I really felt for Aang and Zuko this episode... With Aang, Gyatso said that normally Avatars would be told they're the Avatar at the age of 16, and I believe that's a very important detail to keep in mind. Because at least before they turned 16, they would've at least had a childhood and had time to grow and mature. That wasn't the case for Aang. He wasn't ready to take on such heavy burdens and responsibilities and at his age, he was naturally overwhelmed, scared, and confused. What's sad is that he thought he was alone in all of this when he really wasn't. With Zuko, his story is just messed up. He's only a teenager and he got burned and banished just because he was kind and cared too deeply for his countrymen.

If you think about it, the Fire Lord gave Zuko an impossible mission with an unachievable goal. There was no sign of the Avatar for almost 100 years when Zuko was banished. So it’s not really a stretch to think the Fire Lord just wanted Zuko out of the way.

Especially since not only did the Fire Nation blitz attack the Air Temples, but they were juiced up by the comet. A non fully trained Avatar wouldn't have stood a chance against that. It sucks that the Air Nomad civilization perished, but even the monks knew that the world is more important than it's individual parts. The Avatar surviving is the bigger picture.

Yeah the things you gotta realize is with Aang, he's a KID. Literally, all the goofiness you might be thinking is weird is actually because he's a kid and the show realizes this rather than trying to make him act grown just because the story's mature. He made a mistake because of that and they told him he was the Avatar early due to stuff happening. Zuko is NOT a villain, as him speaking out of term was due to his moral values that make him good. If anything, it shows that he was punished by a culture that is NOT good. His own father burned his EYE. How can you not know whether or not he deserved it? What do you call someone who's not really a villain but is kinda villainous in a small way? An anti-hero.

Man Rob be tripping sometimes. Yeah its easy to say that you wouldn't have done what Aang did because you're not put in that situation and also as a grown, mature man. Sometimes Rob doesn't take into consideration that maybe a 12 year old, preteen kid, doesn't have the same mindset as he would once he matures. I'm sure Rob, as well as most of us, would probably done the same as Aang when we're 12 years old and given that much responsibility. Aang is a gentle, spirited, 12 year old kid that just wants to be a kid. In the Last Airbender, they wait until the Avatar is 16 years old before they are informed of being the Avatar because that's when they are more mentally mature to take on the responsibility of being the Avatar. Rob has some funny takes and sometimes I agree with some of his points but there are many times where his points are quite cringe-worthy because he expects all protagonists to have that same "Im a real nigga" type mindset regardless of their situation or age. For us, its easy to say that we would do things differently or that we wouldn't cower and run away but when we're put into a very tough situation, often times we wouldn't react the way we think we would. As humans, our first instinct is survival so when we're in a life & death situation, majority would do anything to survive and live another day. There are countless soldiers that believe they would rise up and face death in the face but when they're in that situation, their only focus is survival. Also, every single person that has existed is not perfect in any way. Everybody has made mistakes throughout their lives and will make mistakes in their future. Nobody makes the right decision the first time on every single occasion. What defines a person or even fictional characters is how they grow and learn from the mistakes they've made in their past. It's okay to make mistakes as long as the person uses that as a learning experience to avoid making the same mistake. The wise ones accepts their mistakes, know their shortcomings, flaws and weakness, and uses that to strive to become a better version of themselves. That's how development, progression and growth is established. Only fools believe that they always makes the right choices, devoid of any mistakes and see no faults or shortcomings in themselves. As a result, they see no purpose or have no motivation for growth and improvement.

The title of this episode, "The Storm", is one of many titles that have multiple meanings; this one has at least three. It refers to the actual storm in which the characters get caught, to the reasons for Aang's "stormy" feelings of guilt and shame, and to Zuko's "stormy" history of how and why he was banished.

Aang is 12, and the weight of the world was put on him. Imagine running away from home, being comatose for 100 years, and when you wake up everyone you knew and loved is dead. His people were genocided, but I don't blame him for that happening. What could he have done back then to stop a full scale army invasion? The Fire Nation planned to kill the Air nomads no matter what, Aang's running away actually saved him and the rest of the world! He most likely would have died or been taken into captivity. Things were meant to happen this way. It's like the story of Moses in a way. Remember how the pharaoh was killing all newborn boys to prevent the deliverance of the Hebrew people? Moses' mom sent him down the river to protect him and he ironically ended up in the pharaoh's home being taken in as an orphan. The whole time, newborn boys were STILL being killed in the process to make sure the prophecy wouldn't happen, even though it was already happening. Same with Aang; the genocide of his people continued the whole time, but Aang was safely hidden for 100 years and now that he's awake he can make an actual difference.
