I started feeling weird about circuses when I was a kid. I didn’t like the way their faces looked performing. Some liked doing it but most of them just looked so scared and sad 😢. I just wanted them to be free in their home

This episode made alot of people realized why aang was so angry in episode 11 because for airbenders a sky bisons are like family or apart of themselves. Appa is Literally the only thing that's keeping him from going crazy in the world without air benders.😢

While I agree and understand why he was angry, I think the issue is him taking it out on the people close to him. Which is a human trait that many of us are guilty of, but it doesn't make it any easier to see. Especially towards Katara who was trying her best to take care of everything and keep everyone together.

@@itsmylesfr the saddest thing to me is that if any other airbender was in aang shoes they would Respond the same way hell avatar yangchen when losing her bison was so full of rage that she threatened the woman who killed her bison that she will make her child motherless.

Oof seeing how you guys adored Appa, knew this part was going to be hard for you. Even when Appa is away, he's saving the gang. The sand sailboat he destroyed ended up being uncovered by the gang, saving them in that desert.

It was very nice to see Appa have his own dedicated episode in the show after his time away. This and the Tale of Momo from the last episode really show that those two aren't just pets are mascots of the show, but important members of the team and realized characters in their own right. Appa has always been a symbol of strength for the group. Whenever things look bleak he will carry them upon his back to safety or when they are backed into the corner he will step in and blast away the enemy with his tails. Seeing what we've known as such a mighty and majestic animal being made to feel powerless and vulnerable is a hard watch.

The bond between airbenders and their sky bison is very strong, though interesting how they choose to bond with them despite their philosophy of detachment. Because their bison are a huge attachment, but it is hard to not to want to form a bond with them.

Yeah that episode really hurts... This episode also introduced us to Guru Pathik, who will play a larger role in a few more episodes. Here, though, it took some time for Appa to learn to trust the mysterious sage, as shown through an amusing days-long montage with Pathik patiently waiting for Appa to calm himself. After Appa's encounters with sandbenders, merchants and circus trainers, Pathik wisely surmised, "Fear has moved in where trust should be." - It is not easy to forgive. But sometimes we have to. Not if.. but because someone didn't deserve it. That's why it is a sacrifice, to grow as a character. Also forgive yourself. Let it go.. But this time for someones sake, Suki paid the price.

Now you now how much LOVE Aang has for appa. And how much LOVE appa has for Aang. Why Aang was so angry. This episode showed some much cruelty toward animals but also how much love people have for animals. Suki knew appa wanted to protect her but she knew he had to leave. So she scared appa so he’d leave. She was trying to protect him. Only an episode or more until the reunite.

This is one of the hardest episodes to watch if you have a big heart for animals. Appa’s whole journey was full of trouble and heartache, just him being able to travel back to the exact location where he was kidnapped hours possibly days after the fact hoping the GAang would be there waiting was very sad. Appa saw the mushroom cloud created from Aang’s anger but couldn’t reach out before succumbing to the tranquilizers. At least the Sand Sailer that Appa hit was found later by the group to help the kids escape the desert. I also thought the boar Appa fought had an interesting design, a mix between a boar and a porcupine. Since boars already posses sharp and stiff bristles for hair but could now release said bristles like quills. (ouch)

Yeah remember when the son acused them of stealing the sand sailer. He actually stole it himself. Now that is such a asshole level that it becomes funny. Now he did basically cause all this to Appa and beyond really getting the scare of his life he didn't really get any more punishment since the only other option at the time would have been straight upp murder with even with the context here is still way overkill unless you are Azula or otherwise disturbed. Suki being killed would probably be the better outcome since both Iroh and Zuko consider death to be preferable to Azula. Long Feng now has to ways this happend. Its a bit unclear witch it is but he either captured Appa before the gang met with him and thus his line about not being abel to find Appa reflects that he already has him or if this is after they already met him he just said that and now he really got Appa as a bargening chip. Don't let bethany near animals if she is willing to mass murder fictional characters then those animals aint gonna be far behind. Azula has a kindred spirit here.
