Nice video. I took a cat 1 when I started flying, just in case I wanted to go commercial. I was surprised how simple it was. I had no idea if I had passed until TC sent me the medical certificate about 7 weeks later. I have a dodgy heart valve and I was fine, which was relief.

Just went to my medical cat 2 Check for my PPL. during the ECG check (heart rhythm) the doctor realized that there's an anomaly in my reading. We did it a second time and it showed the same results. I got told now to do a more in-depth long term ECG as well as an ultrasonic check of my heart at a cardialogist to determine what is going on. Being 29 yes old obviously this news was crushing to me, meaning both my private pilot aswell as commercial career is endangered, not even thinking about my overall health... I wanted to share this to let everybody know, that even with such inconvenient news, always keep your heads and hopes up. All the best, Phil

I’ve recently been panicking because of this ringing in my ears but I was really just making it worse by panicking and I’m not going deaf. I just had a cold and an ear infection. How crazy, I was almost crying thinking I’ll never pass that medical check. However a piece of advice I have, specifically for the hearing test, it’s actually not that intense or strict as you may think. My older brother is an airline pilot and I kid you not he is the person who does the most “huh???”s on the phone and when I try to talk to him from a distance. Yet he passes his medical every time. Moral of the story: don’t be scared.
@AviatorInspirations
@AviatorInspirations Жыл бұрын
Yes the civilian medical isn’t that bad, compared to the military for example. They do a very in-depth test. Some overseas airlines also do a thorough medical test before hiring you, but that’s not related to your aviation medical and pilots license.
@aspiringcaptain
@aspiringcaptain Жыл бұрын
@@AviatorInspirations yes I heard so. The threshold for hearing is no more than 35dB at frequencies of 500, 1000, 2000, 5000Hz. I have no idea if I could pass it though since it’s for both ears but I have no aspirations of becoming a military pilot so I guess I’m alright 😅
@AviatorInspirations
@AviatorInspirations Жыл бұрын
Haha always best to test for piece of mind. As well, having a baseline for future testing will tell you if it’s getting worse or not. Also using a noise cancelling headset will save your hearing while flying.

Hello Great video, I'm a struture mechanic at Fokker but decided for a career change (or better follow the dream that i had as a child but i forget at the young age for festivals and party's.... funny but those times have gone and i haven't gone into piloting that was my child dream) but now I decided that is now or never. My game-plan is PPL and possibly evolve to CPL and have a place into comercial (not airliners per se). I have a few questions to ask since im planning on start my PPL now with 37yo and also since i live in NL i have sometimes smoked cannabis. That would rely the exam as failed? My last joint was 3 weeks ago and I was trying to calculate a good day to the appointment so that "issue" become a "non issue". Obviouly I know that i will have to stay away of any canabis at all to follow my dream! Dont crack on my head to experimenting something 😔 How do you see it? Could you advice me?

Depends how old he is and whether he develops any other conditions because of it. Being a big guy isn’t an issue, but high blood pressure/diabetes could quickly end his career. Perhaps a visit to an aviation doctor would answer some questions, and maybe it could motive him to change to a healthier lifestyle if he wants to become a pilot.

In case you didn't get an answer yet - 3rd Class Medical Exam is needed to be a Private Pilot and it is good for 5 years if you're under 40, 2 years if you're over 40. A 1st Class Medical is needed to be an ATP (flying the big boys), and it is good for 12 months if you're under 40, and 6 months if over 40. Yes you have your glasses on if you can’t see, and that limitation will be put on your license “glasses required”. No max prescription, as long as it’s corrected to 20/30, and you don’t have any other eye issues. But, the best way to know is to go get your Cat1 Medical👍🏻

For a category 3 medical I don’t think so, but for a Cat1 medical I think you still need to do one for the very first medical, but double check with an aviation doctor as it’s not very consistent between doctors. Either way, it’s not a bad test to do just so you know where your hearing is. Also I recommend a noise cancelling headset for flying if you want to preserve your hearing.

Hi, I have a question regarding eyesight aspect. Firstly, I thought it was 20/20 vision not 20/30. Secondly, if I have myopia on one eye of slightly over -6 (it is -6.25) and my left eye is at -5 would this right eye mean I fail medical? With my glasses I can perfectly read 20/20. I am unsure if this would be an issue because as far as I am aware their are pilots who have passed medical with just one eye. I would really appreciate any information you have on this. Thanks

If you have no symptoms and have figured out the root cause, then there shouldn’t be an issue getting your medical. The doctor will ask for history, and they will determine if further testing is necessary. It’s a small fee to pay to get some answers and get doubts put to rest, so I would still recommend getting your Cat1 medical and go from there.

You can wear glasses as a pilot, and lasik isn’t necessary unless your eye sight is really bad. If you do lasik, it takes 3-6months I believe until your eyes heal. Perhaps a consultation with an aviation doctor who knows all the rules would be helpful.

@AviatorInspirations

If you are considering this profession, I would get a Cat1 medical now, so you know there is nothing preventing you from becoming a pilot. Once the Cat1 medical lapses, it goes down to a cat3 medical, which is good for 5yrs, so you don’t have to renew your Cat1 medical until doing your commercial license.

Don’t stress too much about it, as sometimes the anxiety from it makes things worse. Maybe the colour of the video is making it not clear to see, so just wait until your appointment and then you can discuss any issues with the doctor. Many pilots fail flight tests because of anxiety too, so it’s important not to stress about things that have not yet happened.
