You can also blow torch heat the copper crush washers on a piece of steel wire then drop them in a cup of water. The instant cooling removes any corrosion and returns them back to their copper color and soft state.

Thats the way I've always done it with no problems...however, Champion recommends you replace with new ones.... makes sense... why reuse the perfectly good annealed ones when you 'should' buy 'new' ones... Yeah... I think I'll stick with annealing

The best way to service Champion plugs is to throw them in the trash.

While heating up copper gaskets to cherry red and dropping them into water will remove contaminants and return then to a soft state. This will not return them to their original thickness. When spark plugs are manufactured they take into account the thickness of a new copper gasket, when you use gaskets that have been previously "Crushed" the plug actually sticks into the cylinder further than it is intended to. Is it really worth 5 cents (what a new copper crush gasket costs) to re-use gaskets, just replace them and go on down the road.
