Avi has one of the most haunting whistle notes I have ever heard... Along with his bass he gets in your ear and shakes your soul.

Avi himself is haunting anyway heehee

Chains and Full Moon are masterpieces. Did I mention I feel this deep in my soul and always weep. My chains are much the same as his.

Avi is as deep in lyrics as he is in his voice, he penetrates the soul

This title scared me when I knew it was coming. I knew it would be dark. Like so many others though I think it would make an amazing soundtrack In an interview he said his producer brought in a drummer to work with them and the guys work is just amazing. Avi was raised around American Indian pow wows and whether or not he intends it that sound comes out clearly to me.

alma petry That was a great Interview. More like a conversation. Pat... if you don’t react to the podcast... at least listen. Avi shares a lot of background. & some tech talk. & the symbolism rocks😆.

.I mentioned it also at the reaction of "Full Moon" ( sorry , I hadn't seen this reaction yet ) and yes, it's really worth listening to !! I'm glad you mentioned it too!

Both beautiful songs he released with the EP. Did you see the video to I'll Get By? It's hard to find on his channel, but you can find it by going to his community tab. Thanks for the reaction!

I love Avi's voice. So deep and rich.... tribal! It's just so raw and natural tones! Love it!

Such a heavy and dramatic song. I love everything he does. Thank you for sharing.

Another amazing song (and reaction)! I'm so excited that I manged to get VIP tickets to see him. It'll be the first non-classical/musical theatre gig I go to (I think), which is just such an awesome way to enter that musical world!
@tanyanguyen37044 жыл бұрын
A mature music theory again, but the bridge is really indicative of his whole album. It rises, the tension is powerful, but it moves into this empowering three chord rise. If he had, musically, left that down, you would have a different sense of “I need some relief. I’m exhauseted. I’m unable to go on.” The three steep rise in chord is more “I’m about to make this change.” Literally, I’m on my knees, but in this very musical phrase I’m standing up. Then he follows that with an added high octave, again, the ready to move forward. I his sons are... yeah....

So cathartic to listen to this ......Avi is so intune with his inner self.....sometimes a scary place to be......He's so 'real' I pray he's also healing himself as he is healing so many

For me personally, the bass drum feels like the monotony of life that can weigh you down. Getting louder (heavier) as you go. I like it in the song, kinda feels like trudging forward regardless.

What a good reaction ! You really go deep into the song and the album .It's such a great feeling to share the love for a person or a group and you are so compassionate about Avi , you are saying the words that I couldn't find. This is another great song and I always love it when there's a whistle in it ! A song right from the heart!

I think the bass drum was actually tympani. They can be tuned and actually produce musical notes in a drumbeat.

This sounds almost like a Native American chant to me... I could just be hearing things, but it has a similarly haunting feel to it.
@sonofeloah4 жыл бұрын
That is the low-end kettle drum beat like what the native peoples use in their music of the pow wow. Check out pow wows here on YT and hear it from their heart.

His songs would be so perfect for a movie. Something like a man who has had a hard time all his life and then gets falsely accused and is struggling to survive in prison until the revaluation of his innocence is brought forth and then vengeance and victory is his in the end. YEs, I can see and feel it in all his songs. Hmmm, maybe I should write a script. Lol

That bass drum was annoying....and perfect. It sounded like the drum on a viking ship that sets the pace for the enslaved rowers to pull their oars. It's an awful, unending, relentless intrusion that rules your life.

He's working with a new drummer and I think they are genius together. Beautiful description by the way.
@supposedly1-24 жыл бұрын
that bass drum didn't make much sense to me it seemed out of place and didn't add anything good to the song at least in the beginning. (former drummer here) i did not have on headphones though so maybe it made sense later in the song. it literally sounds like someone knocked a boulder down a hill hahahaha Avi sounds good though as always.

soundvapors.com/interview-avi-kaplan/ This is a great interview. He talks about his process and about the drummer. I thought since you are a drummer you might be interested.

I like your description of knocking a boulder down a hill. This whole Ep is giving me a picture of Sysuphus pushing a boulder up a hill and it rolling back down again. I'd argue that in a way Avi is sharing his own ''boulder'' with us
@janetranslates4 жыл бұрын
Since you're a drummer, maybe you can answer this: was it a bass drum or was it tympani [aka "kettle drums"]? It sounded tuned--and there were at least two different notes. I was going to pay attention but got caught up in the song.
