Gaz, You could get more potatoes if you earth them up. :) In the bucket, put a couple of inches of soil, then the sprouted potatoes and then fill only a 3rd of the bucket with soil. When you start to see leaves growing, cover the plants again and top it up with soil by a couple of inches every time. Do this until the bucket is full with soil. It gives the plant more chance of growing more roots as the stem under the soil will be much longer, resulting in more potatoes. Hope this helps! :)

This sounds like a great idea . What time of the year do you plant them in the buckets. Is it same as planting them outside or later as they have more protection in the buckets. Thank you. Greetings from Ireland. 😀😀☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️

@@catherineogrady8773 Will depend on your climate. Potatoes don't like frost or 30C reduce root formation. Basically, they need lots of light for all those leaves, and once they flower, you need to up the water as this is when the potatoes are growing quicker. Insufficient water leads to smaller and fewer potatoes. Water deeply in the mornings, about 1/2-1 inches 1-2x/week. Better to water into ground, rather than hosing and getting foliage wet regularly. Keep the soil moist, rich and airy, with lots of compost. Add liquid fertilizer every 2-3 weeks. As suggested, keep adding compost rich soil. Remember potatoes originated in the Andes in Peru.

A trick to getting more out of your veggie beds. with things like spring onion and leeks, instead of harvesting the whole plant, you can cut them off about 5cm above the soil and they will regrow. I've not bought any spring onions for years now. You can also do that with store bough leek and spring onion. Leave at least 5cm above the roots, place in water and watch the roots re grow. then plant in soil and keep harvesting as mentioned! Happy growing!

I’ve never even for a split second regretted that I clicked on any of your videos, just true delight, always. Kudos on getting into growing veg, you’ll see how rewarding it is -quick tip on potatoes, look up the “hilling up”, it’s double if not triple your harvest. I grow mine in 20 gal felt bags and I barely cover them with soil at the time of planting, and add as they grow. They continue to form spuds around the stem if it’s in the soil, real easy and so very rewarding. Awesome job again, thanks for being you 😊

I'm of Slovenian heritage and I must say that we make lots of gnocchi. We eat it with our goulash or we boil them and then drizzle (-when I was carnivorous- bacon and butter) with vegan butter and bacon bits. If there was any leftover (this hardly happened in my household)-the next day we would fry them up with butter and caramelized onions sprinkled with a heavy dose of freshly ground black pepper and paprika. Have you ever tasted or made pumpkin gnocchi? If you have,I'd love to see a segment on that. HAPPY CHRISTMAS and a Merry New Year to you, your family and your staff. Cheers !

Lovely video 😍. I have a tip for the saffron; better grind it into small bits (mortor pistol or a small grinder with a touch of sugar)you get more out of the saffron than if you keep them whole. You would have used quarter the amount you used here saving more of the pricey herb 😊. I loved your recipe though and I am inspired to plant my own potatoes 😍

The easiest way to peel cooked potatoes is to leave them alone for a while (until not piping hot but still warm) and then peel them with a dessert knife. Happy Christmas!

1:30 you could have planted half of the potatoes, cut each potato into pieces because all you really needed to plant is a chunk of potato and the eye. Cut each piece and let it air dry overnight and then plant, sweet potatoes you just twist off each eye and go straight to the dirt.

Small tip for people looking for that ‘weight’. I use regular old bricks. I gave my favorite 4 bricks (various sizes) a quick spray with the garden hose to knock off main dirt, but then put them thru the dishwasher. Instead of buying expensive baking weights, it’s a cheap alternative. Plus bricks come in many different sizes weights and shapes.
