Solution to the #1 problem: Go to a college far enough away that it would be extremely hard to go home. For example, you wouldn’t want to have to fly home from a college all the way across the country because it takes too much time and effort, plus it’s expensive.

Comment your username and I’ll add you!” I promise you so many people will answer you. That’s how I made a lot of acquaintances! And then I’ve made friends just adding people on snap bc people post like little introduction posts on the Facebook page. Follow people on insta and add people on snap. Then you’ll see familiar faces in the fall and you can be like oh I think I follow you from the Facebook page!! That’s also how I met my roommate, and as long as you have a roommate you two can always go make friends together!!

I've heard the recommendation to leave high school everything behind a bajillion times and I just don't get it. I'm proud of the things I did in highschool, and I literally (I mean that in the sense of actuality, not emphasis) cannot imagine my life without them. They aren't my friends, they're my family, and I'm not going to leave them behind just to ~~expand my horizons~~ or whatever. Networking is nice and all, but so is the love my friends and I have for each other. I'm sick of feeling like I shouldn't still be talking with them on a daily basis just because we aren't in highschool anymore.
@avaresio734 жыл бұрын
Theo Wild i definitely understand this as i had a really difficult time with this too! I dont think i really explained myself well in that tip, and what i really meant to say is that you shouldnt be skipping out on opportunities in college to sit in your room for hours talking to your home friends. Its definitely okay to keep talking to them and stay in touch, and you can expand your horizons while still maintaining a close relationship with them! It takes a balance that was definitely difficult for me to learn, but i think by *slightly* loosening my attachment helped me breathe a little bit and made the adjustment a lot easier in the long run

Idk bout that last tip. On campus tuition is on average about 40k on top of normal tuition. Numbers are higher if you aren’t a resident of the state. Living back home is definitely more financially manageable than being that much in debt
@avaresio734 жыл бұрын
My last tip wasn’t in regard to whether one should live on campus or not- it was in regard to students who are already living on campus. Its without a doubt that it’s cheaper to live at home, but for on-campus students my #1 recommendation is to not go home because it makes the adjustment more difficult
@williamgiron31864 жыл бұрын
Oh wow I did not expect such a quick response. Sorry if I came off a bit bitchy. But yeah I been wanting to go to an out of state institution for the longest time ever and have the grades to do so. But I was disheartened after learning the cost of boarding and out of state tuition. How did you manage?
@avaresio734 жыл бұрын
William Giron Im very fortunate that I got a lot of scholarships and am In-state so my parents were able to cover the majority of my tuition- honestly if you want to go out of state the best thing you can do is try to get an Honors scholarship if your school offers it and try to get tons of local scholarships that organizations near you offer!
@williamgiron31864 жыл бұрын
Alyssa Varesio thanks for the info! Thankfully, my state university is pretty good (Arizona State University) and my family is willing to help. The “not going home” part is a 50/50 cuz some people need to take care of their pets and stuff cuz the family aren’t doing enough. Your pet is alone for all that time you are away and they are not getting the attention they would need. So I think it is worth to come visit your beloved pets as much as possible and keep things in check in the household.

Amanda C. Definitely consider it as an option! You have plenty of time to think about it though

Hey do u have advice for those who plan to do homestay and what to expect
@avaresio734 жыл бұрын
it definitely depends on where you are, but when I studied abroad I did a homestay and the most important thing I did was to not text and call my family and friends from home every second of the day, I really tried to get close with my host family and people in the community around me and throw myself into the culture! it was hard at first but because i pushed myself it became easier a lot quicker
