I literally watched the first episode last night with my daughters and we LOVED it! We spent the whole hour aweing, cheering and crying. So glad they stayed true to the original, even when they embellished with the small changes. Very happy to watch y'all react to one of my family's favorite franchises.

Sweeties...no. This is NOT a children's show. Little kids can watch the animations. The rest of us can watch this just fine. When "Jurassic Park" was initially released, parents brought their small kids to see it, then had fits because it was 'supposed' to be for kids. The TV ads clearly showed that *carnage was gonna happen*, not *Barney the Purple ew-thing* popping out cute songs. Also, I'm glad they've changed up some of the narrative of this show. *I don't want to watch the same, exact thing.*

Um Jane , The Earth King was Hou-Ting`s father whom she hated and regarded as an incompetent bureaucrat who let his subjects and Dai Li walk all over him. Toph`s father was simply a wealthy and influential Earth Kingdom official.(Also a toxic helicopter parent).

It’s hard to explain but Aang isn’t flying he’s hovering just like a car that only hovers over the ground is a hover car not a flying car. Flying would entail going at high altitudes not needing the ground for a source of lift. What he does is use air bending to hover off the ground by guiding himself with wind. He can only go so high doing that he can also glide into air currents in his descents and ease his landings but that all requires the ground to achieve. So to all the people saying he’s flying no he is not he still needs the wings to fly, he is simply hovering using wind as lift, he would not be able to sustain flight if he were to try to go to a higher altitude which is why he couldn’t save himself falling out of the sky. No ground for lift.

I'm guessing they can fly with fire because of Sozin's comet which powers them up. The main time we see this in the original was during Sozin's comet. We see both Jeong Jeong and Firelord Ozai do it. We also see Azula do it without the comet for a short amount of time.

I mean we've seen Azula do it even without the comet... Granted, it was only briefly. Then Ozai did it in the final fight with Aang. So it'd make sense that they'd be able to get to the airbenders this way.

5:16 Aang is 12 and now technically 112 years old. XD Traditionally, the Avatar is revealed or told they are the Avatar at 16 years old. They knew that Sozin was mobilizing his forces for his quest to begin conquering the other nations so they felt it was necessary to tell Aang early on in order to begin his training.

I think he forgot that the firebenders were using the power of the comet to increase their abilities. Even a normal firebender can exude firebending 10 fold what they normally could.

Watched all 8 Netflix Episodes. My score for the series is a 9/10 across the board. Definitely recommend. I am showing and watching with my 8yr old daughter this weekend. 1) They show the air nomad deaths, so to adults, watch first 20 minutes before kids. Otherwise kids can watch once Aang is in ice. 2) This is not a copy of the original. 8 Live action episodes to tell story of 20 cartoon episodes. Episode 6 of original looks like it will be in season 2. Season 2 episode 2 of original is added into season 1. 3) The first episode is the first 3 episodes together with the deaths of the air nomads. 4) Original cartoon Episodes 4, 5, 7-10, 12, 13, 15, and 17 have their essential episode essence represented, in episodes 2 through 6 of the live action. A lot of things are re-ordered. Some things are expanded You will see parts of things from a recognizable episode mashed with events from other episodes. 5) Watch the entire thing before judging. Sometimes you will think something was forgotten only to learn, that the other parts or viewpoints of a given episode are in a follow-up episode. The way the episodes are mashed together means the story jumps between events of various episodes, so the representation of one episode might occur across 2 or 3 episodes; or there may be an intervening episode. 6) Do Not PreJudge. The format is different than the original cartoon, initially the order will seem odd. Just hang in with it, overall it does work. 7) Episodes 11, and 14 are not shown, but pay attention anytime Zuko, Iroh, or Zhou get a report. The events of those episodes are mentioned but it’s a one time blink, or talk and you will miss it. These episodes have indirect representation in the series. The honorable mentions in the reports made me laugh while watching. 8) The Jeong Jeong part of Episode 16 might occur in season 2, or 3 without Zhou. Jeong Jeong is not in season 1 of this live action. 9) The last 2 episodes of the Netflix Live action have been mashed together and reorder the events of original cartoon episodes 18-20. The Katara vs Paku fight is Wow! 10) Koh will appear far earlier than expected. and not when or how fans expect. He is still a creepy, freaky, and dangerous spirit. They expand Koh’s role to include some of the lore with him from the comics as well. He is voiced by George Takei (Sulu from 1966 Star Trek). 11) The original voice actor of the cabbage man, plays and is the cabbage man in this Netflix live Action series!! 12) The previous 3 avatars and ocean spirit La, at points will be given permission by Aang to use him as a channel. Kyoshi is obvious. Many people apparently missed when Roku did so. Pay attention, do not miss it by talking or by being distracted by what Roku is showing and teaching Aang. Kurik will refuse. La’s turn is OBVIOUS. 13) Azula’s machinations are definitely as evil as Ozai’s. Yes Azula learns lightning bending before the end of season 1. She is far darker than the original cartoon.

DUDE the fire bender can jet pack like that BECASUE OF THE COMET...i am baffled that most reactors didn't remember that the geno-cide of the air nomads happened when the comet was on the sky and it was the comet festival. The comet made every fire benders 10 times more powerful so almost every fire bender can used the jet pack ability. So many reactors i watch didn't remember this detail. That is also they are more powerful and can burned hotter than normal. xD

Toph's fater was not the King, he was upper class Noble Family. Kyoshi was not the last before Aang, Roku was from the fire nation. as also shown when they walked up on the stairs where the other Avatar reincarnation where standing.

i look at this as the live action version for the grown ups who did watch the original as kids, you get the nostalgia stuff but with some stuff which is bit more "mature" this is TV-14 rated, cos they dont show excessive amount blood or female nipples or sex..

The really shitty part is they werent just wiped out. Every single air nomad was horribly burned to death, roasted alive men women and children entirely families. Its not as dark in the cartoon because we just hear "theyre dead" but theyre all fighting this inferno and had no chance

I'd say the show didn't add, take out or change anything but rather expand the existing plot story and bring bits and hits of filler episodes that are plot point in the story instead of the whole episodes whole story. Other episodes of netflix adaptation are mixed but makes sense and good to be tied together instead of separate and independent story lines.

11:20 The air nomads were traditionally peaceful and nonviolent. Very pacifistic. They used bending to protect and preserve life, not take it. As Aang explains in the animated series, the Airbenders didn't have a traditional military or any kind of militia. Now in Korra, any airbender that is willing to do it or capable of it, can in fact suck the air out and suffocate anyone as seen by Zaheer killing the Earth Queen. But the fact that the air nomads aren't trained for killing or high levels of combat in comparison to the other nations is what Sozin took advantage of. Sozin's comet was the boost that he needed as an extra buff and in a surprise attack, he Order 66'd them to extinction.

Glad you guys caught the line. That Man of Steel's scene felt personal to me so I couldn't forget it, word for word. I loved this Netflix live action ATLA especially the visuals, but this line felt off (well because we've heard it before) - does it mean that Aang actually 'pretended', or is it plagiarism (including dad figure's shaky voice), or is it some form of homage to Superman?

Nothing has an instinct to self destruct. What really begs the question is why didn't they go after the water nation next and try to kiII all the newborns. Even if they succeeded in kiIIing Aang, the Avatar would just move on to the next nation in line. In the cartoon they wanted to capture him alive specifically to prevent this.

saw a bit of this at the soup kitchen i eat/ volunteer at and it was AWFUL. what's with the arrow tattoo pointing at the kids nose? magical boogers stored there? somebody explain how the fire crew wasn't worried about the air and water crews. aren't non electrical, grease, and chemical fires easily put out with water? also aren't most fires ( with some exceptions) unable to burn without air? so an air guy should dominate a fire guy right? also how does a child master some mystical power or whatever before a person with much greater wisdom and experiance? the kids basically the girl version of the new captain marvel. great with his powers to the point of surpassing his elders and teachers without much explanation as to how or why. just kinda whoops ass without much of a story arch explaining why😢

I do not like it. Changes too much from the anime and sokka and katara are nothing like their show versions. Not very good acting by them either. Very...forced and dont feel chemistry between cast. Netflix show is already inconsistent. Can he fly or not? Seems to only need kite when the plot calls for it, any other time he's flying around with no kite. I dont even like the anime that much, but its far better. The line delivery, pacing, and presentation of abilities and faults are much better. Katara is already showing signs of netflix girl boss syndrome. I wish we went back to the days of writing actually strong and well written female characters instead of the disney, amazon, and netflix versions.

They destroyed the entire series in just one episode. They went too much live action movie style and didn't really do anything like the show did. This series has proven to be an absolute disgrace. Bad casting for Sokka and Zuko. The culture of the Fire Nation was very Japanese but they didn't look like the Japanese. However Sozin was casted very well, he really looks the part despite being the wrong race to look like Sozin from the series. They completely threw out the humor which was a major part of the series. Not having him fight Zuko's ship in the Avatar State was a tragedy, so lazy to not do that sequence. And have him learn he was the last airbender while in the Southern Water Tribe was absolutely stupid. And not having Aang fall in love with Katara at first sight is the second major plot point that was absolutely cut out of the series. I do like they show what happens before he runs away and what happened to the Southern Air Temple. It also is a good idea they had to have ALL the Air Nomads go to the Southern Air Temple since in the series the only place we see bodies is the Southern Air Temple, the others were just empty when they should have had bodies.

This was pretty decent to be honest. You wanna talk about bad: refer to the M Night Shamalyan adaptation, the MK2 Annihilation movie, and any of those Resident Evil live action films. This was only the first season. I think by Season 2, it’ll be better and then by Season 3 hopefully great. If you’re gonna be so negative about this Netflix adaptation, just go back and watch the OG cartoon. The OG cartoon will always be top tier to me and to so many others. This adaptation I’m keeping an open mind.
