Some really good pick ups from both Spartan and Pudgey this episode. Spartan immediately recognizing the pregnant woman from Zuko Alone, and Pudgey noticing the Yue symbolism and how much it was affecting Sokka. As an aside little bit of input, I think the reason why Katara didn't build an ice bridge all the way across is because it could have broken apart from the water current and less stable support structure. While they were using the underwater bubble, they travelled most of the way to the other side before being attacked by the serpent. Katara was easily able to connect the rock pillar Toph made with the mountain side just ahead, because it was a much shorter distance for a much more stable bridge.
@Doc0281 Жыл бұрын
To add to your point, I think it also was to be more stealthy. They were just attacked by a fire nation ship right before they reached the water passage, and going underneath it was a way safer method than making an easily visible ice bridge that would just tell the fire nation that a waterbender is right there. But after the serpent attacks the situation changes and the serpent is drawing a ton more attention than an ice bridge ever could, and the bridge frees Katara up to fight the serpent as well, instead of having to maintain the bubble.
@Avatar-Destiny Жыл бұрын
Aside from that, Toph can't see on it and ice is slippery. Putting a highly pregnant woman who's already wobbly on an ice path wouldn't be my first option either. Actually, putting people on ice to travel in general wouldn't be my first option

Just to clear the point on Jet saying he "knew" who Zuko was, he was implying that Zuko was hurt by the Fire Nation (cos of his burn scar) so he relates to Zuko in that way and not that he knew his identity!

Omg, Spartan in the intro saying, "Book 2 has not failed to dissapoint", and Pudgey shaking her head at Spartans sentence had me cracking up! XD
@liprekt Жыл бұрын
Yeah, Jet doesn't know Zuko is Zuko -- he just knows the Fire Nation did him wrong somehow due to his burn, hence he's "an outcast" like him. Also, I really liked 'Hope' as a unique name in this world, given that we have characters named Katara, Sokka, Aang, Iroh, Zuko, Toph, Azula, Ozai, etc. I've watched a number of reactions to this episode and a couple others chuckled when they revealed the name Hope as something unique, completely forgetting the _usual_ names for people in the world of ATLA.
@TheMrPeteChannel Жыл бұрын
Originally she was going to get the Chinese name for hope but Bryke knew that would be lost on western ears. When a person haves a western name in this show like Jet, Hope, Tom Tom, June or the obvious Smellerbee it's supposed to be an " unusual or unique " name. It's like 2 white American parents naming their baby Li Chan Smith. Impressive that you knew that was Suki. If you noticed her season 2 👀 eyes are bigger than her season 1 eyes. That & no makeup.
@KelappanKing Жыл бұрын
Yeah - they got every take and reference correct except the Zuko and Jet one 😂. Still impressive though; most reactors don't pick up on the pregnant lady from Zuko Alone!

@DrekeXorn13 Жыл бұрын
No you guys misunderstood, Jet saying 'I knew who you were' it's not that he knew Zuko specifically, he was saying he understood Zuko was an outcast because of the firebender scar on his face. He thought Zuko had also undergone a tragedy caused by the Fire Nation. Thats why Zuko was alarmed for a second until Jet continued talking and it was clear Jet didn't mean he knew who Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation was
@KelappanKing Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was surprised they misread that. They're better than most other reactors at catching most things. Ironically, those same other reactors understood the Jet/Zuko dynamic perfectly while missing everything else.

there is a theory that Yue was meant to be the next waterbending Avatar and that was why she was born with no spirit because Ang had been taken out of the cycle but was still alive, that was how she was able to contain a portion of the Moon spirit and eventually merge with the moon spirit.

One bit of information, the sea serpent is actually a reused asset from the unaired pilot episode of Avatar that...well there's an episode in season 3 that highlights the one major difference in the character of Aang, not saying what it is but it's sort of funny retrospectively.
@AnthonyAvouris Жыл бұрын
At 4:01, I don't disagree with what you're saying, because I think you're right. I would like to point out, though, that it's not just Sokka heading to safety and Toph following because she's "more tomboy-ish". Sokka took Toph's hand or arm and was leading her away, because Toph's never really experienced Aang like that before, and her senses are very limited at that moment. To play into what you're saying about the differences that gender plays here, Sokka is doing a man's job and looking out for those in his care. And now that you've seen the whole show, I don't mind pointing out that one of the things that is consistent throughout the show is that Sokka is looking out for Toph. Not because she *needs* looking after--her independence is a large part of her character--but because he cares for her and wants her to be safe. She holds onto him while riding Appa, and he shields her with his own body a couple times, like he does for Katara and Suki as well (probably Aang too). Just wanted to mention it on the off-chance you see it! I've been loving watching your reactions so far!

It’s amazing that you caut both major things i love for someone to catch in this episode and which almost nobody ever does: that the man and his pregnant wife were who Zuko almost robbed in Zuko Alone (they actually appear a few times thruout the show), and that the moon was literally between Sokka & Yue from the perspective of the near-kiss shot. I actually missed both of those details my first time thru this show, as most people do. So great job!!

The Fire Nation was concealing the work and movements of the drill. That's why they had to be careful crossing the water into Ba Sing Se. Also, it's why Katara and Aang tried to travel under the water rather than create a ice path. Hell, Toph could've created a stone path across in seconds. But, all those things might have drawn attention to them. The group could handle their own against the Fire Nation, but they are trying to transport and protect a very pregnant woman and her husband.
