I have the same kit on my 340i, sounds awesome I love it. You get the full sound when you let off after a gear change, or keep partial throttle when you let off otherwise they are crisp like you say. I'm pushing 21psi on stage 2+ stock turbo.

I had twin Turbosmart VTAs on my N54 when it was a running car 🤤 Sounded so good. I had a Turbosmart VTA on my ecoboost mustang before I sold it and now I have a Turbosmart SuperSonic on my 14' Tremor and it sounds like a big rig when they hit their air brakes hahaha Turbosmart makes killer equipment, I've also used their wastegate on my mustang and I have a set ready to go on the Tremor. They make super nice stuff 🤘

@@cedrick305 “Turbos”? You have an N54? I had a 2011 335i (N55) and being from the same year as your X5, I’m assuming you have an N55 as well. Even my dad’s 17’ X5 has an N55. I currently drive a 16’ M235i and it has an N55. They put em’ in almost every car from 11’-17’ it feels like. Edit: I’m just now connecting the dots. You have an X5, you have an ‘M’ as your profile picture, and you said “turbos” with an ‘s’. Do you have an X5 M?!?! The S63 is a beaut! 2nd edit: I’m a dumbass that confused you with the first guy that replied, the X5 owner who asked the question.

You need to keep in mind that the boost after the intercooler is less than the boost before it “charge-pipe” so the BOV spring must be stiff enough to compensate the boost difference.

BMW relocated the MAF sensor on the N54 from the intake manifold to downstream on the air intake on the N55 plus with the boost pressure on the charge pipe. I'm also quite happy the wastegate became electronic in mid-2013 moving away from a pneumatic wastegate. More performance, reduced maintenance and less problems. Call me boring, I'm running fully stock as in no tune at all; but I have a VRSF charge pipe and M Peformance exhaust.

Great videos! Purchased the same kit for my 17’ 340i but removed it bc I got so many mixed opinions. I understand there’s no performance benefits but are there any possible negative effects on the engine or turbo? Also after installation both the factory wastegate and bov are left in operation ? I have catless dp,intake,intake/turbo inlet resonator delete,stage 2 tune

I just finished swapping in a 91 ford 5.0 v8 into my e36. i rebuilt that whole engine. and ive loved cars since like 3. always learning anything new, like tech and stuff . what im trying to say is i know ALOT about cars but god dam this engine is overly complicated, with everything he explained im like " WHY THEY DO THAT" lol

Why that engine? I'm not knocking you, I am genuinely curious. Not a common swap. Far as I know it's 180-200hp stock in a 5.0 V8 is a little anemic, but I'm not a Ford guy so any aftermarket on that engine platform isn't something I'd know.

Hey brother. I’ve been hunting down this 101f01 code for a while now. On an n55 x3. It only appears in the cooler months and then disappears in the warmer one. The mechanic can’t find any leaks in the valve cover with a smoke test. I’m guessing is a micro crack of a component but not sure where it could be. Manifold pressure too high and engine light comes on.

So BMW had include a vacuum pump for the sole purpose of providing a PWM control vacuum, to vacuum line that then controls a vacuum actuator.

Weird. BMW doesn’t use the throttle body, the valve is always open and throttling is control via valve lift. This is because a throttle valve induces pumping losses.

Is the upshift pop created by both diverter air and extra fuel injection? The sound only happen on certain sport models mimicking turbo anti lag. Without extra fuel, would it still pop(enough hydro carbon in CAT?)?

Yes if you notice in the video during the shift you get a pop and only when I let off the gas at 5K RPMs do you get a strong BOV sound. So with an automatic the BOV won't activate during a gear shift. I don't think you'd get the pop unless fuel was being diverted to the exhaust.

Nice video! Can you add a bov to a n55. Also another question i have a f30 and everytime someone opens the door i get a key not detectable notification on idrive. Just changed key fob battery and still happening. No issues other then whenevr someone opens the door. Comfort access works fine. Could it be the battery of the car.

Thanks! You can add an electronic BOV on the N55. If you were to shut the car off and start it right back would you still get that notification? I noticed on the F36 it seems to hold on to the message even when the issue is gone. On the E90 it would automatically clear the message once the key is redetected.

I read the forums today a lot of people were sayying they bought the ebay logo door light and they would get that notification whenever they opened the doors. Once the swapped back to oem the notification wouldnt come one. My car has those ebay logo lights. Im gonna buy some oem ones.

Yes you can. If you don’t want to go full on bov, you can get one from go fast bits. It’s basically an adapter that helps it to hold more boost. Not too expensive as well. Would totally recommend for a mild to medium set up.

Don’t think any EPA certified cars in USA have venting to atmosphere, like using BOV. I believe BOV are always aftermarket parts. So it either has diverter valve (excess air pressure go into intake manifold) or recirculating valve (excess go in front of the turbine or intake pipe)

No it would be like the B58 and I'm guessing they refined that technology on the S55 given it had a dual clutch + boost and adopted it on the B58. You can get a BOV kit for it as of this year from BMS.

First of all no car has or needs it. When Upshifting under Throttle they keep Boost in the engine so throttle Response is better. In any other case they use the dump valve inside the Turbo to blow of and keep the Turbo spinning. So fitting a blow off is plane stupid!

you can even get the manual from an n54 cause the bell housing bolt pattern is the same, might need a different drive shaft. this topic has been discussed on the forums countless times, id suggest you check it out there

Most of the performance bmw engines are 3 liter inline turbo 6's or turbo v8s...and my 3 liter m4 has 570whp with just a downpipe and charge pipes and e85.

Scavenging the boost through exhaust also reduces turbo lag.
