@lamento_official Жыл бұрын
This song was written by their old drummer, The Rev (passed away December 2009) because the band asked him to make something absolutely nuts for the album they were working on. In turn, he came up with a song where a guy kills his girlfriend for denying his marriage proposal because he is obsessed with her, then she comes back from the dead to kill him. In hell he begs for forgiveness and she gives it to him and then they live happily ever after as a married zombie couple. The song itself, although is purely meant to tell a wicked story, is basically a love song, a really dark love song.. I think that "A Little Piece Of Heaven" is like "Bohemian Rhapsody" It’s unique masterpiece of art and it takes time to be totally appreciated or understood for some people.

I had a feeling since you delved only a bit into A7X's catalogue that this song will eventually come up and first time reactions to this song is always golden haha. The Rev is a genius song writer and i wouldn't personally take this song's lyrics as black and white cause yes the themes behind it are well dark, depraved etc, but Jimmy (at least to me) is a master at writing metaphors and deeper meaning and at least from my take away from this song is that, Love is untouchable, when two hearts connect you can fuck things up, and have things go so dark, but in the end of the day, if the effort is there, and you're truly intertwined, it will conquer all! Or i'm just delusional haha, regardless love the reaction Rachel!

Love when people react to this live show, i personally love the live version of this track more than the studio one (primarily for the Matt - Jimmy call and response part). Some things you may enjoy (maybe not even video worthy - more like on your own time). There are numerous videos on the story of how this song came to be, it's the Rev's baby. Also, they have a bunch of studio track breakdowns (and yes they did this song) they started doing which are super cool because a lot of the times they'll isolate the different instruments and vocal parts or little parts of the songs that are easy to miss.

Yeah the music video for this one really helps paint the story. It’s about a guy who murdered his gf because she said no to his proposal for marriage (not only that but laughed at him as if he was crazy thinking anyone would ever marry him). He snapped and killed her and ended up preserving her body and well….having fun time….with it but since dead bodies are cold he got a “heater for her thighs” so it would feel like she was alive. Eventually her soul came back to her dead body to get revenge and she killed him. He then snapped back out of it and realized what he had done and how fucked up it was so he asked for her forgiveness and she decided to give him a chance since now they’re essentially both stuck in this purgatory together of basically being zombies. They end up doing regular zombie shit together, you know the normal zombie shit, and they ended up falling back in love and deciding to actually “get married” and spend the rest of eternity together as the undead killing people, more specifically killing people getting married because the idea of marriage is what got them both in the situation they were now in in the first place. It’s definitely an extremely morbid and fucked premise and story, and that’s kinda the point. That type of story and lyric to the background of the musicality they play throughout is haunting because it doesn’t seem like the story will be that dark. The Rev wrote the song basically entirely himself and it’s considered one of their best songs simply because it’s so unique to all the rest of their shit and it’s just so well done and if the topic were different, it likely would’ve been nominated for some shit
@TheJerseyNinja Жыл бұрын
The first part The Rev sings is the guy killing the girl. He stabs her about “50 fucking times” rips her heart out and eats it. He just fully loses it. The second time he sings the lyrics change to “must have stabbed HIM fifty fucking times” because she comes back for revenge and kills him the same way he killed her. Stabs him and then rips his heart out and eats it. The point being she was an asshole to him, he killed her, she came back to get revenge and killed him, now they’re both stuck undead and they’ve both eaten each others hearts and realize they both messed up so they end up “bonding” over that and end up together forever. Toxic ass relationship tbh 😂
@TheJerseyNinja Жыл бұрын
Another fun fact. This song is such a loved song by A7X fans, when they play it they tend to play it at the very end nowadays as a closer, so when I went to see them a few years ago when they had a make up concert because they were supposed to open for Metallica but had to postpone because Syn’s wife went into labor, they had a make up concert that was free if you had tickets to the Metallica concert and now it was a headlined A7X concert so longer setlist. Anyways, they played this song at the very end and right before they played it, they brought a guy on stage from back stage and he proposed to his gf on the stage. She said yes and then they went into this song to end it off 😂

This song was written when the band took a break to recover from writers block. The rev (drummer) went to a cabin in the middle of nowhere for several weeks (may have even been months. Idk.) No contact with the outside world. Just him, his thoughts, and his instruments. When the band got back to the studio. He sat in front of the drum set, recorded the entire drum track in one take. Then went to the piano and recorded the whole piano part in one take. Then he explained the song to the rest of the band. the rev will always be king

One of my favorite facts about this song is how when they wrote it, they wanted a very Danny Elfman feel to it, so they contracted a guy named Marc Mann to do orchestral instrumentation, and he brought in a guy named Steve Bartek to help with horns, and the band found out AFTER the work was done that both Mann and Bartek had been a long-time collaborators with Danny Elfman, going all the way back to when the three of them were members of the '80s New Wave band Oingo Boingo!!! After that band's run ended, Mann continued to work as a session musician and producer in the music industry, while Bartek went on to work with Elfman on multiple iconic movie scores, including Beetlejuice, Batman (1989), and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

If i could relize a moment in life, it would be 2018 when I was fortunate enough to haul their show, and hearing this every night live. Its because of them I'm touring for the past 10 years. The song always reminds me of if Tim Burton created a Circus. Thats the way I explained it to my wife when I introduced her to A7X

This song was brought to the band by the rev while recording this album. It started as him just goofing around and it turned into a whole messed up ballad😂 there's actually a whole documentary they made while recording this song and the entire album. You should check it out.
