This episode is basically for all the people who think the Avatar State means instant win for Aang. Yes, it grants him immense power, but if he's not in control of it, then he's also extremely vulnerable just in case something goes wrong. Also, I like that the season starts out with _another_ lesson as to why Aang should not be rushing things, even though he is on a timetable. Though this time it was more so because General Fong guilted him rather than recklessness when he tried Firebending. As for Azula...yeah, she's Azula.

It’s not pointed out specifically in the show but also notice Aang doesn’t use powers in the avatar state that he hasn’t learned. The only reason he won the Northern Water Tribe battle is because he merged with the Ocean spirit. People who think he should battle the firelord now don’t realize he’d be fighting him underpowered and with almost no control.

Lightning Queen Azula is finally here, and her "Tides" monologue did such a fantastic job introducing what kind of character she is overall! She has presence and she's someone you shouldn't cross or disappoint. Made me feel so excited for this season because now we had such a frightening foe in play. Zhao and Zuko are like kittens compared to Azula lol. I also get that the General was desperate and wanted to end the war quickly, but this was the wrong way to go about it. How he treated Aang was pretty horrible. He was essentially using and emotionally manipulating a child just to force him into the Avatar State. Aang may be the Avatar but he is not a tool for someone to toy with. Seeing Aang crying like that honestly made me sick.

Regarding the general's point of view i think ur in the wrong aang is not the only child he has to see crying hes a general he gets to see kids when they're informed bout their parent's fate literally for years he doesn't know if he'll see his own family (if he has one) whenever they might go out to fight for their nation,they knew the battle with the fire nation was a lost battle they had to command their men,their friends for suicide missions just so they could defend it for another day while knowing full well most of them have their fate sealed when they step on the battlefield,Now put yourself in his position if u got one last bit of hope of ending a war immediately and not let others die wouldn't u do it?

@@aryanjain7011 Maybe, but you still can't deny how cruel it was on Aang. You don't think he understands what's at stake or even how soldiers fighting in the war feels? Aang already struggles a lot with the guilt of being 100 years late. He understands it all well enough, to the point that he even went along with the General's plan here to forcibly induce the AS. Katara was also right about doing things the right way. Imagine if Aang in this state, without control of it whatsoever, was unleashed. You know what the risk of it is if you die in it. So in a way, all of this was not meant to be. Destiny plays a huge part in ATLA, and this imo was one of those moments. This moment also gave Aang further development later when it came to unlocking his chakras.

For me, it's one thing for Aang to willingly go along with it at first, but then when he later gets emotionally toyed like that (emotionally traumatizing a child no matter how you look at it...again Aang may be the Avatar but he's also still human) because of what the General does to his loved ones, that's completely different. Just because he's doing what he *thinks* is right or for the better doesn't necessarily mean he's in the right. If so, that can be a very dangerous mindset to follow.

Heads up: Azula’s fire is blue, as blue fire burns hotter than orange fire. She is also a lightning bender, which is a very rare and difficult skill to learn. Few people can lightning bend. Azula is the only person that has blue fire though.

Aang being pressured to the Avatar state,makes him feel more guilty and anxious. Although he's not ready to face Ozai,he feels like he needs to go ahead and do so. And this episode just shows how much zuko has been rejected,the look in his eyes when he actually thought he was going home but came to find out his Father and sister was going to lock him and uncle iroh away really shows how much he's been through. And iroh has his back no matter what. He's a better father to him than Ozai was.

Azulas introduction was fire ayyyyye my joke one per episode. The thing about this episode I learned is you can not rush things. Aang was not ready therefore he can not just fight the firelord the task is to learn all FOUR elements and then fight and he barely has water down. This episode shows azula as perfectionist. The lightening training shiiit. It shows sheer skill she is stealthy manipulative and cunning. She knows zuko weakness is he wants to make his father proud. His Achilles heal is honor. And even after zuko snaps on him Iroh is still caring towards him but doesn’t trust azula which is smart. Azula is a liar and disrespectful only looking out for herself and would do anything to prove herself as the best only falling behind her father. That captain slipped up major bro. And general fong plan was so stupid what Spider-Man teach us with great power comes great responsibility what did you think was gonna happen when you did this katara smh. That general is also manipulative showing aang all those soldiers trying to guilt him into that foolish plan. Where would we do without roku? Explaining the glow when aang at his strongest he still at his most vulnerable. Love how they brought back iroh channeling that lightening so crazy. I think this and the storm introduced the side sections to elements being bent. Showing plasma and lava are parts of fire spectrum pay attention for more to be shown. Kinda hurts to see zuko can just flip on iroh at the slightest mention of his father.

Yung Apollo inc Iroh lost everything so he has nothing left but to love life because he has felt the lowest of the lows a person can feel (if you haven’t watched it, you’re in for heartbreak for his story). People think he sticks by Zuko cause he too is exiled and he loves his nephew but it’s so much more deeper than that. A lot of characters are really well developed for this story but the Character development for Iroh and Zuko is one of the best I’ve witnessed in ANY show.

Get ready for a new character in episode 6. Book 2 picks up the pace and does a superb job with character progression and story. Thunder bending are like fire bending higher skill, but only a few people from the royal family can do it. The "bending mud thing" is just bending water/earth, nothing really spacial about it. Other element with higher bending technique will come out in the later episode, but for now, just enjoy.

She's a broken kid who wants love but has no idea how to acquire it other than through fear, blackmail and manipulation and see perfection and her "talent" and ruthlessness as the only thing that ever got her even a smidgen of approval from her own family (through her father and grandfather who are both fucked up monsters).

In the very first episode, Katara's given the spirit water, Azula's shown lightning bending, and we learn the cycle's broken if you die in the Avatar state. All three of these things come into massive play in the season 2 finale, and I think it's pretty cool they were hinted at like this.

As much as I want to hate on the Earth bending General I really can’t. I mean thousands of of Earthbending soldiers are dead or becoming injured in battle every day. The southern water tribe was almost completely destroyed, and the Air bending nation was mass genocide by the fire nation. Can u really blame the General for wanting to end the war quickly?
