Avalanche Somehow Get Two Points, Blackwood Comes Up Huge in OT Win Over Rangers

A lot of people have been badmouthing Mittelstadt. He is exactly what the Avs need from a mid-6 forward (2nd-3rd liner). He isn't Kadri, and neither will Naz be if he comes back. Also, Cale mishandled and turned over what led to the first goal. Things happen on the ice, and everyone has downswings. Avs had a great jump off the start, and that fed the idea that the NYRs are in freefall and the boys didn't need to commit 100%. Like Bednar said, love 2 points but half the team showed they cared.

If this was true, 37 being exactly what the Avs need at 2C, he wouldn’t be getting demoted to 4C and being benched for half the 3rd period. Can you see Naz getting demoted damn near every game by mid 2nd period? No. Naz isn’t coming back, but he is running 1C this year fyi

Mittelstadt lost control of the puck which led to the second goal for the Rangers. He seems to be becoming more and more hesitant as time goes on. Not sure what he needs, but would love to see him get some mojo back. Bednar was not happy with the effort of the team tonight. Hopefully they can turn it around. Love that our goalies are stealing us games now instead of costing us them. Love having our Lumberyard back together!

SICK OF THAT POWERPLAY ACTIVELY HURTING US Start the 2nd unit. Bench someone. Do anything. If Blackwood hadn't played out of his skin that shortie would've cost us 2 points like the last shortie did Team was totally defeated yet again after that. Blackwood won that game, not the Avs

Honestly, they need to get the first unit a break. Keeping them out there for the full 2 minutes + additional time if they can't immediately get off the ice. Let the 2nd unit start it out, get some experience and feel for the PP. They rarely get more than 20-30 seconds. SO frustrating.

There are serious issues with Mittelstadt. A lot of people had a bad night tonight. So this isn't just a single game comment. But the Avs might have to see what they can do to see if they can make a move that works for another center. He looked really good last season, after the trade. But he's having a very bad year and things seem to be getting worse with him. On the other hand what the front office did to get Blackwood has turned out to be one of the greatest moves. That move is giving the Avs a real shot at wins and anytime your goalie can steal you a win, is huge.

Blackwood was the backbone of the game for the avs for sure, but LOC was the hero that decided to win the game. The effort from him in the scoring sequence was a "fine, I'll do myself" moment

Crazy that they’re better 6 on 5 than 5 on 4. Crazy year much like last year…. As far as Mackinnon, I think the numbers are lying, he’s not playing any where near as good as he has in recent years, Cale is making a lot of mistakes. And I thought the line choices from last night were awful.. with Big Val missing (the most underrated player) it’s tough to make lines but you gotta keep Mac, Mikko, and either Druin or Colton on top line…. High Props to LOC!!!

The AVS have got to stop dragging for 50 minutes and only playing for 10. We have to get a full 60 out of them. @shaggyvondoom I completely agree. I genuinely do not stress anymore with Blackwood in net. My cortisol levels have finally mellowed out😂😂. I am so sorry for the Mackinnon supporters, but #7, Devon Toews should be our next captain. Talk about a leader. I am so happy Blackwood is now apart of our history. He is just mind-blowing out there... Sound check (for our power play).... Papa Roach... Last Resort 😢😢

We’ve gone completely the other way, now it’s the goaltending that is saving the Avs! Blackwood is set it and forget it 2 goals 95% of the time, but I agree that was by far the worst game for the whole team at the exception of a few players,,, PS for gods sake spilt Mac and Cale on PP and SHOOT THE PUCK!

mmm id say 98% , he let up 3 twice and those were empty netters ,they showed on the rangers broadcast (puke) we went from 17th in the nhl for GAA to tied for 2nd thats insane has to be a record in such short time too ,and yea pp is betond god awful 0-18 i think with 3 shots even vs NYR we got one shit at the end of that 3rd pp and it was a nothing ball

I'm not prepared to deal Mitts yet, but finding a veteran center like gourde or ROR who can play 2c while mitts gets his shitts together may be necessary. I'm not prepared to believe we're in the same boat as last year 😢

It's been a while, but I have to say my sound check has to be "Shambles" by of course Band-Maid, because that's how I feel about the team outside of the goalie tandem, top line, top pairing and OC. Avs are such a great team with amazing talent, but we are just out of sync.

Isn’t it wild that we’re complaining about the players…and the goalies aren’t mentioned once?! Instead we have goalies that can actually steal us some games. That’s what you need from a goalie if you plan on winning the cup. There’s gonna be some bad games, and sometimes you need a bailout from the goalies. And Blackwood and Wedgewood give the Avs that option. That symbiotic relationship is finally there.

I agree with Shaggy that they expect to win, and play lazy because of that, and then when a team surprises them, they can't always pull out the W. (i.e. Blackhawks, Montreal, etc). This explains why they lose to teams that should be fairly easy wins.

Seem have way more “off” nights than anything this year. It’s getting old considering the taken in this team. Bednar job is to coach and MOTIVATE. They never seem too motivated. Minus the first 5 minutes and very last 2 minutes last night. He SHOULD be pissed during the presser and was.

I’m tired of watching Mikko half ass it. He doesn’t hustle for pick and the amount of giveaways he does is crazy. I’m the largest Mikko fan and he has a huge amount of talent, but he needs to be flying rather than standing.

Blackwood was great and has been great since we've acquired him. So why is this team taking it for granted and putting a half-assed effort out there? This game was so sloppy.. it's almost as if lazy passes and turnovers are contagious on this team. Bednar's post game interview pretty much says it all and he knows his players better than most. I think they're overthinking some things like the power play, especially on Makar's gaffe. I feel like things kind of snowballed from there. Just when you think the power play couldn't look any worse, they start giving up shorties. 😄

Mitts needs to sit and watch the game from the Press Box. Even his demotion to the 4th line a couple weeks ago, lit a fire under him. Coaching needs to do something to help him get his head straight. The Powerplay needs a kick in the ass! LOC was a complete Honey Badger on that OT shift💪💪Is it just me or watching Igor flop and overreact to any contact on any Ranger game i see.............he's a Diver/Floppper and is allowed to get away with it for several seasons now🤔

I was one to be pissed off at mitts but looking at that play that was a horrible pass. Effort was at start and during the 6 on 5. Rest was lazy play. You cannot watch that and say the top players put effort that game. LOC put in effort to get the goal. Mackinnon dispite getting points is too reliant on lazy passes which bite us. Not sure if hes just dealing with some exhaustion carrying this team for the good portion of the season.

Blackwood was the human highlight reel all game. I fell asleep because the team was playing soooo bad. I woke up during the third period and it was still pretty snooze-worthy until they pulled Blackwood. That would have been like 6 against on Georgiev, easily. So many uncontested shots in close from right in the slot.

Avs are terrible at FO. MAC is the worst. Love MAC but at times he tries passes that have no chance and then give the other team breaks. You can say they play hard but I would disagree. We spend way to much time in our zone and need to have more grit

A win is definitely a win, but a win doesn't always mean they played well and they really didn't in this game. Listen to Bednar and Toews post game comments and they seem to agree
