I always thought it was the mark of some serious writing chops that Zuko came so close to "redemption" in season 2 but ultimately slid back to his old ways at the moment of truth. It would've been so easy to give the fans what they probably wanted and have him join the good guys right then and there, but Zuko's arc in the long run is so much greater and more impactful because of his regression here. Despite all the time Iroh spent trying to free Zuko and convince him to find his own path, him choosing "wrong" here gave him the chance to make those discoveries *himself* in season 3, and made his growth as a character that much more meaningful.

Fun fact: Toph was originally supposed to be a buff teenage boy Sokka’s age with the stereotypical dumb jock personality, but the creators decided to change her to how she is now, which was definitely a good choice. There’s also a theory that the earthbender in the intro was her original design

In my opinion Avatar only gets better as the books go along. That being said book 2 is probably my favourite, Zuko and Iroh’s dynamic is glorious and Azula is an amazing character

Book 3 reaches higher highs, but I think 2 is more consistently good. The Ba Sing Se arc is an unbroken string of amazing episodes, one after the other. I don't think the franchise ever manages such a long, unbroken streak of absolute classics that all tell one long, cohesive mini-story ever again (the back half of season 3 of Avatar is consistently excellent too, but it doesn't have the same sense of all telling one single story.)

Yeah but that didn’t happened. He didn’t get spoiled. I was there for the livestream and everybody told him “No way that can happen! That’s too creepy! Not in a kid’s cartoon”. He just guessed that it should be possibility for waterbending. Because yeah the human body is full of liquid and water. It’s not pure water but it’s there. Just like bending metal it full of minerals by the earth.

Technically the guru was right, he couldn't go into the avatar state UNTIL he opened the final chakra, so even in a particularly tense moment where it would normally activate it wouldn't. He had no access to the avatar state until he completes opening all the chakras.

I remember watching S1 of Avatar and absolutely loving it. Then I saw Season 2 and was absolutely blown away. The introduction of Azula, Toph, the dark side of the Earth Kingdom, Jet's return, Azula overthrowing, the dark finale. It was on another level. And I love this show so much.

Also, fan theory on Ty Lee, her features don't really fit in with how other Fire Nation citizen's look, her facial structure looks more like Aang's then anyone else, leading to the theory that she's got some Air Nomad ancestry.

I know people say the phrase "aged like fine wine" a lot and I'm still not sure this is best use of it, but it's so incredible how this show only impresses me the older I get. Not only am I appreciating the writing, but the ideas that are still unique and just comparing it to so many other shows that are similar yet don't even come close to pulling off their story as well as this does. Hell, now that I think about it, that includes the spin-off media as well. I've watched it three times, enjoying it more than the last and now seeing Roger go through it and enjoy it despite years of hype and the lack of nostalgia just feels so validating.

I like how Zuko commanding the heavens to strike him with lightning plays out. He asks because "you've never held back before". In his eyes, the world has always been against him, so why would they stop now? But in reality the world is indifferent, and this is the 1st time he sees it and perhaps the 1st time he thinks that his family might be at fault rather than him being punished by the world. Keep in mind that he was told that he was lucky to be born, so it makes sense that he sees all his misfortune as a cosmic joke at his expense. He has to unlearn those negative beliefs and learn selflove through true humility, only than will he be able to blossom to who he is meant to be.

I know I’m going to get some hate for this, and I admit I’m a bit nervous to say it, but I’ll be brave and say it anyway. Toph is a better written blind character than Komugi. I’m visually impaired, and I grew up with people who are blind or visually impaired. Even my parents and my mom’s parents have or had some degree of blindness. I know I’ve said something about playing video games, and I’ve made some comments about whatever the latest One Piece chapter was at the time. Truth is, I used to have enough vision to play games and know what images are in children’s books clearly. I was never into comics. I still had some visual problems, but it wasn’t too bad. I started either reading in Braille or listening to audiobooks right around the 3rd grade. Then, right around the end of 2017, I may have started to lose some of my vision, and it got to the point where I couldn’t play video games anymore. Until they come out with some accessible way for people who are blind or visually impaired to play video games or read comics, I feel like the only way to experience them is through livestreams, videos, and wikis. I really want to play Smash Bros or FFXIV with Roger one day. Anyway, back to Avatar. So many blind characters in media are portrayed as helpless, weak, or stupid. If not, they get pitied or treated like a baby. Toph is not the case. Sure, she’s rude, but she’s not helpless or stupid. She’s a very powerful earthbender. The reason why I think she’s a better blind character than Komugi is because, and this will contain Hunter X Hunter spoilers, Toph is a headstrong fighter, whereas all Komugi did was play a board game. Komugi, to me, was no more than a plot device for Meruem’s development. Toph is street smart, whereas the only intelligent moments Komugi had were while playing Gungi. Toph at least knows how to clean herself, but chooses not to. Komugi just doesn’t know how. I’m sorry, but if you’re over the age of 10, and you don’t know how to blow your nose, regardless of ability or disability, GET OUT! Toph is capable of standing up for herself. Komugi is weak and frail. I’m sorry, but I didn’t cry at Komugi’s death. I do apologize for the super long comment and for the Komugi shade. I don’t hate Komugi, I just wanted to get my point across.

About Appa being the winner in the Air category, you don't even have to call it bending the rules. Flying Bisons ARE airbenders. Appa flies with natural born airbending spiritual capabilities. Just like how the dragons taught firebending to the ones who became the first firebenders, and the giant moles taught earthbending to those who became the first earthbenders (and to Toph in recent times), fying bisons (Appa's species) were the ones who taught airbending to humans.

Man Avatar was such a journey like ten years ago. I’m 23 currently, I remember a lot of the great moments and even rewatch a lot of the moments from back then. Zuko and his uncle was awesome, Toph, Saka, Katana and Aang was awesome to. The friendship, the struggles, Avatar was honestly one of my favorites growing up and still is because the story is that good. Also cabbage guy was awesome. Wasn’t the biggest fan of Legend of Korra tho, but it was something I watched all the way through and still enjoyed it for the some parts, not all tho.

I know you were excited but how did you not realize that Aang literally died when Azula shot her lightning at his back. In the episode the "Avatar State" Roku said if you died in that state the cycle will break and instead of Aang being the last airbender he will become the last Avatar. Katara brought him back to life because of the spirit water from the Northern water tribe oasis but if Katara used the spirit water on Zuko when they were in the crystal rock prison the reincarnation of the Avatar would've died off with Aang and no one would've been able to stop the fire nation
