I'm not even 30 and I feel the responsibility to say this does not compare very well to the unbelievable polyphonic Ave Maria arrangements out there. Not that these guys did poorly, but when you're gonna bring in "every version of Ave Maria ever recorded", then, well this is a necessary footnote.

Never in my life have I been able to listen to this song because it was played at my father's funeral in 1970 when I was 5 years old. I immediately turn it off whenever I see it anywhere. Well today this mysteriously popped up in my feed. Been thinking about my father a lot lately and wishing I had him here to talk to and love me. Listening to this is what I imagine it must feel like to be sitting next to God and Heaven, this is the first time I could ever listen to this all the way through and appreciate it for what it is. What a gift you have given me today! This is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard in my life, I love all of you for this, you have given me an enormous gift today and I thank you for that! Sending Love from another who misses her father also. Whenever I miss him terribly, I go outside alone and talk to the stars. Today, I send Love to you and tell you, because your father can't, how proud I am of the woman you've become. May you find a small sign over the next few days, a sign from above, that immediately makes you pause, to let you know your father's spirit is still with you every day and that Love never dies, it only changes form.

I had Ave Maria sung at my wedding mass (42 years ago) for my presentation to the Blessed Virgin (which is laying flowers at her feet and praying for a happy and fruitful marriage, under her guidance). The gentleman who sang it sang it with such beauty, I knew I would never hear anything more lovely. I was wrong. I cried through this entire video and have sent it to numerous people. Hearing this today was a gift. Deborah is correct-- their jackers surely must be hiding their angels' wings.

Wow, Wow Wow! I cried when I heard this version of "Ave Maria" more than usual. I was so moved at how these remarkable young black men sang accapella this beautiful song! Their music and vocal expertise and harmony made them sing as angels would sing in heaven. I am sure the ",Blessed Mother" was probably moved to tears of joy as well. I hope these young men continue their singing career singing for God or just because they love it. This is so beautiful that I will share it to my family and friends!❤😊🙏 Thank you so much for this beautiful gift!❤🙏

I read about 20 comments and figured since no one else addressed the elephant in the room I would do it. And please, no haters, ok? I mean all of this with all of the respect in my heart for these gentleman and my love for them taking the time to learn the song and do such an amazing job on it. As a 68 year old Black singer, I was a member of the Barbershop Quartet Society for about 15 years. Their style of music has never been very popular among young Black men, so I know something about "singing something different". I just wanted to say how absolutely REFRESHING it was to hear four young very talented Black men singing something classical and doing, as I said earlier, such an amazing job on it. I literally had tears in my eyes listening to this and that rarely happens. I wish we could get more young Black people, men and women, interested in this type of music rather than the rap and hip-hop that in my opinion, has been a major factor in glorifying thug life, street life, and disrespect towards women in the Black community over the last 40 years.

I could not agree with you more, and I think it is wonderful to see these young men singing something so beautifully that seems "out of character"... It should not be that way, and I hope that more young people (black or any other color, race, or creed) will discover the beauty of classical music... One only has to look at East Asians for groups like Bach Collegium Japan or performers like Lang-Lang and others to know how universal western classical music is...

I didn't realize it until i've seen your comment. I mean we are a few black people studying classical music. We are at least... 6, 7 in my conservatory, for all the instruments. But never, and why do I realize it only now, never have I seen a black quartet.

Actually, please re-read the Bible very carefully and slowly, because she’s not your “blessed mother”, (nor is she a “perpetual virgin”...Jesus had brothers and sisters, and God never had any intention of denying Mary and Joseph the family they had planned, and he didn’t deny them. Jesus just had to come first, they had their children afterwards). Going to anyone but God with your prayers, and going to anyone but Jesus Christ as your intercessor is an abomination to God. Someone has to tell misguided people this. It’s out of love. Truth must be said. And the word of God says all this. Mary doesn’t hear your worship, and all worship (and “revering”, because that’s the same thing to God) is to be directed to God. Mary would be appalled at people “revering” her, Jesus is HER savior, too. She never would have prayed to anyone but God, and frankly, all the people over the centuries who have tried to contact her to “intercede” for them have first of all, they’ve defied God, by going against his word; they’ve in their lives kicked Jesus Christ himself aside (which you cannot actually do in reality, but you can do it in the eyes of God metaphorically), because that’s HIS job; and it’s necromancy, one isn’t supposed to be contacting the dead, regardless of how alive you feel their spirit is in heaven; attempting to harass poor Mary in death by nonstop requests for “intercession” must have been Roman Pagan way of trying to get back for her providing Jesus to the world, or just to make would-be Christians engage in pagan activity, because that’s what Rome did when imprisionment, torture and vicious murder didn’t stop the TRUE message of Jesus (no purgatory, no “earning” anything to do with salvation, Jesus already paid for our sins, NOTHING we can do can ADD anything to Jesus’s gifts how insulting and arrogant to think one can somehow put a cherry on top of that. Extremely arrogant and totally missing the point. No “indulgences” could ever have any impact on the afterlife of anyone ever. God. Cannot. Be. Bribed. And anyone who claims otherwise or who ever did is not on the side of God, but is running a counterfeit to STRIP PEOPLE OF THEIR OWN POWER AND AUTHORITY IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST...JOHN 14:12. Read it as slowly and as many times as you need. Then pop over to Revelation and read it as slowly and as many times as you need. Pay very, very, very close attention to the whore of Babylon. Only one place on earth could ever fit this description. Come out of Babylon while you still can. That’s biblical. And shrines are also idolatry, idk why this one even needs to be said, and all the statues and trinkets of Mary and saints and angels are all idolatry. God didn’t say it’s forbidden, but then it’s all OK after all if it happened to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. He said not to do it at all. Period. I always hear it said that Catholics “don’t pray to Mary”. Well, if you recite anything with her name in it, if you try to contact her in any way, you are praying to her. If you have a little image or statue of her, you are committing idolatry. If you kneel before it, maybe light a candle, then you’re committing idolatry all the more. Go to God, if you want to be his child. Don’t whore around after other gods, and yes, anyone, anyone, anyone but him is whoring around after another god. You (hopefully) don’t go to the neighbor, friends, aunts, uncles, coworkers, butcher, baker, and candlestick maker when you want to have a relationship with someone, or do you? Do you sleep with the neighborhood to deepen your relationship with your spouse? Then WHY would anyone think it’s a good idea to go to anyone but God for anything in their lives? He’s not so incompetent that he doesn’t have time for you, is he a liar? Is God a liar? Is he? He said to come to him. Directly. No middleman. No hierarchies. Anyone putting themselves between you and God is lying to you, and is standing in between you and God. Jesus is the way, the truth, the life. No man or woman on earth could ever be your leader to him. Only Jesus can be very very your intercessor (or Jesus is a liar and I say he is NOT a liar), and the Holy Spirit is your guide and comforter. Btw, yet one more (of an endless list of how Catholicism defies God and is actually Roman paganism (just going to saints and Mary, renamed Roman gods and goddesses, there’s no “queen of heaven”, except one God hates in the OT, a pagan false goddess)...God said CALL NO MAN FATHER, FOR I AM YOUR FATHER”. And again, no exceptions because rod this or that reason, so stop doing that See? See what Rome has done for 2,000 years (doing with their co-conspirators, the Jewish authorities who tell power stripping lies to THEIR people, too, both have stolen the birthright of their followers with lies, lies, lies that can all be exposed by just readi carefully the word of God, and skip modern versions that water it down and sometimes reverse meanings), all to steer people away from a true, direct relationship with God and straight into paganism and therefore straight into hell? I can only let God be the true judge of what he’ll be doing with all those who have been misled by popes and Rome and rabbis. But I CAN do what Jesus commanded and that’s to speak the word to all those who have ears to hear. God help those who don’t, let their ears and hearts be open to your TRUE word. These facts are sometimes perceived as an attack. The Bible say the word of God was sharper than any two edged sword, and this is all in the word of God, so it proceeds out of the mouth of God, not mine. People need to take it up with Him if they’re offended. We are told to speak what is written. That being said, the men are so beautiful and they sing beautifully, very angelic indeed, it would just be even better to have be them sing songs exalting God himself, as we are to do. We are definitely not instructed to sing such songs about Mary or saints.

I have heard dozens of arrangements and this is hands down the most glorious version. I actually wept becuase of how beautiful it is. What an amazing talent you have!

I have never heard a more beautiful singing of Ave Marie than this. These four talented gentlemen sing this in a way I've never heard before.

Some of those chords, especially in those acoustics, are as soul shakingly beautiful as the Gregorian chants of old. Amazing talent here.

@@annettemargarit9245 We already exist in many different genres, some people just aren't aware and assume we're limited to only certain styles of music. Have you ever heard Leontyne Price sing? She retired decades ago, but she's one of the most exquisite opera singers to ever grace the Met.

This is the first rendition, in a very long time, that I have heard more than justice done to this sacred and tender song! I am overwhelmed by the talent, simplicity, and beauty that these young masters have contributed to Schubert’s composition. These young men have taken an overplayed classic and given it a newer, fresher, more sincere approach. I could listen to them sing this again and again. If they constructed the arrangement, it is ingenious! They could sing this on top of a landfill and turn it into a cathedral. What a treat and delight to have discovered this video! I’m 64 years old and believe that there are still many beautiful discoveries to be experienced! God bless these musicians and give them the public recognition and respect they deserve. I applaud them for looking back to find that good music can be older, and made more popular by newer talent. Modern music doesn’t have to be a strictly modern composition. I wish them the very best of luck and shall support them whenever or wherever possible.
