That would be a good one. All I know is that I had to move from California to Texas so that I could afford to buy a new modest home in the San Antonio area back in 2011. May wife and I bought a home a year after we moved to San Antonio in 2012 for $170k. That would have been impossible in California. So the cost of living in Texas back then was way less. Now it's getting bad even here in Texas (prices of home and everything else 😢)

I’m in the pipe trades and have been making $150,000 to $200,000 a year for 20 years. I remember a girlfriends father telling me that I would never make any money because I didn’t have a college education. Well that relationship didn’t workout and I now realized just how stupid he was. Find a trade become excellent in it then work hard. Don’t listen to the negativity of jealous haters. That think they know everything. They are dogmatic in their beliefs and can sound convincing even when they are wrong. Keep your eyes on the prize it’s within your reach. Don’t waste time or money put it to work for you and you will be truly free.

Totally agree with you. 225k a year income earner here. I get health insurance, retirement, and other benefits. I am at work right now wearing my 2 year old slip on, walmart socks, cargo shorts from Ross, free company t-shirt and hat. No college, not even a trade school. I don't manage anything. I got a skill that's valuable and I charge 1200 dollars plus my benefits a day. I'm not rich but I'm free. Car breaks down, kid goes to the hospital, water heater goes out, etc. Just pay the bill. My job is hard but my life is easy.

Thanks Adam, I like your channel. At about 1:42 into you video you noted how the incomes appear to have increased by 25% in the last five years. I suspect there are a few driving factors for this. Modest salary increases in part accelerated by inflation, but maybe more importantly lower paid jobs saw high losses during COVID and folks decided not to return to them later. So, if fewer people are working in low paying jobs, then it drives the income numbers up on paper (as opposed to everyone is making more money) . I wonder to what extent previously low paid workers from 5 years ago found higher paid jobs vs just left the workforce altogether?

Service worker stats are also skewed. This data is reported income. Many service workers do not report all of their tips. And tips are a very large portion of their income. Any unreported tips is also tax free.

Good run down. Geography plays a major part too. The cost of living in different places makes the salary scale different. It usually costs more to live in a larger city than in a small town and more in coastal states than in the middle of the country. I know I moved from a small town in west Texas to San Diego, California for a job making approximately the same amount of dollars per year. What was a pretty decent living in one place was broke in the other place due to the difference in cost of living.

Nowadays it seems like anywhere that's considered "desirable" to a large number of people is going to be expensive. Granted everyone's definition of a desirable place to live varies, but generally speaking it feels like if it's affordable it's either because large swaths of people don't want to live there or the masses haven't discovered it yet. And that being said I'm not making knock on any given place, it's just an observation.

I live in Central Indiana and 42 and I am self employed my fiancee and I were messing around to see what I could possibly make if I were to close my business. I applied for 18 jobs in skill trades, amazon, local energy providers, communications, and logistics companies.I had 3 offers for just at $20, 9 offers for between $15-$20, and 3 for under $15. 3 didn't respond to my resume. I also don't know many people that make over $1000 per week. Alot more people making well under $1000 per week than over. Maybe indiana is lagging behind the curve but after looking at tesla, ford, general motors, Amazon's wages online im calling bull $hit on 56k per year is average for an Americans annual income.

Production supervisor, retail supervisor, truck driver, law enforcement officer, etc... You can make 50-60k without a degree, but you need to either: get promoted over the years, hard manual labor, or learn very important skills. These are jobs where you can make that much CONSISTENTLY.

I dont know what people are on…i live in Nc as a caregiver..i started a quick cna program where i had to take the classes in the nursing home where i had to work as well and the program was a couple months..anyways i left like 6 months later to be a personal caregiver and i quickly found a job taking care of an older couple for 22/h..about 5 months later right now i got bumped up to 30/h..with a few hours of overtime here and there im at 60k a year…not that its amazing but its not bad and im pretty sure my cna didnt have anything to do with it..point is its not too hard to find a good job with no schooling…jobs are out there..

​@Todd Nishimoto college can work out if you have a plan. A lot of the problem with the college system are students taking out loans immediately and then not being that interested in the field they spent 4 years studying at the end of it (if they even finish). College isnt that expensive if you go to a community college the first 2 years and finish up at a state university. And have a long term plan such as choosing a field/industry with strong future job growth. But definitely trades are a great way to go with a lot of earnings potential. And there is definitely a point to be made whether it's more worth it to spend those 4-5 years working and getting experience vs spending that time in a classroom and then starting out at an entry level. In my field there are a lot of people in management and upper management without degrees who do very well too. Experience is super valuable in industry.

I’m an electrical engineer. I love what I do but I would have been better off skipping college and being an electrician. Also as a designer, AI will take my job a lot sooner than it will a trade job. AND I still have student loan debt. Luckily I went to CC for my associates and paid for much of school out of pocket. I graduated with about 26k in debt which is better than most of my classmates. Still wish I would have went the trade school route instead.
