Its the aim and mannerism. This thanos was more bloodthirsty and wanted to make the avengers suffer. He also belittled them more. Thanos in infinity war saw what he was doing as his duty and mission in life. The russos labeled him a crusader. This thanos on multiple occations had lines that emphasized he would relish the suffering he would put the earth through. This thanos feels closer to what we originally thought thanos would be like from the end of the original avengers. If this was intentional, it was a smart canonical nod, though it did feel like a weaker performance.

I thought it was a great devolution of Thanos' arc to mirror Tony. In infinity war was Thanos' movie and his goal was dispassionate and about balance for a larger cosmic 'good'. Granted his motivations we're skewed, but it was done out of regret. In the beginning of Endgame when they kill him he is at a level of peace with his imminent death and actually realizes his mistakes and acknowledges his mistreatment of Nebula. I found that aspect to be fascinating and then to have the younger Thanos see his ultimate success and downfall motivate him to completely start over, his dispassion is replaced with vengeance as he states in the end that he is going to enjoy destroying the planet. His emotions skew his judgement and his character arc evovles in the opposite direction from the Thanos who had found peace after achieving his goal and was killed in the first 20 minutes. He was at rest. Tony on the other hand had seen the vision of the avengers ultimate failure in AoU and that created his motivations throughout every movie until Endgame to avoid that outcome which led to it's inevitability. Like Strange says in the final battle, "if I tell you if this is the one situation then it won't happen". Thanos saw the future victory and it didn't come to pass, Tony didn't and made the ultimate sacrifice

what do you mean? virtually everything Bruce went thru in Infinity War was interesting, trying to first just understand what this duality was with Hulk, then repeatedly try to kick it into gear, I thought it was nice he had to save himself (granted, from within the Hulkbuster suit). Didn't they explain in his first scene in End Game that he went into the lab for 18 straight months, and came out with this? So I'm not sure how you could've put any of the actual merging into the movie. My only thing was, as Professor Hulk of course he was big, but he didn't seem QUITE as big as when regular Hulk.

How I assumed the ending was alright was Captain America when back and lived his life in an alternate universe, and using the little watch thing they had, he went back to his own timeline maybe when Peggy passed away.
@Vazkiel5 жыл бұрын
I thought that too at first, but if he had used the time GPS device he would have appeared on the quantum platform again. Cap appearing on the bench implies he went back to the prime timeline past and lived out his life with Peggy in secret. But that conflicts with the scenes in Winter Soldier of her documentary meaning that she was acting pretending her husband was a POW Cap rescued from the Hydra base. I'm sure it just a slight retcon, then again Kievin Fiege said before during an interview back during Civil War that he had a lot of things planned out ahead of time.
@macstacks24515 жыл бұрын
You are correct, Russo brothers themselves confirmed cap lived in an alternate reality and jumped back again to the main time line to give Sam the shield. If you think about it too cap most likely came from far in the future back to the main time line because cap ages so slow due to super serum yet was still old af.
@Vazkiel5 жыл бұрын
Thought about it some more and the jump from 2012 to 1970 shows that they can jump without the Quantum Platform. Thus it seems that the Quantum Platform is simply an anchor point for the team to stay synchronized when they up back to prime timeline. Russo Bros. confirmed that they are operating on a multiverse time travel alternate realities ruleset, (think of Future Trunk's time travel, not saving his timeline but preventing the android apocalypse in another (the prime DBZ timeline)). So Cap would have lived in an alternate timeline with Peggy and then used his quantum suit to jump back to prime timeline but not to the point on the platform but a point of his choosing to be at the bench with a new shield for Falcon. Also, I noticed both times I watched Endgame it seems like the shield is a different one because the line indentations are a bit different from the original. Perhaps Cap came back to prime timeline before the bench scene, went to Wakanda and got more vibranium to make the new shield then travelled normally to the bench.
@marcusthemad13965 жыл бұрын
@@Vazkiel He didn't even have his time suit. He was and old man waiting by the bench for them to realize he didn't come back. Which implies he travel well before the event and waited. When Thanos goes five years into the future, he knows everything that dead Thanos knew. Thanos tells Nebula, “show me everything.” when he’s got her hooked up to his ship. Amazing 3rd act, just outstanding.

though 2019 Thanos got straight up murdered, I think it's especially meaningful that 2014 Thanos got dusted. Because I came into this not expecting they'd actually kill him, that he'd be "dealt with" in such a way as to not be a real threat for a good long time, but so that if we get like 8, 10 years from now and they wanna tell some even bigger crossover story, including multiple villains together, there'd be SOME halfway decent not-totally-ridiculous way to then bring him back for it.

@Australiantatious You're right, they spent a lot of time acknowledging how time travel works, and that their version would not change the past. It was clearly multiverse, where they were jumping to alternate timelines. Its why they could steal stones, set Loki loose, smash Starlord's head in, and steal an entire Thanos without affecting their own history. Until the very end where Rogers goes back into his own past and lives an entire life whilst having no impact whatsoever in modern times. The reason there is so much confusion is because the makers of the movie could not decide how time travel works and contradicted themselves.

Black Widow was so awesome in this, and her new look was just so good. Seriously, scarlett was such a badass in this. :) I enjoyed this a lot more than the other Avengers, but I think because I find the story to be ludicrous in all of them, and in this they just let it be a canvas for the characters. Also, it's a shame Scarlet Witch is so overpowered, because I think she's also amazing when they let her be; I figure they use her more sparingly just because she would snap her fingers to clear most obstacles. Thor staying as he was for the movie was so good, honestly a joy to watch throughout.

They established that when you return, you return on that platform, so did he return the night before in order to surprise Falcon? And is that possible without someone on the other side to extract you (real question because I can't remember if they needed someone there for them to jump back to their timeline or not). Also, couldn't he have just brought his girlfriend to the present where we things are objectively better?
@JabbaJake5 жыл бұрын
@@quintus920 again they didn't specify how yet, but might in the future so idk. But as for Thanos remember that the thanos from the alternate timline is dead since he travelled to our timline amd was defeated. So that timeline actually should be experiencing a better timeline than ours. Plus Agent carter ran shield for a whike so removing her changes way more than just him staying there in that timeline.

The jump from 2012 to 1970 means they can travel with suits without the quantum platform. Maybe Cap jumped from alternate timeline that he lived a life with Peggy, to the prime timeline with just the suit and had his suit ignore the callback from the platform.
@quintus9205 жыл бұрын
Well unfortunately, the timeline he went to to live out his live with his girlfriend and to return the infinity stones could not be the same as the one where Thanos left, because he was deliberately there to make sure that the timeline where Thanos won would not be left without the stones. When he went back to the 1940s, he created an entirely new timeline that no one knows what happened in because that timeline suffered from the butterfly effect caused many times over by Captain America's mere existence every moment in that timeline. Even if he did live somehow not create new timelines everytime he went to replace a stone (which I think he would have had to), he definitely created a widlly different timeline by just existing there the whole time. However, since he was there at the end of the movie without showing up on the time-teleportation pad, and instead was on a bench nearby, he must have either shown up earlier without anyone noticing or saying anything, or he had been there the entire time and had just shown himself to exist in that moment. Now, that would bring up a lot of questions like how did no one know old Cap was around the entire time and how would Old Cap know the exact time and place that Young Cap would teleport away, given that Old Cap had fundamentally changed the past 70 years of the timeline by merely existing in it... TL;DR: When you mess with the timeline, a lot of weird things happen regardless of whether or not its a linear or circular timeline. In fact, a think a circular timeline could make more sense in the real world to be honest).

@@Vazkiel No one else was able to ignore the platform though, right? Also, an even bigger question I have is how did Thanos and his entire army and the mothership get to the present? Nebula had enough Pym particles for herself and no one else, which is a fact they solidly established over and over again. And even if she showed up in the present and robbed some extra particles from the ones that Iron Man stole, that couldn't be enough for 2014 Thanos, 2014 Gamora, their entire 2014 mothership, their entire 2014 army, and 2018 Nebula... and also none of them had the time/space GPS watch, which was the sole reason they were able to navigate space/time in the first place.

The people at our screening were so chill before it started everyone was talking to eachother. Complete strangers talking about what they wonder will happen. I've never seen that even with Harry Potter and Star Wars. Lots of clapping. Laughs and shouts. A loud groan from all of us that stayed for the hammer smashing sound post credits lol.

I don't think Cap broke the time travel rule. It's not that he stayed there until present, it's because they said "you can take as long as you want, but it'll be 5s for us". So my interpretation is that he went back, spent 70 years or w.e got old, but then traveled back. So basically, he created an alternate universe when he went back. When he came back, that alternate past stopped existing, but he got the life he wanted (what the ancient and Bruce talked about - by returning the time stone back after they use it the alternate world collapse back into the regular timeline).

@Tenacious I agree. To keep their time travel theory intact he should have returned through the quantum realm an old man. To be there sitting in the bench meant that he lived through is life.

2014 Thanos is a different man than 2018 Thanos. He is the process of cleansing the universe through blood and war personally killing half of each planet he comes across. He hasn’t achieved any of the stones yet. He hasn’t lived the hardships brought on by the avengers he hasn’t sacrificed anything he has barley gotten involved yet. When he sees that he succeeds and the rest of the universe is ungrateful he changes his plans. I think 2018 Thanos still makes the snap in that situation he enjoys the defeat of respected enemies and wants them to live with that defeat

everyone is having difficulty with time travel in this movie...when they approached time travel so perfectly, for the first time in movie history. They found explanations/excuses for every problem that you usually come across in time travel. They explained that there are an infinite amount of realities. The only reason time travel worked is because the stones are magic. They snap and bring back the dead ppl at the time they are in, not going back in time and bringing them back then. Which is only possible because the stones/gauntlets are super magic. Cap seeing cap is explained by old cap thinking he's loki. Thor meeting mommy is explained by her being a genius and then dying so never having a chance for that to affect her time line. Everything was perfect. People trying to nit-pick is so frustrating. It was a brilliant fucking movie. just let it be.

Could be that GotG 3 is going to be about the soul stone? Cause with Adam warlock and such. I dunno. The stones are destroyed, but I get really confused about the time travel what happened and what didnt happen. But IF it is about the soul stone they maybe could find Gamora (and black widow 🤞🏼) in the stone. (This is me just wishful thinking.)
@Yoke103HD5 жыл бұрын
Not black widow, but they showed that quill is looking for her on the ship. the new gamora. However, I think it will be them looking for Gamora and then, because of how they set up Adam Warlock in GotG 2, he might just come out of nowhere and attack them.

I know that the plot hole at the end of the film may have been a result of the Russos, Markus and McFeely wanting to take a shortcut in the narrative, BUT it is not entirely out of a retcon scope. I think it can be explained that either Dr Strange or The Ancient One transported Steve to the original dimension to hand over the shield.

I used to be a big Doctor Who fan back during Matt Smith tenure, I never realized until it was mentioned in this video that Nebula was played by the same actor as Amy Pond. Just goes to show that Karen Gillam is a damn good actor. Honestly going forward in the MCU other than the Guardians as a whole, I'm mostly interested in how her arc will continue. That and how they'll handle the whole 'Gamora situation'.

all the talking about cap grabbing the hammer, we're bypassing thor saying at that moment 'I knew it' I fucking LOVE that. Just like GoT, Jorah saying 'i'm hurt'. Those short lines delivered with such emotion are PERFECT stabs in the heart of emotion. I saw cap grab the hammer and I lept out of my seat and when thor kinda whispers 'i knew it' I sat back down and welled up. It was like, thor had grown up so much. he wasn't jealous he wasn't surprised. he was happy. excited even, that his homie is also 'worthy' of something he himself had been worried about being worthy of. It was just such a poignant moment.

I like how Endgame works out perfectly so that Gaurdians 3 can continue the running joke of the on again off again relationship trope in tv. At the end of Gaurdians 2 and leading into Infinity War Quill and Gamora were more or less together, but now the relationship is reset because it's an earlier hardened version of Gamora that will be resistant to getting together with Quill. And it does it in a way that doesn't feel unearned.

I don't understand why people are hung up on the whole Cap in the past thing. As soon as he decided he'd be staying in the past with Peggy he created another, divergent universe. So the MCU going forward isn't the same universe we had previously. Everything that happened still happened, only now Cap was with Peggy the entire time. Dope.
@JoshuaKevinPerry5 жыл бұрын
No, when he put the stone back to when he got it, the alt timeline erased..
@ocskope5 жыл бұрын
@@JoshuaKevinPerry I think it has to be a different timeline. Otherwise, how do you get a Cap frozen and a Cap growing old with Peggy. It's just like Gamora and Nebula. They're from a different timeline.

Odin's spell on Mjolnir in thor 1 was "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of THOR!" meaning whoever is worthy. can wield mjolnir and will be able to control thor's lightning powers through the hammer. which is why Cap can summon lightning through the Hammer.

Marvel's time travel mechanics is a variation of the "many worlds" theory in QM where every particle is in a superposition until measured and then locks into a state... while all other possible outcomes then branch off into their own alternate world lines. So to go back and alter the past would cause a new time line to form off of the original one, which would remain unaffected by whatever change you make.

The criticism of the AoU post credit where Thanos gets the gauntlet not being consistent with the timeline, remember Thor 2 had happened meaning Loki had usurped Odin at that point in time and Etri had said Odin was supposed to protect them. With Odin out of the picture Thanks was able to get the gauntlet made and no one would check on Nidavalier. By the time we get to Ragnarok which the end credit is them running into Thanos, Odin still is gone so it absolutely tracks that Thanos got the gauntlet after AoU and no one was aware of the Dwarves at Nidavalier having been wiped out. It's actually funny because Loki made Thanos' plan in Infinity War possible.
