Chris you made an excellent decision getting content from Andrew. You gave me a new calling. Everyday I'm back on street wheels. 10 miles of practice everyday. I've seen people slide but this is a different beast. I do miss being able to hop off-road, and carve like I'm on heroine with the puenamics though. You should do a video on you and Ricky's progress in this new journey.

I don't recommend doing 25mph + with a loose twin king pin. These are next level disciplines. Know your limits, then go for it. I get him, Just a few points on safety. Please wear the appropriate protection when learning. Good insights. I test all Psychotiller builds in so cal. Its my job. I stand behind their release. Otherwise we don't ship it.Practically everything is geared for high acceleration. Learn how to fall! It's not a random practice. If you understand that there are 2 ways of falling. Straight or goofy. You will find that your tendencies will determine your action. I can't emphasize it enough, learning to fall, is more important than foot skills lessons. I got my lessons from wisdom( hard bad slams). Knowing what to do is empowering, you can break more barriers then. E-boarding is very different than kick skate. Falling in excess of 40mph is no joke. I want you alive! And to come in when your needs are more than what is out there. Not a plug, just saying. Sk8 like your dying!

Hehe I did the exact opposite. Make it as tight als possible still barely able to go around a street corner. Put on big wide wheels so I avoid sliding. Over time I learned to turn better so I put on even harder bushings. When you are going 40mph+ you really don’t want loose trucks. I feel like this video fails to say that this applies to slow carve boards but not every board in general.

@@Zachsnotboard downhill people also ride with minimal safety equipment going around corners on the wrong side of the road. just because you can do it doesn't mean its a good idea. If you Esk8 every day for commuting you don't want to be super focused on balancing and looking at the road all the time. You need a stable board that doesn't throw you of if you make a small Mistake.

@tech518b9
@tech518b9 3 жыл бұрын
@@Zachsnotboard in some ways the e board world can learn something from downhill split angles and stuff like that but in other ways it also creates very uniqe problems. You downhill guys have the freedom of choosing your stance you want to stand pretty freely (most weight forward and so on). On e boards you often end up with most of your weight on the back foot when accelerating with like 6kW (8hp) and when you have loose trucks with most weight on you back bad things happen. Im not saying you cant have lose trucks but most of the high power DIY board riders preflare hard bushings. The boards in this videos are Toys compared to whats around in the DIY world.

Hi two questions please :) If you do a full 180 slide, do you have to switch to reverse on the controller as you come out of it, or does the board automatically go into reverse, also, have you put harder yellow wheels on the back end of your board to help it slide? Thanks, Steve G :)

Important one question for me : are the slides possible "free-wheeling" or is throttle (consistent as you mentioned) necessary ?
@yiparoo

They're possible free wheeling but you'll loose a lot of momentum, so yes, the throttle is needed (especially when doing the on flat)

Much appreciated this video ! Wow awesome riding Andrew ! This is what i want to be able to do (again) on my Evolve GTR i just bought this week. I used to skate in the 80's and 90's , so i'm used to pretty large decks (no double tails back then) . I was really enjoying sliding, hitting the top of a curb and throwing my weight into it and just slide/carve across the top ! power slides are also great for stopping at high speeds. 360 slides also ; commitment is the trick i guess.. Are the ABEC 11 F1 wheels any good for sliding ?? I remember a podcast little while back where you guys mentioned that these were quite "slippery"? (also read the comment below on the Caguamas wheels !) Loosening my trucks ASAP ;-)

I always think what is the point in double kingpin trucks if you're just going to get the hardest bushings and tighten her all the way? DKP trucks are so much fun when loose. The advice seems sound if you're used to tight.

@BeanieBread
@BeanieBread 2 жыл бұрын
aye homie as for carving/turning in a gravel patch it will not turn out good. if you absolutely have to go in one you have to bend your knees and lower yourself as far as u can comfortably and "brace" for it. try to hit it slower because if its a large gravel patch your board can completely stop, but if its smaller those tips should help.

Yeah, if you push too hard too soon, but if you push yourself gradually and stay aware of your limits, it's going to help you progress. Alot of what he said also relates to street skating and this is how I would progress. You're never guaranteed not to fall, but like I said, if you know your limits, you will get hurt less.

@@aldousbwilson Um, no, that does not even remotely follow. That is a totally false dichotomy. There is no forced choice between sliding and not skating! And even if there were, that has nothing to do with whether this video is about what it purports to be about: tips for safer skating. It's not. Claiming that loosening trucks makes downhill skating safer in general is absurd. It only becomes an issue if you are talking about sliding (not all downhill is sliding) and even then is debatable.
@AustinSteingrube
@AustinSteingrube Жыл бұрын
Actually, I think this is one of the better tip videos you can have. I grew up in Colorado where snowy and icy roads are an issue. What I did as a kid was find roads without houses and cars and purposefully make my car lose traction on the icy roads. I very quickly learned the limits of my car, how to recover when the car lost control, and was made a much better driver as a result of it. Those practice sessions taught me more than thousands of hours on a dry road and have saved my rear more times than I can count in nearly two decades of driving. At least from my viewpoint, this type of practice is extraordinarily important less for tricks and more for understanding how to get out of sticky situations. If you ride a lot, you are going to encounter things like gravel on turns, cars and people popping out unexpectedly, and pot holes and large cracks you didn’t see until the last second. If anything, you’ll learn when to bail vs try to avoid a hazard and be safer for it.

Loosening the trucks does not "make you more familiar with the limits of the board", it only changes those limits! That's not the same thing. Also, loosening trucks has absolutely nothing to do with traction. It would be one thing if you were advocating for loosening the trucks as a learning device, then tightening them back up, but that is not what is being advocated here. Also, what does sliding even have to do with the subject here? This seems to be a video on tips to develop slides which is fine, but it's simply not a set of tips to reduce falling.
