I think that contrasting sound has been ingrained in us ever since Chet and Jerry.. Certainly has for me

When Chet and Jerry played together acoustically they both played nylon string guitars. Sometimes they both played electric guitars and sometimes Chet played an electric guitar while Jerry played a nylon string guitar. I never heard them play together when one of them played nylon strings and the other played steel strings. I have heard Chet play steel string guitars in his solo performances.

Agreed.. naturally, I was referring to the contrast between Chet's 'electric' steel strings & Jerry's nylon.. The difference between Chet's staccato style and Jerry's rubbery feel was stark..
