Just a couple of issues. I disliked the first officer from the outset when she said, "Your ship?" To the Captain. Probably a result of writers not understanding anything about military culture. That was a direct assault on the authority of the ship's captain. She should have been taken down a notch immediately.

I think that each member of the cast in this production each deserve a commendation for meritorious performance noted in their file. Also, the exterior shots and effects are just freaking GORGEOUS. They even have the shields that are tight against the hull instead the bubble type that was used in the 90s and earlier shows.

WOW!!!! That may be the best Star Trek I've seen in decades. I was thinking that just before the credits rolled. Then I saw Vic Mignogna was involved and saw part of why. I'd really enjoyed Star Trek Continues, and that (along with Axanar and the rest of the Avalon Universe shows) had been REAL Star Trek for me, not the corporate stuff of the last 15 years or so. Wow though. That was visually beautiful, acted superbly, and riveting and heartbreaking. The final information about the Cherokee and it's part in the failed peace mission were, to use a phrase that is entirely appropriate, "Fascinating". THANK YOU for keeping the true Spirit of Star Trek alive!!!!!

It's so good that it would have been fitting to be shown in Star Trek: Short Treks, like how it should have actually been done to expand the Trek universe. I don't know how you are able to screw up an anthology series, but these types of films, done by FANS, are miles better than what we gotten from that.

Fantastic story line. And having been an ex Marine. This is how the military does things they want kept secret. My father wasn't the Bay of Pigs in Cuba. And he remembers the CIA coming on board to tell them , that if anyone talks, they'll make sure they disappear. So my father never told us anything till he was nearly seventy. The CIA scared him that bad. And he was a golden glove boxer and was a Bandito, till he left them when he was still young to make sure me and my brother were raised right. He wasn't scared of anything. But the CIA sure did the trick.

War is hell; even when it's a cold one! ... And casualties are incurred no less costly and tragically. Such is the nature of sentient conflict. Unofficially, the crew of the U.S.S. Cherokee died in the line of duty; having given their full measure, in service to the Federation. . . . This was certainly an unexpected ending to an unexpected chain of events. It was a fast-pacing episode, and certainly heartbreaking, but a ground breaking episode for the folks at Avalon and Neutral. I feel like mourning. Congratulations. 💔

I could not agree more with everything you said. Especially about feeling like mourning. What impressed me is how quickly this story got me to care about characters I'd never seen before with no hint of the fate of the Cherokee and those who serve aboard her. So when I rewatch this and I have several times already, one is very quickly struck by the tragedy to come and the feeling the ending creates does not lessen. If this had been a web series like the glorious Star Trek Continues, we could have gotten to see a very fine crew and gone on awesome adventures with them. First Officer Karinski was definitely captain material. As much as I'd love to see a web series with the Starship Cherokee, not getting to see their five year mission only makes this story all the more powerful.

WOW! I'm shocked! By the events, by the tense and intense final, by the script, acting, and special effects - for some I did instant replays to properly appreciate them. I love the almost silent space scenes, which also gave us expectancy, well done! The captain's duality when treated with considerateness was also very well played. The first officer's immediate responses after the captain's escape are all I wanted to see from every captain or captain in charge! Brilliant! This episode was better than several TOS ones, and it's still echoing inside me. This is what I can articulate by now, beyond this I'm speechless.

I love this fan film! The acting was superb, and even the banter was pulled off naturally and didn't feel awkward like it can do with some fan films. The actors and production crew are amazing, this could have been filmed as a parallel series to TOS, it's that good! SPOILER: I was starting to really like the characters and now you've killed them off. Do I laugh or cry? Please bring them back. ST rarely has a sad ending, so that was a most unexpected twist. There's a lot to take in as the story telling, sets, CGI, costumes, acting, etc, is so polished, then the bombshell at the end! Wow! Congratulations Avalon Universe, this was an incredible production. (I'm cautious about saying it was a truly professional production in case CBS raise their eyebrows!)

Professionalism, intelligence, and excellence among the officers and crew, respect for regulations and chain of command and yet an understanding that these structures exist to serve a higher purpose which must take priority, and a desire for peace and aversion to violence that speaks of a profound respect for all life. And yet, when there is no other choice, they are willing to grit their teeth and do what must be done to save innocent lives even at the cost of their own. This is what heroism looks like. Great acting and great story! But the epilogue got me to thinking about something Picard said. Picard said "The first duty of every Starfleet officer is to the truth, whether it's scientific truth or historical truth or personal truth! It is the guiding principle on which Starfleet is based. And if you can't find it within yourself to stand up and tell the truth about what happened, you don't deserve to wear that uniform!". The coverup of the ultimate sacrifice of the USS Cherokee goes against the "truth"! Star Fleet said it was to prevent a war, but was it really to cover up the "embarrassment" of Star Fleet being tricked by the Romulans? OK, enough "theory crafting"! Well done everyone!!!

Ah, I remember Picard saying that and in others moments telling the hard truth. My own comment touched on the same issue though from the "It is harder to lie then tell the truth" approach. No lie is perfect and can be felt so it is eventually uncovered. Then, by that time the damage can be even worse. This was a good film and I hope they do more.

What a fantastic film! The sets were insanely good and could have been taken straight from the original series. This grounded the film as it was immediately familiar. The tone was exactly how I remembered the OS, how they used to switch from levity to serious in a beat. Some people enjoy them and some don't and that's ok. But, I enjoy the fan films which stick to the canon we established during the TOS era and I'm glad someone is expanding on it once again.
