@meuboui
@meuboui 6 жыл бұрын
Actually, they call it Tuvan "throat" singing, however the specificity of this sound doesn't come from the throat but the shape you give to your mouth. More precisely you change the volume of your mouth cavity by moving your tongue forward and backword, and it works as a filter. Since a single note sung with your voice is a combination of several frequencies, your tongue can help amplifying one frequency (or maybe lower the others, i don't remember). Check that video, it is well explained: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3m3d2Rjfs2oeZI

There are KZbin how-to videos; search on "Sygyt overtone singing." That said, my music teacher told me never to try Tuvan throat singing (of which this is one variety), that it would ruin my voice. That may be because I'm a contralto; it certainly doesn't seem to have hurt Avi.

I was at this show. I was worried no recording would pick up the sound of both pitches, but this turned out great. Thanks for posting! We gave him such a big standing ovation after this one. This and Kevin's cello beatbox solo were two of the major highlights of the night, for sure.

***** Yeah, he started off key, and wasn't even following the melody at the beginning, then he kinda went into it correctly for like 5 seconds, and then he was all over the place....he clearly doesn't have control over his throat singing cause it's just something he learned to create effects....Kaplan is NOT a professional throat singer people, hear some real throat singing and Kaplan will look like a dork...he still has very beautiful overtones, it's impossible for anyone NOT to when they know how to make it pitch perfect (which he does) but when it comes to actually using the voice as an instrument, he hits more wrong notes than right, and he gets lost in the melody and the rhythm too easily, so it shows his lack of dedication.
@xxxslayerxxx666
@xxxslayerxxx666 10 жыл бұрын
no, will, you need to get some perspective because this isn't some miraculous impossible tone to create, it really is easier than singing. (but it can be harder in some aspects.) I'm sorry that the truth hurts you fanboys, but he didn't do throat singing any justice at all, and he was off key, and he wasn't following the melody at all in the beginning, and then he went back to being off key on the last half, he was only in key for like barely 10 seconds....I know what I'm talking about because there's no instrument that I can't make sound amazing, plus I throat sing....if you were musically inclined even just a bit, you'd be hearing what I'm hearing, it's great, but it's pathetic to perform this when 90% of the notes were wrong....he has nice tone and nice control, but this performance shows he lacks the focus and practice to be able to perform this how it should've been performed....he's definitely NOT a professional throat singer at all, he just knows how to make those sounds that are so rare to hear nowadays, show this to Asians that are used to hearing these sounds and they will not be impressed at all by this.
@DarrenBaileyActor

John Follmer This isn't a Tuvan throat singing competition. It's a young a cappella group who is presenting the idea of overtone singing in a concert and to an audience that wouldn't typically expect to hear it. This isn't the place for self promotion, John, especially when it's to downplay someone else's hard work. You also get further with compliments or keeping your opinions to yourself when marketing yourself than by hating on what others do. You are talented, but that's no reason to be negative. So, good luck to you in your musical adventures. I wish you lots of success.

I've always been fascinated by Mongolian throat singing, but I've never seen a westerner do it with such precision. it's an easy enough technique to DO,I can produce a reasonable double tone, but controlling it to that extent takes some skill. I've always liked Avis singing but this is something else....very talented young man.

@@that.neurodivergentyeah I lived in Seattle for 5 years and everything about the surrounding area is just beautiful.... Except for the totalitarian Marxist government but hey what can you do? 😅 The people are amazing (just avoid cap hill). But for real, Washington is probably one of the most gorgeous states in America. Where else can you drive from a coastal cliff straddled by a rain forest over breathtaking mountains and end up in the desert in half a day? I just wish the radical post modernists, elitist yuppie hipsters and light twirling edm k zombies didn't ruin it... I've been saying it for decades, psychedelics being illegal is so dangerous. When people delve into the depths of conciousness without guide, purpose or intention they end up fried and listless. And even worse they end up abusing sacred entheogens that have therapeutic benifits and have been used safely for thousands of years. The amount of people I know who do ketamine every day, rip dmt carts like it's a vape pen or eat mushrooms any chance they get without gaining anything from them is disgusting and makes those of us who advocate for, research or study them look foolish. Thankfully this ebb is flowing and we are getting back to reality culturally, and people are taking more seriously psychedelics immense benifit. Especially with end of life, ptsd and addiction. Yeah I need to stop myself, I'm rambling rather incoherently about something completely unrelated to the video I just watched and comment I responded to. I can go on about this topic for hours and have done so with much more clarity than I was just doing so imma stop and wish whoever read that a happy Tuesday ❤😅❤

Extraordinary performance. Combined two difficult skills together: circular breathing (in which he took in more air to keep going without having to stop) and singing a low drone with high-pitched harmonics that he somehow controlled sufficiently to produce a discernible melody. I have never heard of both these things being done together before. Players of wind instruments use the former technique to play long pieces where the score does not give them time to breathe. The other technique is often employed by the players of electronic instruments. This is very clever work for a singer.

Hey there, I just wanted to mention that I started trying this out as soon as it came out in 2014. It’s 2020 now, and I only just started being able to consistently make the overtones loud enough to hear clearly. This only reinforces my belief that this man is secretly an alien with more talent than any one person could reasonably hope for. Much love and respect, sequoia man!🤩

Honestly, no shade, but I don't think Kirstie or Scott would've survived in the music industry on their own. Mitch has the vocal control of a goddess and even w/o singing could still survive w/ his EDM. Kevin would've been a doctor by now. And Avi I don't really know. There's a possibly that Kirstie would go back to choir and Scott could maybe get a record deal if he'd played his cards well. Anyways they need all parts of the band to stay fully functioning and that's good, because I don't want any of them to leave PTX. :)

If there is an "ever after" if PTX disbanded (perish the thought but after all nothing is forever). You are pretty on point about the "after lives" of all the members except Avi. Think about him, especially (b/c I think he is the most diverse and unique member of the group - he'd most likely find a place back to where it all began - his choral background), but I'd like you to share your thoughts.
