For me the biggest difference between this and the Shyamalan movie is that, whether this adaptation turns out to be great or not, it does at least look like there was a lot of passion put into this. The Shyamalan movie feels like it was made by people who didn't really understand the source material, and didn't show any care to understand it. It really feels like it was made just to sell merchandise. Meanwhile you can at least tell that the people working on this show have put actual effort into bringing the world of Avatar to life to the best of their abilities. You see the care put into recreating the colorful, awe-inspiring locations. You see the work they've put into making the characters both look and, more importantly, feel like their original animated counterparts, making them easily recognizable even to older fans. You see that the show has humor and lighthearted moments to balance out the action and drama. Even the bending itself looks so much smoother, more natural and powerful, rather than the stilted, slow bending of the Shyamalan movie.

The thing is they’ll never be able to please everyone. There were reactors that said the trailer was really good and here you guys said it was “just” an improvement and that it’s only “okay.” For you guys to say that you hope there’s a bit more differences so that it’s not just watching something you already know, but at the same time, you wish it would just be like the animated series and capturing the magic in it. I hope you know that statement will never 100% come true and so you’re just setting yourself up for your own trauma. Take the Netflix LAA as it comes and compare it or not to the animated, if you’re a fan and support this franchise and that you enjoy this universe, just watch and enjoy it. It’s Its not gonna be 100% whatever you like. I can say it’s not 100% for me. But the fact that we’re getting this at all, on this level of greatness, already should be enough to help us shun the movie adaptation.

I love this trailer! Either Azula is such a perfectionist that she can do anything (except being a nice person and a good friend) or archery is a part of the Royal Academy for Girls training. June and Jet are bad***. Hei Bai looks like it’s not to be messed with. If Hei Bai looks like it, I definitely don’t want to see what Koh looks like. I love Sokka’s humor. I love that they put the little detail of Aang crashing into the statue from the intro. This Ozai is the “oh no he’s hot” Squidward meme.

Yeah, she´s training. If you slow down that shot, you can see she´s in a line of archers, who are all wearing the same, and shooting at the same time.

I think she'll be the one leading the deadly archers hunting the Avatar group.

Jeong Jeong? That´s Admiral Zhao. Of course shown in trailer. Pity we didn´t see cabbage man in ityet but I guess in an action-focused trailer a bit out of place?

I don’t know what it is but this is the only source of media that can bring me to tears. I’ve seen that trailer so many times and it gets me all choked up. Genuinely. I’ve only been able to see the first two episodes and it’s been killing me I haven’t been able to see the rest or rewatch the animated series.

I really don't think people understand how impossible it is to bring the animated series to real life. Cartoons can do things that just don't look right when you try and make it real. This is as good as its going to get. Yall should be happy.

Guys, it actually will have more screen time than the original first season, it wiil be 8 episodes with 1 hour each, and there are some episodes on the original that can and should be cut too. My hype is going throught the roof.

It definitely looks better, the bending effects are better, which really makes me think why did Bric(k)e leave the team? If its not looks then is it the story or the characters? Really makes you play " what is wrong with this " game even if you don't want to and just wanna appreciate the new Avatar content

If you look at effective storytelling time, the live action will be longer - it works out to being equivalent to 2 extra episodes per season. Also, some things need to be changed when you move to live action - for example, they are extending the timeline because the original all takes place in a single year. roughly, which is fine for the animated series because the characters only age if the artists age them - but in live action, the actor for Aang was 11 when he auditioned, so by the time they started filming I guess he would have been 12 and now he is 14 - by the end of filming book 3 there will be no way to make him seem like a 12 year old, so but extending the timeline, it keeps the actors looking right for the age - my understanding, and I'm not sure if this is official or speculation, but it sounds logical at least, is that they will have things to allow "time jumps" to keep the ages matched. For example, one person suggested that [when they reach book 3] they might have Aang in a coma longer - so rather than picking up a couple weeks after Azula almost killed him, they could make it several months - whatever is needed to match the ages the actors can play. This doesn't change the spirit of the story, in fact, in many ways it makes the mechanics of the story more believable as it would give more time for our heroes to improve their skills and for things to happen. In an animated series we are slightly more removed from reality and that makes it easier to overlook issues of time - like, Sokka meets Suki and it seems like he learns a whole new fighting style [at least some basics of it] and falls in love all in what seems to be a couple days - no more than 3. So I'm expecting that in fixing the aging problem, it will make those sorts of little things work better. Given that the people who are involved in this live action are, as alI understand it, all fans of the original, I think we have good reason to believe they will work hard on capturing the spirit of the original even if they need to make some changes - also, keep in mind that the creators of the original series where involved through most of the development and a good portion of the writing stages of the live action before they left and they were involved in some of the unraveling of stories so they could be put together differently while keeping the intent. I gather some of the stories which had to be padded in the original [like the story came out say 2 minutes short of the required run time so you add some sort of filler that makes it fit right] might get combined with other compatible stories to provide a better overall flow in the 60 minute episode format. I don't think we need let The Movie that Shan't Be Named spoil it for us - Shyamalan never even bothered to actually watch the whole series, he only watched part of it and he didn't have enough respect to get the names right - I mean, what does that say about the effort he put into it. These people are already showing that they are not like him. This isn't going to be a scene to scene copy, nor should it be, it is a retelling - and since it is being done by people who care, I think we have a good chance that it will be worth watching.
