I've seen so many ATLA reactions, after watching it 100 times myself. That scene never fails to stop, even the most talkative reactor, in their tracks. And a lot of times they give a "Damn..." Like as if they're saying a serious. "respect" or something. Idk good writing, great score/lyrics, rip Mako.

i don't wanna sound unsensitive here but why does everybody think the Iroh scene is so sad? i mean we barely even knew lu ten. For me for example seeing Aang so devestated after loosing appa or loosing other airbenders is more sad than that. After all Lu Ten was fighting in a cruel war and as i said we never really even met him. Is it the song which makes you guys sad or what? Please tell me because i feel like i don't have a heart when everybody keeps saying they cry everytime they see that scene. I mean I usually cry about everything while watching movies and shows but somehow i don't cry watching that scene 😅 what is wrong with meeee

sarah s I don’t know about everyone else but to me it’s sad cause that scene was dedicated to the voice actor of Iroh which had just passed away from cancer.
@bw1170
@bw1170 5 жыл бұрын
sarah s Have you ever grieved? Grief isn't logical. You don't look at someone and say, oh they were in a dangerous situation so it is less sad that they died. Grief is all compassion. How do you think it would feel to lose the person you loved more than anyone else in the world? Gone forever. Anyone that has lost someone close to them, who love and can empathize with Iroh would be sad at that scene.

Quite impressive that an episode with no real bearing on the overall plot and that doesn't really progress the storyline can still be widely considered one of the series' best, just because of how attached we are to the characters themselves, and how enjoyable it is just to watch them. And it does make sense that the last story would be the one with Momo, but for spoiler-y reasons I'll hold off on why.

Most of the lines in this Book are still Mako's job guys, only a few lines that were recorded after his passing. His voice still shows up now and then, but chronologically the "Leaves from the Vine" song was the last tad of voice acting he recorded before his death, which was why they put his In Memoriam there. This is a lovely episode, but that Iroh scene is by far the best.

If you didn't remember from a previous episode. When Iroh lost his son he basically went into depression, when he was close to conquering Ba Sing Se which basically said he was a poor general which he wasn't. This also allowed for Ozai to take the throne as many people saw Iroh as weak. Iroh is by far the best character of the series because he's not really evil at all.
@RabbitShirak

I joined the Navy 7 years ago when I was 18, as a Corpsman, Last deployment, I downloaded a lot of shows onto my laptop as we cant get internet or cable while we are stationed away from the U.S. I saw friends die, and learned while deployed that my little brother who joined the Marines the same time I did died. I was unable to process this for a long time, then one day while I was in my rack on my laptop I worked my way through to this episode , and I broke down. For the first time in years I was able to cry for him. when no one was looking and it was only me, watching a cartoon I had watched a long time ago. Thank you

LOL that's what I think everyone says - that Iroh's tale should've been last...though, I still love the last scene for reasons. Apparently, there was supposed to be an episode completely dedicated to Iroh's backstory but that was scrapped. Kind of wished we had more Iroh episodes, but I guess this was enough. God, I really do love Iroh's tale though! It makes you wonder if the reason he's always so kind and helpful to others is because he wasn't able to help his own son? :( "Leaves from the vine" also just killed me! At first it was such a happy song used to cheer up a crying boy ...and then it turned into a tragic sad song dedicated to his son on his birthday. The mood just 180 real quick, ya know? Also, if you were wondering what the writing on the picture said, it roughly translated to: "To General Iroh: See you after we win the War. Your loyal son, Lu Ten" And Greg Baldwin (Iroh's replacement) is not Mako's brother, but he is his understudy and a long-time student of his voice. Rest in peace, Mako Iwamatsu...You're still greatly missed

Notice how the entire iroh ending they were in silence cause each one of them was having a serious moment and in those tragic moments we see who we rly are and just as sad as it is, the effect it has its truly beautiful, a mass of drawn lines and paint make the realist experiences we all share

Iroh's spot is probably where his son died, or a tree in the battlefield. Because why else would he go there? If not that, it was maybe the last place they saw each other.
@SaveMeMoon
@SaveMeMoon 4 жыл бұрын
In the flashbacks when they're playing together they're by a tree in the Fire Nation that looks very similar to that place, and Ba Sing Se is an important place to Iroh, so it might just be that that tree reminds him of his son and he wants a place to remember his son in what could be his new forever home.

Is Eric confusing Mako and Iroh with Monty and RWBY with Ren? Mako's brother didn't start doing Iroh did he? or is this something I've just never heard about?

Mako actually died *after* he'd recorded all the lines for Season (Book, whatever) 2. So, that was Mako you were hearing all throughout this episode, and you will be hearing for the rest of the season. Also, it wasn't Mako's brother that took over for him in Season 3, it was Greg Baldwin.

There is one or two lines in Tales of Ba Sing Se that were recorded by Greg Baldwin instead of Mako, it was right after the kids kicked the ball into the window.

Yeah Iroh's story is definitely the agreed-upon best part of this episode although I always enjoy all of this episode. Also you will be happy to know that almost all fans agree that Iroh's story should've gone last because it would be better as an ending. The final scene of his is in my opinion the best emotional thing in the entire series because it's the only thing that consistently makes me emotional mostly because of how much music affects me more than other things. I also agree with you guys that it's great how this explained his willingness and want to help people. Also the sendoff for Mako got more sad for me once I learned more about him and what a great actor he was.

I just found this video after having super avatar nostalgia. I'm so glad people still watch and talk about it. and the fandom's still alive. Inspired me to re watch it again, even though I know it's going to be such an emotional rollercoaster that I may regret at parts (especially the Leaves from the Vine part)

If someone asked me which episode of ATLA best showcased why a character is the way they are, I'd point them to Iroh's segment of this episode. The way I see it, Iroh cherishes life and encourages the good in others because he had a piece of him taken away, obviously the loss of a child will drastically change a person. In this case Iroh becomes an individual that tries his best to not let others feel the level of pain he experienced by helping and guiding them towards a positive outcome, but at the same time the damage shows and he knows that he's never going to be able to help the person he truly wants to, resulting in a man that is both broken and made stronger through his ideals and the actions he takes to protect the loved ones he has left.
