Finally getting around to uploading the OTHER Elden Ring song! This appeared last year on Modern Mythology after I had finished Elden Ring wound up completing the game for the first time by the side of Ranni The Witch, conquering for the glory of a cold dark moon. Ranni's story unravels slowly and subtly, most of it completely unseen to me the first time I looted an item off of her sacrificed body or heard her voice call to protect her own mother. She's a reluctant goddess, a powerful being who pulled strings across thousands of years to undermine her father's godhood, and yet still a lost child in search of friends to watch the end of the world as she knows it. This song hopes to capture a piece of her bittersweet story throughout the course of Elden Ring.
Lyrics:
Where life as an unwilling angel starts
I end
Forgive my intrusion but grace is won
With friends
I'll upturn the roots that withhold this
Shattered place
In cold absolution I carve
My unbound face
Mother have you lost your way
The skies are crumbling as I pray
Shine moonlight from where you are
To guide me by the falling stars
Through golden oblivion I have held
So far
And died for traversal beyond the place
We are
I've cut the soul out of my chest to
Heal this land
I'll sever the fingers to let go of
These hands
Mother have you lost your way
The skies are crumbling as I pray
Shine moonlight from where you are
To guide me by the falling stars
My father's blood boils in my veins
For I have forsaken our name
To tarnish the glow of his golden order
Forgive me for what I have done
The catalyst I have become
To birth a dark moon as these lands grow colder
Mother have you lost your way
The skies are crumbling as I pray
Shine moonlight from where you are
To guide me by the falling stars

Some (as light on spoilers as possible, trying to avoid what wasn't mentioned in the song already) context for those who haven't played: The Golden Order is a group arguably led by Queen Marika / Radagon. Though who actually pulls the strings are outer gods. Or something they call gods, though they are more like eldritch conquerors. The Carian family was opposing the golden order initially and couldn't be stopped by forceful attempts from the Golden Order, so by Radagon marrying Renala (the woman here 1:39) they achieved some semblance of peace. But because the scheming never ends, Radagon left Renala, causing Renala to lock herself away inside of the Raya Lucaria Academy. There is still a statue of him inside of the library (as seen here 0:24). The song is from the perspective of Ranni (5:04), the daughter of Renala and Radagon. She was supposed to be one of the empyrians, so candidates to take the throne when the time comes. Though Ranni didn't agree with the doctrine of the golden order. Abandoned her flesh (3:02), pulled a coup which brings us to the present state of affairs where the game starts off. There is more detail to it but I think that's the gist of it.

LORE SPOILERS. I think it's also super sad that Rennala named her after herself, Renna, but after her attempt to bring herself true death and failing, Renna takes the name Ranni, maybe leaning more to to Radagon side, like Radon. But she clearly still loves her mother and doesn't want to let go, because she still introduces herself as Renna the first time you meet her, and apologizes later for giving you that name. She also still uses Rennala's magic as the basis of her own magic, with the spell description saying something along the lines of "her cold, dark moon", in contrast to Rennala's "full moon". And she continues the marriage tradition of her mother, granting you her sword when you swear yourself to her. Just like her mother gave to Radagon before. She still loves her mother so much.

@@chrismanuel9768 Renna the snow witch was Ranni's mentor not Ranni she only uses the name in the first part of the game to stay hidden also the Dark moon is a Outer God as opposed to the full moon which is seemingly just the moon but might be another Outer God

Your not wrong about loving her mother given Rennala's second phase is an illusion crafted by Ranni and also why shes the only boss we don't kill since we kill the illusion instead

One bit of headcanon I have is that all three of their children were pretty much shaped by whose side they took when their parents broke up. Radahn focused on the stars, since the graven school was the Academy's greatest shame and he needed an excuse to blame Rennala. Ranni similarly focused on the evil of the Golden Order to justify blaming Radagon (which was closer to the truth, but arguably by coincidence). Rykard talks a big game about wanting to upend the golden order, but what he really wants is for the Serpent to consume Rennala and Radagon so that they can be together again.

I will never forget how I got goosebumps when I first heard this track at the premiere stream. I was at my long distance partner's house at the time and good lord, this song was pretty much the soundtrack of that trip. The whole album held up too but Falling Stars continues to absolutely stun me every single time. It has made it up there with my very favourite of tracks. I absolutely adore this song and it makes me think of my precious boyfriend and that particular visit. This being the first Aviators upload of 2023 is so fitting seeing as this year I will be moving in with my boyfriend. God, thank you Aviators. ❤️

Are the lyrics actually good though? They don't really make sense in a literal sense, or in any sense that relates to Elden Ring. Until the breakdown, they just kind of take words from the game and organize them in a way that rhymes, but doesn't really correlate with anything in the lore or story of Elden Ring. The breakdown actually relates to the game though, I liked that part.
@Andybananas

@@bigwinz most of the time, lyrics in music isnt supposed to sound like someones explaining anything. usually you have to connect it yourself, and aviators has a rule where he can pretty much never use direct references. all his songs that are based after games/tv are written in a way where people who recognize what its based after can understand it and people who dont can still like the song without being confused.
