Thank you, I love Avis voice, it is like velvet. Can't remember the origin of this song, but is around 100 years old. I love Pentatonix together, they are amazing, but also love to listen to them separately, can't say that about a lot of other bands. Peter Hollens is also good, he does a lot of older ballads and if you like LOTR or Hobbit movies he sings the songs on there sound tracks. Have a wonderful day.

It is a Scottish folk song brought over to the Appalachian area by the Scottish settlers back in the day so older than 100 years.

Peter Hollens is the king of the a cappella over-dub. He does a huge variety of stuff, so there's something for everyone. I highly recommend checking out his channel. It's great reaction fuel. On a similar note: ONE Avi Kaplan is amazing. Multiple Avis singing in harmony is more than my poor soul can handle! *dies*

This is the most beautiful version of the song I've heard, and I used to hear the song a lot. It's an old, traditional folk song, from the Apalachians, but via Scotland, probably. It's sung by many Celtic singers. These two voices are just perfect for it. The pace would be too slow if it were a bit faster, but is perfect slowed down even more. I know that sounds like a paradox, but it is the only way I could explain it.

When Avi gets to "When she and I", the look on your face just destroyed me. ROFL!!! So many reactors get artificial - thinking they have to be over-the-top in order to entertain. You just watch the videos and your reactions are totally genuine.

I love this guy's reaction when he hears Avi's voice drop. You can almost feel the weight of the notes he sings. LOVE IT!

+Rob Reactor Haha, it's why I (and others) suggested it of course! :) It's nigh impossible for someone to listen to that part with headphones on and not have a visceral reaction. So good.

Peter usually sings all the parts which could be anywhere from 2 - 15 parts!! Avi is incredible!!

'Black is the color (of my true love's hair) was first sung in the Appalachian Mountains around 1915...with roots going back to SCOTLAND.

I would highly recommend watching more Peter Hollens. He has a plethora of songs you can react to where it's just him, where he sings with his wife, where he sings with guests, and where he sings with fans/patrons.

Nina did perform a version of this old Scottish ballad, but it made it's way to America with Scottish immigrants to the Appalachian Mountains. We know this because some of the verses (not sung here) reference Scotland geographic landmarks. Past musicologists have performed various versions of this song, Nina being the most famous, but Avi and Peter have done the tune justice...and then some. Thanks for reacting to these two and make sure you look up Peter's channel.

I heard Pete Seeger and also Joan Baez sing this many years ago. I will have to look up the Nina Simone version.

Thanks for your wonderful reaction. Avi loves folk music, and he and Peter have created something very special here. You think Avi has hit his low note, and then he goes down 3 more flights. It's interesting that on some reactors' channels I can hear the base tones very clearly (yours is one of those), but on others the bass sounds muted, even with headphones. Anyway, still hoping for "PTX - Somebody That I Used to Know"!

Well, since you've seen the Hollens collab with Avi, now you can check out the one he did with Scott. It was done in 2012 so it's back shortly after Pentatonix was brand new. "Chris Brown - Turn Up The Music - Peter Hollens feat. Scott Hoying" kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIWxmWSvo5KkqNU

@UserHorologium7 жыл бұрын
You apparently pulled the video from Avi's page right before he cleared it out in preparation of his solo album next month. (I looked for it yesterday (May 6th) and it wasn't there.) This is a very old Appalachian folk song, with its roots likely in Scotland. I remember one of my classmates choosing it as a song to perform as a solo at the regional preliminary for the state choral festival back when I was in high school 30+ years ago. (His performance was nowhere near as good; he didn't score even close to high enough to progress to the state level.) I disliked the song for over thirty years as a result of that introduction, but Avi and Peter made me a fan of at least their version.

This is everything wrong with KZbin; sits stone-faced watching video, makes no comment or critique. Not transformative of the original work in any way. Channels like this should be _dmca’ed_ to oblivion...
@codymarrott57204 жыл бұрын
He's not stone faced so idk what ur talking about, he's mesmerized by the music leave him be, asshole.
