@ancaplanaoriginal5303 sorry but the whole "humanity needs unobtanium as energy source to survive" is blatant BS when they can send city-sized lighthuggers to other star systems using more energy than human civilization has ever consumed up to that point. Plus, they've been stifling the production of synthetic unobtainium by other corporations because they want to have a monopoly on it. From the Avatar Wiki: > The company's early expeditions to Pandora were seen as a colossal risk; the construction of the ISV Venture Star in the late 21st century alone put enormous strain on capital resources, but with exclusive mining rights to unobtanium (which is valued at 20 million dollars per kilogram raw and 40 million dollars processed), and potential profits from countervirals, biofuels, and cosmetics, the enormous capital investment has paid off.[3] The RDA then began to suppress Terran alternatives for unobtanium, which created a black market for the substance which helped to fund terrorist groups.

@@IlyaDemidov It really isn't as unbelievable as some people make it out to be. Yes, the Capital stars are in no way optimised for atmospheric flight, and would definitely burn up if they approached the atmosphere at orbital velocity. However, they are also equipped with the most powerful and efficient engines theoretically achievable under known physics. They can accelerate the massive structure at 1.5 G for months. This renders entry heating a non-issue, since they can just kill all of their velocity and very gently descend, under just enough thrust to remain under tension. The fact that the structure can handle 1.5Gs also means that the Pandora's 0.8Gs of gravity shouldn't be a problem either. Now, the real problem is the engines themselves. the engine plume is basically a gigantic gamma ray laser with some leftover particles mixed in. This is problematic enough in vacuum, but a whole new disaster inside the atmosphere, since now not only radiation, but also convection and conduction is a thing. At anywhere near max capacity, them engines would create a continent sized nuclear fireball, desintegrating the ship instantly. however, there is a way to make this work. the engines themselves use cascade annihilation, in which baryons (protons and antiprotons) decay first, but the leftovers then also annihilate to achieve maximum theoretical efficiency of near 100% matter-energy conversion. This means that the propellant is hydrogen and the fuel is antihydrogen. We also know that capital stars have an afterburner, through which they can inject extra hydrogen to trade efficiency for thrust. Now, hypothetically, if you wanted to land a ship with such a drive, you could annihilate just a tiny amount of antiprotons, but then inject an obscene amount of reaction mass through the afterburner. This would make the drive terribly inefficient, but it could possibly run cold enough to be usable in the atmosphere. Maybe. the key is, it is not complete nonsense. It's just a little nonsense, but for science fiction this is, at least for me, nowhere near my limit of suspending disbelief.

We dont know where the story will go, there's few more movies left. I sure dont want the humans to win, they are disgusting space cancer that should be contained to their dying world, and figure their shit out of how to live sustainably or perish from over-exploitation of their resource there, BUT I can see how the series of movies might end horribly with the humans 'winning'. If they 'win', they should at least show what would be the reality of it. That they wouldn't really win, but they will end up exactly where they started, with another dying world struggling to survive, and they now have to find yet ANOTHER planet to destroy. And lets say dont find any in time , due to the difficulty of space travel and how rare full of life planets are. At the least we will have a very bad ending with a very unsatisfactory 'defeat' of the villains, by their own self-destruction. "Bad ending" in the sense that it would be devastating and unpleasant, but sure as hell very memorable, if well executed.

The ISV Venture Star is one of the best designs ever for a spacecraft - very realistic. I don't think that it would be atmosphere capable though (I am pretty sure it would break up under the stress of atmospheric entry)- a specialised lander would be a better option. @@spartacus3111 The craft are shown entering the atmosphere and operating like the sky cranes used to deposit NASAs Opportunity and Perseverance rovers. They long thin "valkyrie" style design of the ISVs is ideal for interstellar travel, but they would disintegrate on atmospheric entry - through a lack of aerodynamic surfaces, lack of re-entry heat shielding and flexing of the ships spine. If they detached the landing sections (each having their own integral fusion drives to safely land many thousands of tonnes of payload) from space it would be realistic and allow the ISVs to refuel and return to Earth faster, having spent a lot less delta v.

These ships looked excellent in the first movie, very interesting and scientific design, but using them to land in atmosphere here, I dunno that kind of ruins them for me tbh. I thought the whole point of the ship's long truss design was to distance the crew/cargo away from the radioactive antimatter engines. But here they're just bathing the landing zone in extremely radioactive exhaust. It would be literally raining fallout for months as they built.
@BoxStudioExecutive
@BoxStudioExecutive Жыл бұрын
I don't think that's how those engines work. Antimatter engines would release lots of energy and radiation, yes, but you don't just slap one of them on a thing and have it go zooom. The energy from the engine heats up propellant (some kind of fluid) which is then ejected to accelerate the spacecraft. The exhaust is not necessarily radioactive. Antimatter engines would predominantly release gamma rays, which isn't something you can easily control and release in a stream of radiation anyway (compared to particle radiation which could be controlled by strong magnetic fields).
