If one has no control they have to sidewind to find a way out. A sidewinder is a desert snake that is at the mercy of the elements but still adapted to find a way to survive.

City of Evil is such a mindfuck of an album

This song is full of flavor and accuracy from Syn, and this is one of my favorite A7X songs because it’s so underrated, and only real fans will know this song. And about the lyrics, well, ‘Sidewinder’ is actually a type of a snake, hence the hissing at the beginning and many Snake references in the lyrics lol. But the story itself, basically uses the Snake as a way to show evil in beings (humans included) and how those creatures think and behave. It also resembles someone/something who doesn’t necessarily want to do those things, but has to do them for reasons (survival, addiction, etc) Let’s just say, they went very unique with this song :)

I completely agree with what you say about liking a song. You don't usually connect with a song the first time you listen to it. Some of my favorite songs are ones that I didn't like at one point. With Sidewinder it has happened to you like me, it has so much and is so changeable that listening to it once you do not connect with the song. The first time it seems like a constant change set until you get the hang of it. This happens with all songs in general so it's not being disrespectful, it's normal. Good reaction.

Unbound has some of Matt's best vocals and I've never been totally sure why people don't like it. Obviously Matt thought it was cheesy, but the rest of the band seemed to like it.

Their music tastes have definitely changed a lot. Matt seems more inclined to relaxed progressive rock and stoner metal since he started getting back into Pink Floyd and Alice in Chains, and he leans towards ballads now. Syn really seems to be more interested in gypsy jazz and classical. Zacky and Johnny seem to like the band's older material more, though I get why NBK to them is less defining.

@@chrismeadows4216 Only thing I've read is that Matt had a hard time with the vocals for the song, because they hard difficult vocals to produce. To me it seems people interpreted that Matt don't like the song but I think that is a wrong conclusion

I love the song, but it was the hardest for me to love from City of Evil besides Betrayed. I feel the chorus isn't that strong and the song moves out of it too quickly. Really, it moves out of everything quicker than any other song on the album, so everything can feel kinda stapled together, and not in the badass way of tracks like Blinded in Chains and Trashed and Scattered. More of a novelty way. Strength of the World executes things in a more emotionally grounded way without veering off in too many directions. Matt's vocals probably would have annoyed you a lot a few months ago, because this is ECCENTRIC. You seem to be at that point like a lot of us where the nasal quirks and the exaggerated pronunciations just make sense, and it's super cool to see. The part of the song I've always been satisfied by more than anything is the completely random piano drop at the start of the 2nd verse. No one probably expected it the first time and I could have gone for more piano. The Spanish traits are all incredible. Syn and Papa Gates played the acoustic duet at the end. I appreciate the song so much for experimentation. It's not a really gripping, compositionally appealing song, but it takes giant risks that make it kind of an underrated fan favorite, and it's very surprising. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I can understand fully why that music was named for a deadly snake. It twists and, and crawls, and strikes, and even visits latin america in the end. Very unusual, not unlikable though. I still think the vocalist in similar the the singer of the Stereophonics.
