Eating shrimp is one of the worst things you could do for our oceans. Please don't eat shrimp, regardless of how good it is for you. For every pound of shrimp that's caught, 20 lbs of other marine life (ie: juvenile snapper, turtles, etc.) is also caught, killed, and discarded as by-catch. Shrimp is caught by dragging massive nets across the ocean floor, which SEVERELY messes up ecosystems. The commercial shrimping industry has the highest rate of incidental by-catch of any seafood.

Not really hungry for lunch today but getting up now to have some turkey, and cheese stick, and some coleslaw. Not the highest/best but something I can assemble and eat in about 5 min! I'm surprised you didn't rate cheese - so many people tell me it's good for protein but I treat it as a delicious fat instead.

Thanks for the chart and information on protein foods. I went through gastric bypass surgery earlier this year and of course spent time talking with plenty of doctors and a nutritionist. Mostly it was prep work for after surgery and healthy eating advice, but a chart like this would of been really helpful. I'm not a big fan of the protein powders so I try to get it in my food, after looking at this chart I'm probably not always getting enough protein. This helps a lot, thanks again. @patriciazoerner16 күн бұрын
When you compare bison to beef it's important to remember that bison has much less fat for comparable cuts than beef does.
@ApostolosKatsioulas2 ай бұрын
Dear Autumn, I am not a nutritionist as you. When it comes down to white meat cuts, I've always felt better when consuming turkey rather than chicken, I don't believe turkey should be ranked lower than chicken, therefore. We don't have bison meat in Greece in supermarkets; you could find in some butcher shops, but it's too expensive. Salmon and eggs, I am addicted to both, I would rank eggs though excellent. I can't say much when it comes to plant-based protein sources, having read much about soy I am not a fan of any of its products. When it comes to beans and legumes, I've read that consuming spinach alongside chickpeas assists in the absorption of nutrients. Quinoa is a reliable source of carbohydrates; it's like peanut butter as you mention in videos; useful source of fat, not protein. Thanks for the video, much love
@christinelamb11672 ай бұрын
I'm with you on turkey! I don't really care for chicken that much. It doesn't taste very good to me, and I don't feel great when I eat it. But I LOVE turkey! It's so delicious, and I feel so good and satisfied with it as part of a meal. I like salmon and eggs alot, too! I also really like sardines and anchovies, although I've only ever had the canned variety. I'd love to try fresh sardines and anchovies! Do you get those types of fish fresh in Greece?
@ApostolosKatsioulas2 ай бұрын
@@christinelamb1167 We do get fresh sardines and anchovies, both are cheaper than salmon, way cheaper. I don't mind canned ones either but when buying canned ones opt for the ones in olive oil and not sunflower oil. as a vegan I saw with interest your video. To me, this table is oversimplified. let me explain why: I know pople (myself included) that become sick when eating animal products. I thrive on beans, especially edamame and cruciferous greens, as well as seeds and nuts. On the flipside, I know people with heavy autoinmune dieseases which got healthy with a carnivore diet (mikhaila Peterson eg). So... which is right? we gotta find out for ourselves. Even the exact amount of proteins we need differs a lot from person to person. I dont need very much protein, about 70-80 g per day

Pea protein - high in salicylates. Many people don’t realize that it can cause behavioral issues. I didn’t read one of the Kodiak labels once because I had read some of their other products that only had whey protein. Gave it to my kid and when he started bouncing off the walls and expressing a lot of anger for no reason - I went back and looked - sure enough- it had pea protein. Obviously doesn’t bug everyone but just something to be aware of. We look out for things like red dye or msg for kids but how many of these chemicals and processed compounds affect us as adults too and we have no idea?

I do feel like you are biased toward animal proteins so I think it would be helpful to split out the plant-based proteins into a totally separate video. I have concerns about the saturated fat and cholesterol risk factors with all of the red meat and dairy, since it is counter to so many other health recommendations. Please address these concerns for long-term health, and not just weight loss.

Lots of studies referenced in my other videos on protein if you want to check those out. I also address the health related concerns in various videos too. This one was just quite lengthy as is, so I couldn't dive into that information as well (considering I've already covered this extensively in the past). Fun fact, I actually was vegetarian for the majority of my childhood/early adulthood. But I started eating more animal-based proteins because they are higher DIAAS and much more nutrient dense. But I do make sure to share the best possible options for my plant-based friends as well, hence why I have a section dedicated to plant-based sources in this video. You can check out one example of the nutrient density concern here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6HNZmysdtiaabM

Systematic reviews of the science have shown no benefit to high protein diets from animal sources vs plant based for weight loss. Not sure where she got her degree, but ignoring the role of saturated fat and fiber for the single goal of weight loss is pretty irresponsible. Eating meat for high protein means way too much saturated fat and no fiber. Losing weight at the expense of increased cancer and heart disease risk doesn’t seem wise. As a category, vegans are the leanest and it’s not even close. And, there are world class vegan bodybuilders that eat zero animal protein. Some are even life long vegans.
