The 'Look Mum No Computer" circuit diagram has the ground to the wrong side of the load. It will put some audio energyinto the speaker but only what the transistor takes off the capacitor that is rechharged through the resistor. This will have much slower edges and far reduced amplitude, hence the quietness. It was probably an honest mistake...

Totally agree, just one connection in the wrong spot. He has a great channel and if ever get over there I will visit his museum "This Museum is (NOT) Obsolete". Found his site, when looking at pipe organs. Have a good day

S9018 will "strobe" at only 6 Volts, so you can use a 9 V battery, no problem.

@@retireeelectronics2649 I made a fire fly in a bottle that flashed a white LED. That SMD should be very good for that with the Cap and Resistor hidden with the battery.

Haven't seen a real fire fly in way to long of a time. Sounds like a good project to make and put in a tree (-:
