For this walk, we will be on Avenue U in the Sheepshead Bay and Gravesend sections of Brooklyn. Starting on Nostrand Avenue in front of Brennan and Carr, we will make our way through the busy streets with plenty of traffic and people to see throughout the walk.
Avenue U is a commercial avenue, lined with many retail establishments, grocery stores, pharmacies, and more. We will pass by a good amount of pizza places - Avenue U has alot to offer when it comes to pizza! We will pass some old school Italian butchers and bakeries - including one of my all time favorites. The avenue also has some old homes that dot the road from time to time.
The walk takes place on a comfortable Spring-like day around noon time. There will be some traffic congestion at times, along with a good amount of pedestrian traffic to make for a busy walk. Come along for this commentary walk along Avenue U, and as always, Thanks for taking the walk with me!

I grew up in Canarsie but my grandparents up until I was about 8 lived in the apartment building on Bedford and U. I always loved that neighborhood. I even traveled there to my Barber John's Hairstyle for quite some time i think he was on U between 26th and 27th

I'm with you. The smells that come from the pizzerias and bakeries on the west side of Ave. U are wonderful. I was watching for salumerias. There were two of them between W 5th and W 8th streets when I was a kid. All the neighborhood women would go to them on Sunday mornings for the finishing touches for their Sunday dinners. I would go in with my grandmother and take in those smells. They were pungent and so appetizing!

Is L&B and some of the other pizza places as good as they were in the old days? I have a feeling they may have been dreck-ified and are similar to what passes for pizza in Texas.

Krispy Pizza on 13th Avenue is my go to spot. Still the same after all these years. L & B is still good in my opinion. Is it as great as 30 years ago? I mean - I really can't remember exactly how good something was that long ago. I can only say if something has gotten so bad, it needs mentioning. But L & B is still good for sure.

@@StrideWarrior​​⁠​⁠I guess not much is as good or as big as it was 40 years ago. Good to hear that L&B is still good. If I ever make it back I’ll definitely go to L&B and Krispy Pizza. Thanks for the visit back to the old neighborhood. It’s a real mind excursion.
