Thanks Charles... I really appreciated your knowledge of blossom pollination on the video you uploaded. I watched it all the way through. Now when I set up my next mini-orchard I'll plant both types of trees A & B. Have a blessed day!

And now there are hundreds of fruit starting to set on both of these trees! I'll do an update video in a couple months after these trees finish setting their fruit.

Hi, what fertiliser do you use on them, how much and how often. I have two grafted avocado trees in pots (I have a small backyard). They are Bacon and Wurtz varieties (A & B). They are a year old and I had not blossoms last year. If you could give me any care information I would appreciate it. Thanks Carol Australia.

Carol Ann, I really don't use fertilizer on my trees. Which tells me something... My trees loved all the rain they got last winter here in So Cal & there is more than enough nutrients already in the soil for them to produce blossoms & fruit like crazy, but only if they get enough water to metabolize those nutrients efficiently. Your biggest challenge is keeping enough moisture in those pots that your trees are planted in, & due to greater hydration challenges of being in pots, your trees will also be more prone to shock if they get over fertilized, because there is less available water in pots for the trees to use to metabolize nutrients than they would have if they we're planted in the ground & mulched. Pots dry out quickly whereas the ground holds water better, especially if mulched. Does that make sense?

Ariel Cortez you will typically lose about 90% of the blossoms on your tree. Since most healthy trees bloom into the thousands or tens of thousands, this is actually a good thing, because not even a healthy tree can support that many fruit. Just relax. You'll see the fruit starting to set after about 3/4 of you blossoms have fallen. As long as your tree is just as healthy as it was when it went into bloom, you should see fruit set into the hundreds, but it sets towards the end of the bloom cycle. This provides ample pollen for other trees in the neighborhood as well as your own trees. Just remember, the fruit sets at the end of the bloom cycle, not at the beginning nor in the middle. Hope that helps you relax a bit for the next couple months until you see those little green peas popping out all over your tree. Blessings!

How's that tree today? My Hass looked the same, but I've had 2falls this season, first fall I lost about 1000, and fall2 I just lost half of that. I might have a few dozen again. What am I missing.

Oscar Meyer is the tree mature enough to sustain such enthusiasm?

my avo must be at least 15 years old. the truck a some branches do not look well. though there are many blossoms and healthy areas. Tree is in So CA as well. In the Long Beach area. It has Not been consistently watered however. At times the soil may have been soaked for too long. I am probably late to the game here as I should have been attentive earlier on. I think it may have root rot? and maybe because the soil is compacted, hard and poor drainage? What would you suggest the first step be? Tree is tall with out a trim in maybe 4 years. About 25 feet in height. Dropping leafs now, March 2018. Brown leafs and Yellowing leafs dropping. :( Thanks for reading!

Kat4Animals00 which is most likely? Root rot or dehydration? Although these trees can be vulnerable to root rot more than other fruit trees, they are far more vulnerable to dehydration. Remember, avocado trees are tropical fruit trees. They thrive best under tropical conditions in porus soil. So you can believe whoever you like or you can try consistent heavy watering first & see how your tree responds. It is more likely suffering from dehydration than from root rot. What do you have to lose? If you see improvement in overall health over the next month or so, keep up the abundant watering. If you see things worsen, then stop watering & let the soil dry out a bit. You have to learn what dehydration & root rot symptoms look like sooner or later. Otherwise you will always be at the mercy of others. But I can tell you from experience that dehydration is far more common than root rot & has killed many more trees than root rot under typical conditions.

Duster Dan hide an! Thank you so much for your reply. So much valuable information you The tree has definitely not been consistently watered. And as it's been colder and off and on Rainey at times it was definitely just neglected sorry to say. A neighbor of ours for some reason she said she never water is her off akado tree and I do not have a green thumb. However I hope I'm not too late to get this tree back in health. If you have the time to reply again... How much water would you suggest at each watering session? What frequency per week? Or maybe two times a day? I believe you're in the Riverside area so our climate is about the same (your area would most likely be a bit warmer.) We are in Lakewood right next to Long Beach. Thank you so much for your time. I have the water on now Although the temperature outside is below 60 I suppose it still okay to water just not sure how much per session.

Kat4Animals00 Water 2 or 3 times a week this time of year for 20-30 minutes once day should see a health improvement in your tree. I build a small moat about 5' diameter around the base of my trees to hold about 30 gallons of water & simply fill the moat & then turn the water off. I do this once a week in winter (without rain), 2 or 3 times a week spring & fall & every day in summer. Whenever it rains in winter I'll skip watering. But if you get rain in spring & fall it simply won't be sufficient volume to sustain your tree without supplemental watering unless you receive torrential downpours during that time period. Most rain storms deliver less than an inch of rain & you want you tree to receive 4-6 inches of water per week in spring & fall. If you are worried about over watering, wait until you see measurable improvement from more watering & then cut back the total amount of water volume your tree receives weekly until you begin seeing dehydration signs in the leaf tips again (brown/dead leaf tips) & then increase the watering volume again until you see the tips of the leaves stop browning again. Brown leaf tips are the first sign of avocado tree dehydration. Sunburnt young branches are the second sign of dehydration...
