I have a love/hate relationship with Chinese drama writers. Most of the time I can ignore outrageous plots or silly characters. I accept them as part of the deal, along with the stuff I do like. The enjoyment outweighs the cringe. Sometimes, a particular scenario or character really, really annoys me...at which point I may leave a comment somewhere, saying why I ditched, then I move on. It would never occur to me to blame an actor for a drama's failings, however. Their main function is to be the 'puppet' of the director/scriptwriter. At best they get input on the interpretation of scenes. Maybe it's my age, but I learned long ago to distinguish between the character and the actor. Even with actors I like, there are drama's I abandon. eg. I like Zhen Yi Cheng but one or two of his drama's leave me cold, and that's perfectly OK. I will still check out his next one. I also have little interest in an actor's personal life. Who, having reached maturity, has not made moral or emotional mistakes at some point? The difference with celebrities is that they are forced to do it in public. I look back at certain times in my own life and cringe, but nobody was pointing a camera at me or hacking my email., then broadcasting it to the world. I can bury the event. Actors cannot. People need to be able to divorce actor from role. I'm not saying that actors do not have some responsibility for morality, because some of the young people who follow them have not yet reached a level of maturity to be able to make reasoned life choices. But unless someone is consistently going out there committing murder or spouting vitriol, we really need to accept that they have feet of clay, just like the rest of us. I can appreciate the beauty of Wagner's music, without approving of his world view. From what I understand regarding Chinese dramaland, attacking actors is big business and often based around endorsement revenue. Instead of focussing on the morality of actors, the powers that be would do better to focus on endorsement policy. I think this would remove some of the incentive for back stabbing. Of course, there will always be individuals willing to destroy others, but their power will be more limited without big business behind them.

I like this drama because of YM and XK. Love the chemistry. It is so easy for YM to be the professional career oriented woman and use her charms to get things done at the same time. Her way of handling the mother in law is so awesome 😊Avenue X is point on in saying she’s very relaxed with her role. XK is funny without being funny.

This is my second modern Cdrama, and second Xu Kai Cdrama after Wonderland of Love. I am on episode 31 and I ❤❤❤ this. It is hilarious, and heartwarming. I hope they stick the landing. I love Xu Kai's voice, it is so soothing and appealing.

I always appreciate the insights you bring to dramaland both with regard to the stories, actors and their roles as well as the surrounding realities that take place in the entertainment business. Like you, I'm having a good laugh at this drama and appreciate things like how the FL takes on her 'husband's' mother, how the ML does the housework and other litle thoughful gestures, how relaxed she is in his company when they are at home. I enjoy the character of her young assistant who is dating the ex. Now if anyone is morally bankrupt here it's him.

My favorite Xu Kai drama is Arsenal Military Academy where he plays a bad boy, who slowly reforms as he begins to take the mission seriously. There are lots of hilarious scenes along the way mixed with comradeship and escapades. In this, he's so shy and introverted that his acting surprises me. Also, I think it's amusing that he keeps the house neat and his roommate is a slob.

I totally agree with you on the downside of this drama being not closely relating to reality in terms of professional atmosphere. Lawyers/attorneys work really hard. In professional setup that much hard work in any field demands great dedication and challenges the work and regular life balance. So yes, they weren't portrayed as clean, professional, short haired ladies rather they looked like the goddesses from the glamour world. However, this in my opinion is acceptable here because the drama is actually a fairy tale which also happens to be my favourite as well. 😊

Yang Mi isn’t my favorite actress but she is beautiful and I feel she really shines in this role and it fits her perfectly. I’m loving the show and the outfits she wears. Im also a fan of Xu Kai and think he looks so good with more weight. I can’t believe people complain about his weight. He looked so handsome in Ancient Love Poetry. Both leads look great but they do look super duper thin.

Thanks for the review, yes, it's really, really sad when attacks on whoever happen.. What a pity. I'm watching it and enjoying it enormously. Yang Mi just inhabits that role, she's such a natural actress, really lovely to watch. Xu kai too, I think I know a few young men like him.. Lol. While the plot may have some holes or the settings not quite realistic, the whole thing is done well, with great panache. I mean... What is realistic about a contract marriage...? Also, I suppose, dramas are not exactly documentaries, they have to glam it up a bit, don't mind that. In real life, very good looking people are fairly rare too, lol!

I find Yang Mi's character here in this drama kind of analogous to her character in "Eternal Love" in that her characters in both are this cool female (one is as a god in some fantastic universe, the other as a female lawyer in a contemporary setting) whose actions aren't influenced by her male romantic lead who, in contrast, seem to be at her beck and call in spite of themselves. Did they attack and criticize her and her character in "Eternal Love"? Seems to me that what you described as happening to Yang Mi could be a story/plot of a C-drama in and of itself. I think people in China (or in general) don't like a woman who is too successful and always find ways and means to bring her down a notch or two. Sooo typical!

I am so happy to find this channel because I want to find more reviews on Cdramas. I started Cdrama this January and She and Her Perfect Husband is my first Cdrama. I was looking for mature C drama and She and Her Perfect Husband was a list mentioned in KZbin. Was hooked from first episode! I love the bold, take-charge career women storyline and the dynamics between Qin Shi & Li Dai. The romance between Qin Shi and Yang Hua isn't as aggressive as romance in kdrama but tender. Yang Hua understood his assignment as collaborator / partner to Qin Shi's ascension to corporate throne. I wasn't familiar with any Chinese actors but I think Xu Kai's portrayal of Yang Hua is perfect. I like that he was soft but strong (not a doormat) and affectionate in his own ways.

Honestly, I work in a small company and the AR guy NEVER talks about his family. It took four years before I even found out he was married with kids. I've never seen them, no pictures, and he never talks about them hahaha. If my boss hadn't mentioned it in passing (he's been working with her for at least a decade) I think I'd have never known. So I believe people not knowing anything about her fake husband.

i watched SAHPH drama episodes that were released repeatedly, though the release of latest episodes halted due to some national related incident. Aside from i like the storyline and the excitement it brings, i am also a fan of both xu kai and yang mi. so having them do this drama together is dream come true for me, besides they look good together. the chemistry is undeniable. so i really dont care about all those negativities being thrown at them specifically on yang mi. But why would that halt the release of episodes of this drama? If anything, they actually release the rest of the episodes until the ending to distract those who were under lockdown.

Is a drama for entertainment? Yes. The entertainment value of this drama is good. I don't understand why some nit pic so much. Our lives are so mundane that to be entertained and taken to a different world through entertainment is all one could ask. Of course there is no perfect drama. Some are down right cliche and copying everyone else. To each to their own. Personally I don't like Chinese contemporary drama's that much. This one is focusing on the glitz and glamour with a side twist. I am enjoying it and that's all that counts. Peace♥

I'm enjoying it for whatever reason. That's good enough. I like the humor a lot. That said, I worked in an IT position for 8 years. I socialized in the company. No one ever questioned that I was married with kids. I never had any pictures of my wife or kids at my desk and no one ever met my wife or kids. I don't do FB or social media and just told my co-workers that we don't like social media. So it isn't that far fetched about the unseen husband thing.

I love both this drama and new life begins and I are mesmerized by their portraits of non toxic male leads and strong female characters that still feels relatable. I had never watched a drama with Yang Mi before, but I love her character in this role a ton! The only thing I don't like is Xu Kai not being the best actor, but even that seems to be better as the characters shapes. It's one of my favorite contemporary drama for a long time. And I feel as if She and her perfect husband and New life begins were fated to air simultaneously weaving the stories together. Absolutely adore them!

This drama is so funny! Loving it. For me, Yang Mi is a fabulous actress, she makes women look good. I didn't realise before, but she can go from super gorgeous looking young woman, to a professional super competent sophisticated lawyer woman. They emphasize the age difference with Xu Kai's untidy hairdo with bangs making him look like a teenager while she always looks super well groomed. But their age gap is not obvious with their conversational interactions. Cancel culture needs something to latch onto, in this case, it won't work, cos there is nothing to criticise about her in this one. She's completely en pointe.

I'm loving this one,!! And that doesn't happen a lot when I pick dramas. The law firm place and the clothes don't make sense but I like the choice a lot, makes it easier to watch and portray differently that they have money. My only critic is that the male protagonist isn't either a great character or the actor isn't that good (my prior drama had this same no face expression type of guy and it's boring). I do wonder how TF they'll fix the fake child thing, we'll see...

I just watched a rant review of this show, did not go the morality route, but focused on the troppy unrealistic plot and lack of logic. I am unable to enjoy a contemporary drama with these flaws unless it is over the top unrealistic and clearly for fun only. My mind keeps analyzing and criticizing, so bad that my mom stopped watching with me, saying I would ruin her fun.

I enjoyed this drama a lot. I watched it until episode 34. I liked how there were no unnecessary misunderstandings. The main characters speak about the conflicts and issues in a mature manner which was lovely to see for a change. Spoiler(?) I heard this changes in the last episodes; suddenly he doesn't talk to her openly which leads to misunderstandings and their breakup. Then they meet again in the last five minutes which doesn't feel satisfying. This is why I stopped watching at episode 34.

I totally agree! This type of accusing the actor for their character's misbehavior shows a total lack of understanding of the business. Actors get paid to act and most actors do not have the luxury of refusing roles, even those who might be able to have to consider the possibility that a refusal may place them lower on the list for the next role. I have seen four episodes so far and am enjoying the show.

to be honest I was excited when this drama first came out, but , I don't think it's that good so far. Im glad we get to hear xu kai's actual voice, but that's really the only plus-xu kai. And half the time, he's not on screen-it's mainly about the FL, who I have nothing against. It's just so much of the story gets bogged down down by her brother and sister-in-law's terrible, toxic relationship (that the writing is encouraging them to stay in...????), the petty ex, the absurd law firm rule about partners' married status, the ML's mom, etc. So much of it just feels like filler-and it's not really to the point of being funny, it's to the point of my eyes glazing over and me background watching all those scenes. kind of disappointed-the story's not that good, we see virtually the same sets all the time, every episode feels a little bit of a rinse and repeat of the same thing, and the CPs chemistry isn't that good! (this could change with new episodes, but this is my opinion as of now!)

Yup, you see these sort of attacks and countermeasures. Like lately, it seems someone is hating on Bai Lu, almost every day, or every time a new article comes out, it will be about how she does not look pretty, it likes she will never be pretty in this or that. The funny thing is she does not look that bad, and to the actress the article compares to, they are not much different, it is not like the moon and the earth for anyone to say. So the point of those articles are just smeared/negative campaign, it likes if they say the actress is not pretty every day, she will turn not pretty eventually >_> you see these attacks on Yang Mi as well. Whereas the other 3, ZLY, YZ and the one who can’t act (that should just be in mv lawl), it will always be about how pretty they are, even when it’s pretty meh. Or if there is a negative article about them, for the next 3 days, it will be positive article about them 😒 or articles that sound like it’s a bad one about them, but they will end with : but so and so can improve, we should wait and support them. Meanwhile, the other is like lol, they need to stop trying to be pretty, and go back to a hole 😡

I followed Xu Kai's drama for a good few months and knew that they had finished production but you know things happen and the drama is taking a pretty long time which made me feel less excited for it but maybe I'll take the chance to watch this

Avenue X mentioned how after two years no one had actually seen the husband. What gets me is no one has seen this 2 year old kid she supposedly has. There’s not even a picture in the office. That’s the part that got to me most. Seriously, her baby, her child, lives in another country and she never sees him. No one ever questioned that? Having the character also have a “child” in addition to the “husband” is too much.

The children often living with grandparents/relatives/ or even send to school boarding because their parents are so busy. They just see each other only on holidays. Beside that, some families are so private with their live and doesn't let people to know more about their family.

well she does try to cover it up by saying her child is ill and is receiving treatment overseas, not only so, she often mentions her "child" to her clients or her boss to keep herself in the role of a married woman and a mother, maybe you didnt see the quick scene where she empathizes with a number of female cilents who she is working their divorce for on child custody problems, i was laughing like hell when that scene went by

and maybe you dont understand why she has to lie about this whole husband and child thing, cause this is actually an unspoken rule of most asian societies, in this case especially the chinese working society for career women, the companies will reject woman who over the age of around 26-30 and still single cause they are scared that these women will delay work of they have to get married in the future while in the company, and not only so, if you are just married with no children, they will assume that you will have plans to have children and get pregnant and then they will have to endure losses due to maternity leave and all that associated if the event happens, so basically if you are a woman in china over the age of 30, single and with no kids, companies will not accept you and you wont be able to get a decent job, and being the female lead, qinshi who is smart and has good grades will not settle for an ordinary job at an ordinary law firm, so her uni senior helped her make this story up inorder to land her a job at one of the best law firms in shanghai

@@juneyang1671 I understand lying about the husband. I just think adding a child was unnecessary. Hiring a nanny or someone full time makes more sense than just sending your child away. For me it just didn’t sit right and is not a favorable look for the character. It’s just my opinion of a character based on my feelings and western viewpoint. Although I imagine even children in foreign countries wouldn’t be tickled with having been sent away at birth.

@@jaestone9427 well, in the drama she made it seem like she had to do so for the child's condition, cause the setting she gave to her fake child was that he had to be overseas because her husband was also working overseas, and she couldnt look after the child alone cause she was a career woman and the child's illness required treatment overseas so she had no choice to do so, well you dont really have to take this fake setting so seriously cause she did this basically just to prove to her boss that she is very serious about her work and that she is very loyal to the law firm and will not let anything distract her from working for her boss and the law firm(but the female lead is not a real mom who sent her child overseas at birth, she is just using this lie to prove her loyalty to her boss and she is a very responsible person in her personal life so this situation will not exist in her life but only as a made up story)
