This is way better than the old way and makes more sense to me, surprised to see so many negative comments( I've had it since release also and always welcome a closer to reality simulation. 2-3 sessions and you'll forget the old method.

Ya seems like an overreaction to me. Even some claiming they won't use the Harrier anymore :/ I want the plane as real as possible!

This underlines the fact you have to pick a module and keep flying it to remain current. You can't fly and fight all the modules, at least my brain isn't good enough to remember the different switchology!
@timmy38223 жыл бұрын
I tend to find its easier to fly multiple older aircraft modules that the newer ones. Trying to fly the F/A-18C, F-16C and the AV-8B is awkward because the HOTAS commands are different for things like setting SOI/SPI etc. Meanwhile the Viggen, MiG-21 and say the F-14 don't have these complex display systems, instead relying on dedicated switches for each function. Makes it easier to remember imo.

Been flying the Harrier as of late and gotta say that for the multiple targets in one pass, when you create marks on the map, load them into the craft and assign JDAM's to them, the old approach still works. You just fly at 35k feet and drop bombs when you're at 14 miles from them. Despite not having cue on the hud, they will hit the targets. The new method is you just select (looks like one of) the assigned targets in the ehsd, press DESG, the cuing appears on the hud. Tested both ways yesterday. The results are puzzling a bit, because the old way, without desg and hud cueing, managed to kill 18 targets out of 20. The new way, despite bombs dropped with about 100% hit probability on the hud, got me 0 of 10 hits (one bomb was dropped using tpod laser ranging winc).

I have to say after trying this change out last night i use to love flying the av8b. I no longer think i will be using it that much. This new change is just way too much to try and use. I understand they did it because its realistic, but they should have done it from the start then. for us to learn to use it one way for over a year and then all of a sudden change it to something totally different just sucks.
@grimreapers4 жыл бұрын
Agreed, I won't be using it either. Going over the top now.
@slowhornet48024 жыл бұрын
I thought the same but the Harrier is so unique... in the end this change seems to be :"press Designate" to switch the symbology. SPI is first located on the waypoint but can be quickly moved. Still better than the Mig-21 where you have to flip dozen things just to realize in the moment the target is under the pipper you had forgotten to charge the gun.
@agamemnonn13 жыл бұрын
There's literally an arrow on the path vector that points to the designated point, so you don't even have to do all of this.
@delta99902 жыл бұрын
really? its the diffrence of one button and just changed symbology, literally got used to it like 15 minutes after release its not a big deal really

So much simpler...said no one ever. That can’t be the way it is IRL. Thanks for the tutorial I though!
@harritudur1764 жыл бұрын
The fact that it snaps back to STP after drop is perhaps because you don't want to do multiple attack runs in AUTO/CCRP on the same target. As it isn't that accurate you drop all you have and get out. --> switch to egress. When plinking tanks you use CCIP and I hope it still creates a TGT point on pickle and leaves it where it is! Just a thought.
@lukex54164 жыл бұрын
I also find when I'm using laser guided bombs with TPod, I can actually press LTTP(used to be L Range) and it can also create a target point for my gbus and “auto” symbology.

Got the Targets appearing on DMT or use the way point. Got all the correct stuff on the HUD. The TGT / Auto / Count Down appearing and the vertical drop line . Bombs selected. ARMED. Fuze Set. Hold down weapon release button before count down ends and fly over target. and nothing....

Undo something you learned before is very confusing and requires even more effort to master. I would prefer they've thought about this implementation before introducing it. These things are the core basics of plane... Its like having to learn the whole plane again an forget everything you've learned in the past 3 YEARS.... And this change is not the only thing they've changed in the Harrier... TGP is also totally different...

I am new to the game, so maybe someone can help me out here. I was a bit confused with the last sentence, that other planes are going "this direction". So is this new system how it actually works in the real Harrier (as well as then in the FA18, F16), or is it something that ED makes up because they can't simulate the real system?
@grimreapers4 жыл бұрын
The answer is I don't really know, but I think some systems on some of the planes are simplified for the users, but I expect they eventually be replaced with the super realistic methods. Downside is these planes will get really hard to fly.

@@grimreapers Realism is always good. And real things aren't always logical anyway - just like the TDC cursor that sits in and returns to the upper left corner in the Hornet :D
@paristo3 жыл бұрын
@@CakePrincessCelestia It is very logical when one starts to fly it like a real aircraft in real conditions. 1) You have only one attack run, you do not want to come for a second pass as they are ready for it and you get a missile or shells on your face. 2) When you plan your attack, you set waypoints INBOUND and OUTBOUND. In heat of attack, in the low visibility, at night etc you have no idea where you are really going. And you need to be looking outside and possibly avoid shells fired at your way etc. So what you want to do, is that first you designate target from a distance with 6x DMT, select waypoint for INBOUND (ie. #4) and fly to it, and then you will switch to target designation to fly toward it, when you have released your bombs and so, you switch to OUTBOUND waypoint that will easily help you to fly out of the danger zone without looking for compass and all. You always have the targets as well waypoints available just behind a one button. This is one of those things what makes Harrier superior to A-10C in fast and correctly timed attacks that A-10C pilots can't do as efficiently as Harrier pilots can do because A-10C pilots have their hands full on multiple hats and buttons. Where Harrier pilots just comes and does it with old good fashion way with clever assistance of the electronics keeping everything simple and effective.

Thanks for explaining this overly complicated procedure! Its a shame they did a complete overhaul after 3 Years since they've introduced the Harrier. Its not giving any benefit at all. When is the Harrier finished actually? It felt already polished... (except some bugs)
