They might be average and white, but they have above average black vocals. What's mind-blowing to me is that they're not even American. They're from Scotland.

Mind blowing is, that you think, good Music must come from the US. The truth is, that there is so much Funk and Soul Music in Europe... Many you know and even dont know it. 🤷‍♂️

I am so blessed to have seen them perform this live on their "Soul Searchin" tour in 1975/76. It has followed me to this day, and I'm 66. Some of the best funk/soul ever. A bunch of mostly white guys from Scotland. Go figure!

Whenever I hear “A Love Of Your Own” it takes me back to about 1980 when I jumped on my old racing bike & cycled off down the canal path one evening with that song playing on my Walkman cassette player & was truly transported into another zone !…..well in fact I was listening to a whole tape of AWB & they still blow me away today !

Hey my brother BizMatik, This is some serious "slow-dancing" and "baby-making" music!!! Average White Band (a.k.a. AWB) has so much soul running through their veins that it drips out of their pores like some "funky" sweat!!! Up next from them should be "CUT THE CAKE"

SCHOOLBOY CRUSH...live @ House of Blues. Hardly nothing better...u might have already done a version. Such great memories of this band...SO strong. Also try a complimentary soul burner (from the huuuuge movie Car Wash-1976)...Rose Royce "I Wanna Get Next to You". The 70's were such a bounty of soul and funk. We were blessed.. As a middle-class class Florida white girl who used to listen to Chicago radio @ 2 am on a transistor radio under the covers when I was 10...in the 60's. Carla Thomas, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Junior Walker, Booker T...and on & on....perfectly positioning myself for the uber-abundance of the 70's explosion.

I've gotten to see them live a few times in small venues and what a show they put on. Plus, Hamish Stuart is in Ringo's All-Star band and we saw them in August. The live version of this in Montreux 1977 is great.

Just discovered your channel but immediately noticed your Haitian flag in the background--I have much love and respect for the Haitian people, I lived and worked in Port au Prince, Haiti for two years--I ran an anti-kidnapping team working alongside the La Cellule Contre Enlèvement (CCE) of the Haitian National Police from 2012-2014--I will forever have a special place in my heart for Haiti and it's people--back to the Average White Band and A Love of Your Own--I grew up with their music--I was in my sophomore year of HS when the song came out--saludos from Phoenix.

I'm 67 and got these Bad Boys LP's they are Badass!!!!!! I was and is still into rock then and now. The music back then was on point it was nice and clean no cursing nobody was killing each other battling over LPS or 45 it was just downright home and yes this type of music is going to be new to the Young generation I hate to say it but y'all have no idea what you missed !!! I found a store in spring Texas this year that sold LPS 45 records cassettes I walked in that store and I had to sit down I feel like I had hit the jackpot!!!!!

That's a good version and the crowd is really getting into the song. I think their live version of Cut the Cake from their live Person to Person album is really the best version. It is a little longer and funkier. Check out the song Cloudy from that live album too. That song sounds completely different from their studio version. It's much better!
