I really hate how difficult it is to remove those dies from their original packaging. I learned (the hard way by bending a die) that if you pass over the back of the sheet with your heat gun and lightly heat that backing, the dies will come off much easier, and no danger bending them.

Nice tutorial. I'm in the process of doing this exactly myself and agree that it's easier to use labels versus a label maker and the time & cost involved to use it. I like how you used the company logos/names on your labels, nice addition to the labels. Also, thanks for showing the vent covers and the size of them, now I'll know what to look for.

I have just started organizing my stamps and dies in the Avery Elle pockets. Instead of the white cardstock, tho, I just cut the stamp backing cardboard sheet down til it fits in the pocket. The name and pictures, etc, is already on it. Then I don't bother with the white cardstock, or a label.

I have resorted to using much thinner strips of the magnet sheets to store my dies. I cut them long enough to touch on both sides, preferably the shortest width across. I just double stick them to a larger card stock or I have given thought to food boxes cut down if I want it sturdier. I am not so concerned that they are all uniform or pretty at the moment as long as they don't get lost and they are in some kind of folder I can stand up and flip through by MFG. I have not decided on the folders to buy. I hear a lot about Avery Elle but so far most of my stamps and dies are just in their original packaging. I have not priced all the options in order to come to a decision. I like the look of the ones you use and both sizes. Thanks for sharing.

You should be able to get two pieces of 5 1/2 x 7 1/4 out of one piece of 8.5 x 11 piece of paper if you will cut your 7 1/2 off the long end of the paper.

A slight time-saving suggestion...when cutting the magnetic sheets (I'll use the 5" cut as an example) you mentioned the sheet was 8'"x 15" rather than line the magnetic sheet at the 5" mark, line it up at the 10" mark cut then slide the magnetic sheet to the 5" mark; then slide it toward the blade lining the end of the magnetic sheet up with the 5" mark for the second cut. Now you have three 5" cuts a tad quicker because you haven't had to reinsert the sheet. If your cutting 4" pieces like you did the first time ...first cut is lined up at the 12" mark; cut; (that piece you just cut is the piece that won't be uniform to the remainder still to cut but as you did it can be used for something else later), then slide down to 8" mark, then to 4" mark. You've then got three 4x4" pieces slightly quicker because you're not having to pick up the longer length of magnetic sheet and pass it through again. I hope this makes sense. Great demonstration with thorough explanations of what you did ...thank you :)

if you cut the 11 inch size first at 5 1/2 the turn and cut the 7 1/4 you would get 2 sheets out of one piece of cardstock and have less waste

I have been slowly moving all of mine over this way also. Just a tip: I am able to get 2 backer sheets from 1 cardstock by cutting it slightly different. I cut my sheet on the long edge down to 7' ( 8.5 down to 7) rotate this to horizontal position and cut it into 5 1/8th then trim that second piece to 5 1/8 th This gives me very little scrap and allows my backer sheet to slide in and out nicely. Your video was fantastic and very informative ! P.S. I also have to add the magnet, I dont like my sm dies floating around in there. Thank you for taking the time to film this !

Might I suggest that I find it important to know how many die pieces are in each set because it's sooOoooO easy to lose the smaller pieces. If the plastic cover for the stamp set is not imprinted with the stamp images, it would also be important to know how many pieces are in that set. Spellbinders new cardboard pocket packaging for their Delights dies has all the important information printed on the front, including a image of the completed project, so all they require is the magnetic sheet. For my other dies, I bought 5" x 8", 2 Mil Clear Zipper Bags, 5 Packs of 100 for $12.98 from Amazon & lined them with transparency inserts & clear labels.

I actually have the magnetic vent covers from Home Depot. I have used them for several months. I love them. They keep my dies in place with no problem. I love how you store your dies with the stamps. What do you do if the dies fit more than one stamp? I thought about adding a note that the dies for this stamp set are stored in "????" stamp set. I am interested in seeing what you do with yours. Love your video. Very clear instructions. Hugs.
@barbaras29609 жыл бұрын
I like your organization for dies. I use something very similar. I realize this video is a few months old, but just a note, if you make your first 7-1/4" cut vertically and then turn horizontally and cut at 5-1/2 , you get two backing sheets out of each piece of paper instead of only 1. You're left with one 1-1/4" strip 11" long.

Hi fellow crafters :) Did you know that some chain convenience stores use magnetic boards to post their special deals ? These are changed regularly as the promotions end and often the magnetic ads are just discarded. Ask the manager at the store and you may be able to pick up large pieces of these magnetic ads for free . They are perfect for storage of metals dies .

Quick question for you...I did all of this organizing and now I'm wondering how easy it is to categorize by manufacturer? I mean if you're looking for a thank you sentiment, then you have to look through all of the stamps, right? Is there another way that you've tried? Do you find this workable?
@dianalovestoplan9 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary! I agree ...it's all what makes you most comfortable. I agree you will have to search more, but when I'm stamping I like to flip threw all my stamps when I need something. I know that sounds crazy, but sometimes there is that small random one on a set that totally gets forgotten that does say Thank You, but is on a camping set you would totally ignore under a label of 'camping/vacation' ...hope that makes sense! 😊
@MaryJohansen9 жыл бұрын
Oh, that makes sense...I'll go with this since it's less work than breaking apart all the sets to arrange them.

Your ideas are absolutely FABULOUS, and I so appreciate all of the details you gave us, so very generous of you to give us all of your ideas. You were very humble too, I have never heard of using magnetic vent covers, that was GREAT!!! I have probably a really dumb question, sorry!!! I'm not the best at all using my computer, and I noticed when you printed out your labels that the one you showed used the same font for the company name "My Favorite Things", how did you do this? Did you scan the title and the company name for each from the packaging on the stamps/dies? Sorry to ask a question that is so elementary. I am putting my stamps and dies in regular-sized binders, but am only partly done, and now cannot find the Martha Stewart clear sheets I was using for these which had flaps on each depending whether the sheet was divided in 2, or was one big sheet, or had more small pockets, so I am looking everywhere to find something similar...I live in Canada, but am a short drive from the US border, so I can always go across for shopping, which is very handy. Thanks again for your FANTASTIC tutorial, I hope I'm going to find tons more of yours, will just check it out. :)

My dies (smaller pockets) go in a decorative metal desk organizer from Staples and my stamps (larger envelopes) go in InterDesigns Fridge Binz 12inch x 15inch divided, from Bed Bath and Beyond. Thanks for watching!!

Great ideas! I've been meaning to try to find those vent covers- I actually saw someone use them in their storage too :) are they light weight? I know magnetic sheets get kind of heavy.. I so need to organize my stamps and dies but it's such a huge task for me ;) I've had the Avery Elle pockets for over a year and only tackled a small portion of my stamps- LOL! Great video! TFS!

The magnetic vent cover are super light weight, not heavy at all, you can even cut them with a regular scissors too. It took me months and months to do all of mine lol. The hard part is keeping up on it. I just gather new stamps and dies till they start getting outta control and then I force myself to sit for an afternoon and just do it.

Oriental Trading Co. had a pack of adhesive backed magnetic sheets - 12 - 8.5 x 11" sheets for $10.50

I will have to try them and see if they are as thick. I also really like the size of the grill covers cuz the cut into perfect pieces on the size I use with no extra. 81/2 x 11 I would have to make the pieces smaller...hmmm thanks for the comment always great to have other options :)

These magnetic sheets come in A4 size from most craft outlets, ebay & Amazon etc. Could work out less expensive.

Couldn't you just use the magnetic sheet without the card stock? It's white on the back...would save paper...
@dianalovestoplan8 жыл бұрын
I only cut the magnetic to the size I need which isn't always the same size of the envelope. Some stamp sets only have a few matching dies and I now just cut a small piece of the magnet for that. The cardstock is from Walmart and a whole reem of over 100 sheets is 5$. I hope that makes sense. All the cardstock makes its less flimsy.
