Avery Elle vs Cheap CD Pockets for Die/Stamp Storage
As promised I have a comparison of the Avery Elle die storage pockets vs the cheap CD envelopes I got on amazon
The CD pockets were smaller and the sides are not as strong as the Avery Elle but I think they will do nicely for lighter duty storage.
The plastic they were made of seemed to the the same thickness and materiel.

Hi Lindsay, I bought (about a year ago, so not sure who the seller was) some plastic DVD sleeves exactly like the Avery Elle ones on ebay. The plastic was just as thick and they mesuared exactly the same. I got a 200 pack for $12! I haven't used them all up bc I had purchase Avery Elle packets before that. You really have to try hard to even notice the difference, no joke! Just a frugal tip (: -Edith

Use the cd pockets for shaker pockets with your fuse tool;)

I made my own out of page protectors, I used my photo fuse to close them, I could make my pockets to custom fit my stamps!

craftymetooo Same thing I do! I started making "pockets" on the page protectors that would be the perfect size for whatever stamp I wanted to fit in them and had them in binders. Then I decided if I could have them like that, it might work to "size" them the same way with a heat tool and keep them in boxes/containers so I could get rid of the binders and it worked.

At first I thought the Avery Elle felt flimsy, but after I got my stamps in them and pulled them in and out a few times it seems that they will hold up. I found a fridge bin at Ross and keep my smaller sets in there now. Definitely easy to flip through!

The CD ones could be a good use for shaker cards, cheaper than window sheets. Since you can tear them easily be easy to cut.

Just as another idea... I bought some vinyl record sleeves for my stencils and stamps off of Ebay for cheaper. You can get them with a flap or without. They come in different sizes and different mils of thickness. I love them for my stencils because I keep all my stencils in a drawer and this way they don't get tangled on each other. I do love this style of organizing stamps. Thanks for the video Lindsay!

thanks for the comparison I got a package of the Avery Elle but they rip as well and I was being careful, i;m ure mine were made on a monday as we say in the netherlnads, faulty batch, i;ve ordered others now without the flap

You know I respect and love the fact that when something is cheap crap you actually call it CHEAP CRAP rather than make excuses and let the low price alone determine whether something is worthy. I am not as frugal as I should be but I do love a good deal however, there is no way that cheap is always best or that we should make allowances for items made poorly just because they came from the dollar store. I get so tired of bloggers/KZbinrs proudly wearing their "Ms. Cheapskate" sash while flying their "price always trumps quality" flag. Sometimes it pays to get the better constructed item and pay a little more. Buying cheap CD envelopes rather than spending a few dollars more on Avery Elle is a penny saved a pound foolish yet I know there is a someone out there who is talking up the CD envelopes, giving tips on how to keep them from ripping- like DON"T put anything in them and they are great or use 3 rolls of packing tape to reinforce them cuz the extra 200 hours needed to do that is fun time- and how to deal with their smaller size-buy only tiny stamps. If the goal is neatly organized stamps than the fact that the stamps look like crap now in their reinforced envelopes is not good. In this case, it's better to wait a little longer to save the cash to buy the better made product.

Danee Kaplan You said it. Cheap vs Quality, Quality wins every time. I love a good deal but, there have been so many times when I have saved that dollar and regretted it later because I had to go back and buy the better quality item. So much for saving a buck. Spent twice as much for what. CHEAP CRAP.

Danee Kaplan yes, i would recommend the AveryElles, I guess there was a pack called DVD sleeves and I should have got that but I was going on a verified reviewer on amazon to get these, I should have measured my AEs before I bought, oh well, none of my viewers will make that mistake LOL!

Danee Kaplan Expensive isn’t always best. My Mum used to say, your eye is your merchant, look at things, if there really isn’t much between them then try the cheaper one. Lindsay did that but, they weren’t the same, different size etc etc. so we shouldn’t discard the cheaper things as very often they can turn out the best deal.

I use the Check Out brand from Amazon. They come in the same sizes as the Avery Elle and are good quality. They are not advertised as chores dvd pockets but as storage sleeves. I have used them for two years.

On ebay they have the pockets that t are thesamesize as the avery elle. They are dvd sleeves. I have never had a problem with them ripping. Hope that helps .lisa

Hi Lindsay! Long time no watch :( So sorry! Life's been busy busy busy! Thanks for doing this comparison! I so appreciate it. I thought about using the Avery Elle pockets, but I just don't think I have the space right now. My stamps are still stored in binders, except the Stampin' Up ones. I'm thinking of switching to nothing but DVD cases. Again, that takes up a ton of space too. So hard to decide what to do! TFS ~ Hugs ~ Pat :)

I also like the Ellen Hutsen packages. I think they are sold under the Essentials brand. they are thicker than the Avery Elle, and I believe they are the same price or less. Both work well.

Hi Lindsay. I took on board what you said and ordered some Avery Eelle pockets and they are great. They came from the US to me in South West Wales, GB. They are great i am spending an hour now working my way through cases of stamps. Its going to take a while but doing a bit at a time makes it bit less scary. Can you tell me please did you label them with a Label Machine, If so which one please? Need to make a Stamp Scrubber next so will look at the one you made soon. Thank you again. My Avery Elle pockets seem to be holding up well and I also keep dies in magnetic sheets inside them. If you want a sturdy CD -sized pocket for little stamps or tiny dies, Memorex sells good quality CD pockets made of sturdy plastic.

Does anyone know if a Food Saver could be used to 'fuse' larger plastic sleeves to size needed? I have a setting that heats only...like to reseal opened bags.

I get my DVDs holders from super media store online for a super great price and they are exactly the same as the Avery Elle. They also have the smaller cd holders as well! Debbie

Thanks for showing a comparison! Could u technically use a clear plastic protector like you'd put a finished card in? You'd just need to chop of the top adhesive strip. I think those r cheaper.Just a thought. ..

I ordered my storage sleeves from a company on ebay that advertised as being comparable to Avery Elle and I have admit the quality is as good but the flap could be reinforced a bit more. I am happy with them and continue to order my bags from them. You can get 100 for around $15 or 50 for $8. I was able to get size 5x7 and 6x8 but had to go with Avery for my 5x5. The company is super_techmedia and they sell a bit of everything so you have do search to get to them.

Lindsay, quick question....apologize if I missed this, but do you just keep all manufacturers together? If you're looking for like a thank you sentiment, do you just go through all the stamps or keep thank you's together etc?

+Mary J I used to when I did more work for magazines but then I found it easier to keep them by theme as my collection got bigger. I even broke up sets to make my sentiments together etc. I only keep stamps by manufacturer if I am working with them on a sponsorship deal.

Hey Mary...I was pondering the same question as you and I'm finding that organizing by manufacturer is not working out for me. Could you tell me if you've gone ahead and organized your stamps by theme and if so, do you find this "filing system" more efficient? As well, if you now store by theme, any advice on "theme titles"? Unfortunately, the more time I spend on finding a specific stamp, I run the risk of increased pain to the point of walking away. This is extremely frustrating and truly breaks my heart and I'm sure this affects many other older crafters as well. I would really appreciate your thoughts on the above. Thanks Mary

Hi there, I wanted to respond to Nancy, but I'm not sure this is the right spot to do that- Nancy after doing this hobby for many years i realized i was just not using all my stamps, yet I kept buying more (total addiction) and spent all my time looking through my stash and then losing my 'creative bug'. I now store them totally by manufacturer using the bins and cataloging them on my smart phone / computer using a free program called Evernote. I wish I could show you how cool it is, but I learned about this at Splitcoast Stampers. I'd be happy to share more if you'd like, just let me know (-:

Since the CD sleeves rip so easily, see a couple of them together to make larger pouches! Every time you have your sewing machine out, do a dozen or so and soon you'll have lots of big pouches. Most of my stamps are on 4x6 backer sheets so the whole set would get protected.

Lindsay, I have the Avery Elle pockets too and while I love them, the Essentials by Ellen line have almost an identical product but they are much thicker and sturdier. (I bought a couple of stamp sets from EH and they were packaged in their own storage pockets). But, you can buy them separately. Oh, and I'm not affiliated with Ellen Hutson. I've just ordered from the store many times and been happy with what I got. If you want the link to the pockets, just let me know. CamelCamelCamel.com is good for tracking price fluctuation. I'm shocked by how many people shop Amazon regularly and don't know about that site, so I'm mentioning. I watched Jennifer McGuire and thought, wow, nice, everything all the same size. I saw the price of the Avery Elle and figured the original plastic was okay and if it tears, zip lock baggies are just fine. The CD holders are about the same size as the Avery Elle smalls, but not as good of quality, it appears. Don't you hate that? Sometimes we defeat ourselves trying to save a few bucks. I've done it way too many times. Oh well. Thanks for the insomnia entertainment ;-).
