musicians are out of this world. When I get on the boat late at night, on the quiet waters of the Gulf, the music takes me to another dimension. It’s transformative.

In Steve Gadd's hands, the drums aren't just a rhythm instrument. They're a MUSICAL instrument! He's one of the best of all time.

Rythm is the backbone of music, Without it you have only a suite of notes that means nothing.
