Not the most common thing to happen, but just bad timing and part of the business. This is the 4th time I can remember an issue like this in 17 years, it seemed to be more common 10 years ago when the cars weren't as user friendly, but just shows it all comes down to the end user.

@venom5809 5 жыл бұрын
@Lamborghini gallardo How do you know what the outcome will be? There's a reason attorneys and courts exist. It's perfectly reasonable for the average person on a jury or a judge that knows nothing about supercars to find it implausible that a transmission would burnout after only 100 miles and rule in the renter's favor.
@themanic6575
@themanic6575 5 жыл бұрын
1. From my understanding the clutch is controlled electronically and the driver has no control. This seems like Volkswagen's responsibility. If the computer destroys the clutch in stop and go traffic it is not the renter's fault. 2. Rob bought this vehicle used. Who is to say the first owner discovered the clutch was defective and wearing down quickly so they sold it as 72% to avoid repairs. Rob drove it around to get pictures and the defective clutch went to 10% when the first renter used it. The renter drives around the city not knowing about the ticking bomb. In this video Rob said that he blew a Lamborghini clutch while loading a vehicle. Who is to say that Rob didn't damage the clutch on this vehicle while loading it on the truck. The renter was driving under 60mph. Sounds like a giant "he said, she said" scenario to me.

The Manic So so SO true, so many factors to play into this. Rob rented out a car that has clutch issues, knowing it had them and knew that it would go after “20k Miles” as he stated. Does that mean that whatever joe-blow is driving the car at the 20,000 mile mark is responsible for the clutch repair? The renter should not have to pay for a clutch that could have gone in anyone’s possession; especially if Rob didn’t specifically tell him “hey the clutch on this can go bad if you do ________.” Hope the renter lawyers up.
@hydranes
@hydranes 5 жыл бұрын
@@themanic6575 The car is indeed a manual. The driver inputs the gear selection and the clutch is automated. Knowing how a manual works is key, as rob mentioned. Going at any speeds in any gear where the clutch would not be 100% (dis)engaged is entirely under the discretion of the driver. This car can definitely do city driving, and barring the idea of a defective clutch like you mentioned (which I doubt), this sounds like a typical case of someone who is only familiar with automatics and does some erroneous driving such as driving in stop-and-go traffic in third gear.

If the clutch wasn't good when he got it, and he just happened to be the guy with the hot potato when the clutch finally gave way its a different scenario. That is why I mentioned that since this was the first rental we had a clutch readout as a baseline from the purchase, removes any question of fault. To everyone complaining about how they don't understand how the clutch can go in 100 miles; listen up: You're in stop start traffic. In a normal torque converter automatic you gently ease off the brake and the car inches forwards, yes? Well this isn't a torque converter automatic, it has a single plate clutch, and if you hold the brake pedal and inch forwards you're not fully engaging or disengaging the clutch, you're just biting and slipping it, causing friction on it, which causes it to heat up. Same thing as if you were in a manual car and held the clutch pedal half way down and started pushing the accelerator for any duration of time, you'd tear the clutch to shreds. If this were for a split second you'd be fine, but heat in a clutch is exponential, once it starts heating up it heats up fast. So him sitting inching forwards in traffic for say half an hour, easing off the brake and inching the car forwards without actually taking his foot off the brake pedal is going to melt the clutch, it's just two metal disks rubbing against each other, they're supposed to be either not touching, or completely pressed together. The solution, as Rob says if he "knew how to drive it" he would have sat with his foot on the brake, and not moved an inch until there was room for him to completely let off the brake and move forwards, and then come to a complete stop again, not inching with the brake pedal. Alternatively, not drive a fucking Aventador through a gridlock. I honestly don't understand why you're all subscribed to an automotive youtuber if you can't work any of that out for yourself, but there's your explanation anywho.

It's basically race technology that can't handle the rigors of street driving. Any other clutch is not going to be roasted after 100 miles of stop and go traffic-even if you're "inching along up to the next car". Unless you're revving and slipping the clutch the whole time you're not going to have any problem-and the electronic controls should be able to apply the clutch better than any human. Point is Lamborghini is selling a car that's not really suited for what a large number of people are going to use it for. A clutch life (under optimal conditions) of 20K may be fine for a race car, but that's unacceptable for a street vehicle where the replacement cost is $15K. If a 750 HP Corvette ZR1 can make a clutch that's good for 100K miles of street driving and costs less than 5K to replace, that tells you that there's a problem.

If a car is not suitable for a road car it shouldn’t be rented? We have lots of cars in Europe with transmissions like that, French people carriers and tiny hatch backs. It’s practically entrapment to rent this to someone and then charge them because it’s a crap design. If I rented a car in the uk and the transmission took a shit no way am I paying for that!

why would a customer be on the hook for paying for the clutch? He didn't go over 60 jesus... I'd say the car failed on him and you owe him another rental plus an appology for the hassle. Revving a cold car the way you did is more reckless than driving the damn thing in traffic

I could be wrong, but I think he just lost his deposit. I don't think he has to pay for the actual clutch replacement. Either way it's probably in the contract he signed. Considering he was shown what not to do and how he should drive it, I would say it's completely understandable to lose his deposit. Again, I could be wrong though.

@@DCUK6 I see what you're saying but an Aventador is not a normal "road" car. I'm sure back when they rented out the Ford GT, or any other manual transmission car there was probably something in the contract about the clutch. Completely understandable to do the same sort of the thing in the contract for an Aventador in my opinion.

You should have dash cams on all rentals for both the drivers protection and your own. What if he truly only drove the car regularly, you said he never went over 60 mph? Unless he was being completely reckless which would have to be proven, I don't feel this guy is responsible for replacing the entire clutch. What if the 70% rating was not correct? For that to happen you should have a dash cam with sound to review only in the case of an accident or something like this happening.

In the pre trip and contracts signed I'm sure the renter has to acknowledge they have been fully informed how to properly drive the vehicle.

frederic duwe usually full price. Its not really an insurable claim because it’s driver error, but even if it was, exotic rental insurance is extremely difficult to obtain and maintain so you make one, they’ll pay out but probably not renew your policy. That’s why you pay your deposit but they want to know your credit limit, so some will pull a credit report and if need be, sue you in civil court. They’re not gonna let you blow a 20k dollar clutch and only keep your deposit.
